I ordered my sons birthday cake from Cakeheads sometime in November. They were recommended by a baker I very much respect whose price range was outside what I was willing to spend. I drove from Boulder to Denver to meet with someone there to design my cake, then paid in full (about $600) and arranged to pick up my cake February 6 at 9:45. The party was at 11. On February 5, the day before the party, I realized they had never contacted me to confirm the pick up time. I called and left a message asking to confirm, and also emailed the woman I had been working with. No one responded to me. On February 6, my mothers husband went to pick up the cake at 9:45. Someone drifted in around 10, and had no idea what cake he was talking about. They found the order (which was stamped Paid in Full), and apologized that they had dropped the ball. Apparently, they hadnt checked their phone messages the day before, and the woman I had emailed had left the company. They hadnt set up her email to forward to her replacement or closed the email account; her name was also still on the incoming phone greeting, so I had no way of knowing she wasnt there anymore. I got a series of excuses from three different people as I scrambled to find a replacement cake, including the owner pestering me to know what he could do to help. (Given that the party was in about 20 minutes when he called, there was nothing, but he only continued pleading with me to tell him what to do. I didnt need that extra stress, especially when there was NOTHING he could do. Not gonna lie, I was extremely angry and yelling, and he eventually yelled right back at me.) Kim and Jakes Cakes tried to help me find a baker who could make my already beautifully designed cake within time, and offered to give me the gluten free cupcakes I ordered for free. (So generous, I didnt take them up on this.) Piece, Love, and Chocolate tried to help me by offering to make the cake by 3pm, but that was going to be during my sons nap time, and the party couldnt be rescheduled. I did buy 3 cakes from the display at Piece, Love and Chocolate, and they offered to charge me only for 1 slice. (Again, I didnt take this up. How amazing that 2 different bakers tried to fix what Cakeheads messed up!) The PLC cakes were delicious and, in my opinion, probably better than what I would have received from Cakeheads anyway. And lest you think its crazy to spend $600 on a birthday cake: I know. But my kids only turn 1 once, and we dont do it for every birthday. Its just wonderful to celebrate making it that first year! And these bakers are around for crazy people like me, so a little respect from them would be nice. Beware; dont send your business this way.

I would NEVER recommend Cakeheads Bakery to anyone interested in looking for a cake. Not because of the taste or décor, in fact, they were quite beautiful, but because their customer service and organization was terrible!! I ordered 4 cakes totaling $180.00 for our companies monthly birthday celebration on their online ordering system. On their website they say you can pick up cakes the following day by 11am. I had ordered 26 hours ahead of pickup time. I never received a confirmation email so I called the next morning and they never looked at the online orders and had I not called they never would have seen my order, at least not by the time I needed the cakes. They said they would have them ready by 4pm and I said I needed them by 12 like my order stated. She later came back and said they could do them by 12:30. I got to the bakery at 12:35 to pick up the cakes and had to ring the bell 3 times before someone came up to help me. The guy asked what I needed and before I could finish my whole sentence about what I was picking up he went to the back and I guess got my order ready. He didnt ask how he could help, my name or let me know if it would be a few minutes while he boxed up my order. I had to wait 15 min before I knew what he was doing. He saw me standing there and didnt acknowledge me once or let me know it was going to be a while. He seemed annoyed with me from the moment I came in which seems odd considering it was THEIR fault for messing up on my order in the first place. He very quickly went over 3 out of the 4 cakes I bought and just threw the fourth one down and didnt even tell me which one it was. He never said thank you for your business or made eye contact once. The girl who helped me out to the car was very sweet, much nicer than her boss. I asked who the guy was and she told me that he was the owner of the bakery. I have never encountered a business owner who was so rude and ungrateful for a customers business. I was going to continue to order our monthly bday cakes from them but I quickly opted out of that idea. Its a shame because they were pretty and tasted great. Poor customer service will always lose business no matter how great their product is. The owner should take some lessons on customer service from his employees.

I am less than impressed with my experience with Cake heads Bakery. I first emailed them to inquire about making a cake for my daughters birthday and I received a quick response that pretty much said I needed to stop by the bakery to talk to someone in person to place my order. I wanted to make sure that I didnt need an appointment, that way I could sit down with someone so they could understand exactly what I was looking for. I was told that no appointment was required, that I could stop by at anytime. When I arrived to order the cake, the woman who sat down with me, seemed completely rushed and she was not very friendly. We went over specific colors and designs that were to be on the cake for my daughter. I was also told that I would get an email confirmation a few days before the cake was to be picked up. I received NOTHING!! When I picked up her cake and it looked nothing like what we had discussed. I am pretty much infuriated at this point, I just paid $132 for a cake that, dont get me wrong, looks decent, but looks nothing like what I asked this woman to make for my daughter. I will NEVER do business with this bakery again and I urge you to do the same!!

These guys are amazing! Twice they were able to make a cake and deliver it the same day I placed an ordered - super short notice for bakery - but they were up to it! Their cakes all made from the scratch, no pre-made ones - so everything is fresh! Service is really good! Although I havent tried their cakes my friends who received them as presents said that they were really good and decorations were very tasteful and beautiful! Thank you Cakeheads and Alyssa!!!! I will order again and again!
