Walking in to the J restaurant, I thought I was extremely under dressed, as was my friend who came with me. We sat down and complimented the atmosphere and how nice of a restaurant it was. When we got the menus, we werent shocked with the high prices because the surroundings told you that at the get go. We ordered two different chicken meals and we were brought bread while we waited. The bread was the beginning of the bad experience. We looked at it and said, "hey, it cant be that bad." When we took a bite, it tasted old and dry. At the same time we found ourselves looking into the bread basket to see if there was dipping sauce or butter or anything to make it better. We laughed when we saw nothing, but shrugged it off. When our meals came, my friend laughed again at how little he got on his plate. The waitress even said, "You can share with her if you dont have enough." Still alright with the place, we ate our food. The sauce tasted like spaghettios from a can and the chicken was very, very over cooked. The only reason he didnt finish his small amount is because he lost his appetite trying to eat it. When the check came, the waitress put it very close to me and looked at me and said have a nice night. We could only assume that because I was better dressed she thought I was paying. Well, when we left we took the matchbooks in a basket for customers, thinking we might as well get something out of this place. I read in another review before this that the McDonalds down the street is a better bet and this is funny because thats exactly what we said as we drove by it on our way out.

I wont be going back, we had a party of 8 ,we called for reservations told them we didnt have alot of time. When 4 of us arrived I specifically told REBECCA we only have an hour to place our order before the others arrived. They happen to arrive right then so she took their order which was fine. Now when she arrives with food for them I asked her if she placed our order and she said well they ordered appetizers" now she places our order most were burgers at 5:52 she said our order will be our in 3 minutes at 6:00 I went up to her and said if the food isnt at our table by 6 we are leaving. We work at the Bushnell and we cannot be late!! And you would think a good waitress would have brought our checks with the meal, but she didnt, we had to ask for them needless to say we scoffed down our food didnt get out til 6:20 and had to race to work. I definitely would not have given her 18% nor would anyone else! her attitude wasnt great either.Its not my first bad experience at Js so therfore not sure if I will return

I was quite surprised by how nice this hidden gem of a "like new York" style high end restaurant was. The staff was quite pleasant and the food...Oh my...The food was delicious. And you must try the "j Tini" their signature Martini. As a frequent winer and diner, I strongly recommend this place to anyone. Whether your hustling million dollar deals at a dinner table to out of town investors. Or your on a fancy dinner date trying impress Paris Hilton. This is your destination, folks!

I used to live on the street next to J Restaurant. And back then it was called Pizza Plus. It was awesome! Me and my mother used to go there. They had the best gyros, great pasta and superb pizza. I was sad to see the place go but the son took over the establishment and changed it to J Restaurant. I went here once it it was really good. I miss that they dont serve gyros no more. This place is good but not as good as the ol Pizza Plus once was.

Always great food and service. Discovered this gem sometime around 2002. The food has always been flavorful and fresh. The staff are friendly, polite and caring. Although the menu has seen some changes I always find satisfaction in the menu. I love the laid back feeling and clean atmosphere. The management and staff clearly have a solid understanding of quality customer service and food.

I called for an order of crab cakes and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. So, I stopped in to pick up my food. GUESS WHAT? After waiting 15 minutes, I asked to check the status of my order. The dummy came back to tell me they didnt have an order for crab ckes. So, I must have talked to a phantom!@ So, pist! I cant stand those idiots. Im calling the manager !!!

The menu offerings, pricing and food preparation are wonderful: our meals were superb. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Whats most remarkable about this restaurant is its staff, though - and from what Ive written above, thats saying something! From the greeter to the "seater," from the waiter to the busboy - each employee was genuinely friendly, and genuinely cared...

My first time dining at J Restaurant this month and I will be back! We started with the Crab Cake (highly recommended) and Coconut Shrimp appetizers and split a J salad (enough for two). For dinner I had the Filet Mignon with Sea Scallops- cooked perfectly and delicious! Nice choice of wines. Excellent, friendly service and ample parking.

Food was wonderful; love the type of foccacia bread (thin rather than thick, but flavorful). Service was a bit slow; waitress forgot to bring a refill of water. Lovely seating outdoors. You can buy the OUT OF THIS WORLD homemade dressing (garlic, lemon vinegarette), but it comes with no label for people with allergies.

Owner was very rude when I was placing a large catering order. Would not recommend. Food was mediocre and cold when it arrived. There are better Hartford restaurants that will treat you with respect and enjoy having your business!

As you walk into the restaurant, the atmosphere is pleasant enough and the staff is friendly, too. But the food was unfortunately mediocre at best. The lettuce did not seem fresh enough and the dressing was rather bland.

The Taste of Hartford menu options were all quality meals at a a great price. Our party of five all enjoyed the appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We have never been disappointed by our meals at J Restaurant and Bar!

3.5 stars because of the tough neighborhood that it is in. We sat outside and all we could hear were car stereos blasting from the car wash next door. Food was good not great, cocktails were excellent

I ordered a half pepperoni half hamburger pizza once. Not only was it greasy and under cooked but they made it 3/4 pepperoni and 1/4 hamburger. Never again. Next time Ill go to Dominoes

The hostess who seated us was rude, and it went downhill from there. Food was lackluster, and way overpriced for what we got. Youd be better off at the McDonalds down the road.

Great place. Terrific atmosphere. Had the mussels and seared tuna. The mussels and the sauce they came in were the best Ive had. Excellent value. Will be back.

We ordered 2 appetizers - calamari was rubbery and over salted while coconut shrimp was burnt. Focaccia sandwiches were tasteless with very little filling.
