Wouldnt go back. Soul De Cuba--a few doors down--has excellent cocktails and delicious food. Youll have the experience you expect when you take the time to go to a restaurant and pay professionals to prepare your food and drink. Ive been to Geronimos a handful of times in the past few years. Previously, their food was pretty good and their cocktails were excellent. It had been a while prior to tonight and things have gone downhill. The Fig and Chorizo Frybread used to be a solid choice. Now the figs are tiny, few and undetectable on the palate. The "chorizo" appeared to be some sort of mashed pork product (at least it was spiced) and their was a healthy topping, strangely enough, of shredded romaine lettuce. I joked to my dinner companions that a Taco Bell mexican pizza would have had a more appetizing presentation. Funny because it was true. The Quinoa Relleno, also a former solid choice, was firm--too firm--for another reason entirely. The black beans lining the dish ranged from rawish to cooked-just-enough-to-be-palatable. When I order beans in a restaurant--call me crazy--I expect them to be cooked. I can pop open a can of beans and microwave them for an insufficient amount of time at home. I handed my dish back to a food runner and told him the beans were undercooked. A while later, our server appeared and handed back the same dish with the explanation that "thats how their cooked." The hostess/manager [?] approached and repeated this, chiming in, "They could cook them more but that would take longer." Blunt and honest. No where to go from there, so I handed it back one final time and had the dish taken off the bill. [A side note: Soul De Cuba has amazing beans. Beans that simmer in a pot all afternoon--or longer--becoming delicious just for you to eat them. You could make a delicious meal out of their rice and beans alone.] My cocktail claimed to have four ingredients, one of which was ginger beer. This seemed to be absent. The three that were present were rum, mango juice and ice (ingredients listed by quantity from least to greatest).

I was wandering around this part of town looking for dinner while here on a business trip. The menu looked interesting, so I gave it a try. Everything was great. I had a vegetarian meal, the chile relleno w/ quinoa, black beans, yucca fries. Good flavors, and very quick service (although the woman who brings out the plates of food could make a bit of effort on the hospitality side!). My server Aidan was terrific; he gave great suggestions and was also frank about the dishes he did not recommend. Sounds like others have not had the best meal here, but I will definitely go back when Im in town. One warning: if you are looking for a quiet place to have a conversation, this isnt it. It was noisy, both inside and out.

My husband and I stopped in here on valentines night to get a drink. The drinks were great. I asked the bartender for the tab. He looks at us and says "16.50". He didnt give us any type of ticket showing the cost of the drinks. My husband was about to pay cash when I said "wait". I handed the bartender my credit card. He looked frustrated, walked over to the computer, and THEN put our drinks in to see how much they REALLY cost. He walked back over with a credit card receipt showing $12.10 and still no ticket showing me the cost. I paid it and left. To say the least, dont trust the bartenders. They are crooked. (at least the tall white middle aged male one)

Experience was so-so. I went on birthday expecting nice atmosphere and flavorful food. The wait first for a hostess or host to assist us was long even though we were the only people waiting at first. The tables were crowded next to each other and we got seated in the middle of three large groups and as a result we requested to be moved outside on the patio (which is kept very nicely warmed). I ordered the braised short rib which wasnt that flavorful, but the mashed potatoes were delicious! Also, there is no complimentary chips or bread, you must pay for that. The prices were also a little high for a bit of a limited experience.

NEVER GOING BACK HERE. They charged me 12 dollars for a strawberry margarita. There was no strawberry taste it was just lime and low quality tequila. I asked the bartender to add more strawberry because it was too strong to even drink, and all he did was shake it with some ice. I ended up not finishing it. Then my friend and I ordered the chips and guac appetiser and split the bill. Well, I just looked at my bank statement and they charged me 45 DOLLARS FOR THE CHIPS AND GUAC. Ridiculous! Now I have to see if I can dispute the charge, which I probably cant... I do not recommend this place AT ALL.

I was really disappointed when we finally tried this place. At 1st, it seemed good - attentive service and good bread basket w/ flavored butter. But thats when there were 2 tables in the place total. It was all downhill from there. Food does not live up to its pretensions - at all. It was just blah. The tamales were gritty and boring, and the salsa with them seemed canned. As soon as the place started to get a little busy, and maybe once he saw we werent drinking and spending enough money, our waiter basically checked out and ignored us. Very lame. This place will be out of business in a year.

First time here, Ive heard a lot about Geronimo, and finally made the trip with some friends. Overall, a great experience. The cocktails (margaritas, obviously) were fantastic. The guacamole, offered instantly to us upon sitting down, was amazing. The chips were crunchy and hearty. Better than most chips that go with guac. We ordered pork carnitas and Buffalo Nickels for three people, and it was a good amount of food without overeating, which is so easy these days. A great experience, a knowledgeable waiter, and delicious food/drinks will ensure we go back again soon.

My girlfriend works close by so we meet often at Geronimo. The table side Guac is the best around and the Blood Orange Margarita is great. Any of the drinks they make with the jalapeno infused tequila are great. I have tasted most of the appetizers and a few of the entrees and can honestly say I have never been disappointed. The fish is always great and the apps are always wonderful. Im still waiting to try the Mac N Cheese, I feel like it should be saved as a treat. The wait staff is fast, friendly and knowledgeable. I will definately be going back again.

On a nice day, the atmosphere cant be beat (their covered terrace overlooks Crown). However, the service is slow from the get-go (& they seem confounded when people actually show up). MANAGEMENT RETRAINING; top-down. Food is OK (Mexican fusion); nothing special. Lastly, theres a tip-cup on the table of the guy making fresh guacamole at your table. I think that shows bad taste for a restaurant trying to draw upscale New Haven. Sorry if that sounds elitist; but youre already paying $15 for the guac & chips - come on guys...thats a little short-sighted.

Fantastic place to go if you love tequila and mexican food. My fiance LOVES their blood orange spicy margarita which has a big kick to it. Great variety of mixed drinks to choose from. Only downside is it can get packed during the weekend, very hard to find a place to sit or stand at times. Wish they would open up the downstairs portion during these times... still a great place to stop for a drink in downtown New Haven though. Just a short walk to other great bars/restaurants on the street (BAR, Cask Republic).
