BEWARE!! Ok, maybe this is one of your favorite places, maybe its the closest Mexican Restaurant to your house, but heres the thing: check their ratings on the health department website. Since 2013, they have had 13 inspections. FVHD has 3 ratings classifications: poor, fair and good. Puerto Vallartas first published rating in 2013 was POOR. Then, EVERY SINGLE INSPECTION after that was FAIR. It was only until June of THIS YEAR, 2016, that they FINALLY earned a "Good" rating by the health inspector. A friend and I have gotten sick from eating there before. I SWORE I wouldnt eat there again, NOT if they had a "fair" rating. I ate there on Monday, and we are ALL SICK. I wont go into detail, but I will say that in the over 20 years I have known my husband, I have NEVER EVER seen him that VIOLENTLY ILL. I thought I was going to have to take him to the e.r. Now, my 8 yr old daughter is experiencing the same thing. Please recognize that "food poisoning" doesnt always just mean an upset stomach. It can result in hospitalizations, months of sickness and even death. I am BEYOND infuriated that a restaurant would CONTINUE to score only "FAIR" from the health department, risking the health of their customers, and obviously BE OK WITH THAT. The fact that , up until their June inspection, they CONSISTENTLY received ENOUGH violations during every single inspection to DISQUALIFY THEM FROM A RATING OF "GOOD" is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. I will not PAY someone to prepare food for me that has such a HIGH chance of making me violently ill. I will NEVER eat at this restaurant again. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for that kind of "report card", that is not "unlucky". No, that is a management that ACCEPTS only "FAIR".

Went for dinner, 5/5/17. The drink special was 5.00 for the house margarita. Was served in a small plastic cup. My dinner was good, the combination enchilada and soft taco. While eating my dinner the waitress automatically without asking brought another margarita and said she had made a mistake with the ordered margarita and additional cup was to add to the original. Didnt quit understand what she meant. When I received my bill, she charged me 14.95 for the Margarita. (single one on the bill) It cost more that my dinner... when I questioned it, she said that was why she brought the additional cup, that it was a "grande". I said but I didnt order a grande in the first place. I asked to speak with the manager, which a man I was directed to was not the manager, he was a waiter. He said the same thing she said and had no care in reviewing the matter. I felt I was treated UN fairly. Will not go back.

Puerto Vallarta in Avon is one of our favorite restaurants in the whole Farmington Valley. The service is terrific, and we seldom have to wait long for our food. The wait staff is attentive and always ready to fill up our water glasses or bring more chips and salsa. The extensive menu means that we have a lot of choices, and weve never been disappointed by the quality or taste of any of the food. Servings are nicely sized and represent a good value for the cost. I like the seafood chimichangas, while my better half likes the vegetarian burrito. The combination appetizer platter is a great way to sample lots of items, and I sometimes just order that for my meal! Id also recommend the Mole California We often bring house guests to Puerto Vallarta for at least one meal during their visits, and now repeat guests ask to go to "that Mexican restaurant you took us to last time."

Great food... service not so much. I waited a solid 5 minutes for my server to come to my table. Then another 10 for my Margarita..guava, very good. I would have had another but didnt have the opportunity to order it. He took my order when he delivered my drink and it took awhile for my appetizer to arrive but voila! Only 2 minutes later came my entree! The server just kind of quietly placed on the corner of my table and then he disappeared..never to be seen again. The busser came by a few times to offer me water but no one ever asked if my food was ok or if I needed anything. When I finished eating and checked the time and 12 minutes passed before the server remembered I was there and asked if I wanted anything else. No one ever asked if everything was ok, if the food was good. Not once. The food was really good but I wish I had gotten it to go.

This is not the place for you if you have celiac disease. Although their menu has a few items that are marked as GF, beware that they actually may not be. For instance, I ordered the taquitos lindos, and even though none of the ingredients are made with wheat, the dish is fried in the same oil that is used for other wheat products, and so there is clearly a cross contamination issue. Similarly, their tortilla chips are also fried in the same oil. We also found the waitstaff to be very unfamiliar with gluten allergies when we asked about what was safe to eat.

While the food here is better than average fare, and the guacamole made fresh at the table, its difficult to consider anything about PV as "excellent", simply because for the cost, the restaurant is nothing exceptional. With drinks, appetizer and main course, a $35-40 per head price point should yield far more memorable fare than this. While acceptable, there is nothing on the menu that says, "You HAVE to try this"...in fact, all weve tried tastes exactly as it would at half a dozen other regional establishments, for 75% of the cost.

Service is always FANTASTIC!!! We like Mexican food and come here often. We also frequent other area resturants but what I like about this place over the others is the outstanding service. First someone delivers water chips and salsa, then a friendly waiter greets you for drink orders, then another refills your water before you are empty. And it never stops, I mean that in a good way, more salsa, water, food..... They aim to please in everyway a restaurant should and always deliver. I love eating here!

So good weve been here twice in the last three days. Our favorite is the tableside guacamole. They accommodated a special request to have steak and chicken in the fajita quesadilla. The chimichangas are crispy and golden. (Warning. . .They are served with lettuce, sour cream and guac on top. So, if you want the crispiness to last, order the toppings on the side.) The Pyrat Punch was fruity and refreshing. Our servers both nights were very good - even on a busy Saturday night

Very nice place, very good service I was exited to go eat at Puerto Vallarta in Avon, I ordered the carnitas I loved the pickle onions and tomatoes but the actually carnitas were dry and lack of flavor, the guacamole made it at the table was outstanding, I also ordered a Victoria beer and I was very disappointed whe the waiter brought a canned beer since in the menu specified that it was bottle beer, I am not fan of canned beers, we were very happy with the service.

This mexican restaurant is without a doubt one of the best I have ever experienced, this includes Phoenix AZ restaurants where I used to live. Great menu and attentive staff. This is not Tex Mex fare but really good mexican food of all types. Dont miss it. I should keep quiet to better my chances of getting a seat, although we generally eat at the bar. There are two other restaurants owned by this family in the greater Hartford area.
