I made a reservation a month in advance for a bachelorette/bachelor party. The original reservation was at 6:30pm for 20 people. Before the night we upped our number to 22 guests. We were told we would have a more private area. Some of our party showed up at 5:40 to secure the space. When they got there the Rio had a difficult time "finding our reservation". When I arrived at 6:30 they informed me that due to the number of reservations the morning manager received that day they rearranged the seating to accommodate everyone. We somehow ended up without a spot. We didnt get seated until 7:15. We were split up to 2 different tables. We asked if we could combine the tables and they did attempt to help. When all of our party arrived it ended up being split up in 3 different tables. The manager attempted to make things right by giving complimentary guacamole and queso. They only had one server attempting to take care of all of us plus the rest of his tables. When I spoke to the manager and told him that we would have preferred to sit together they moved us upstairs. The table was supposed to be ready for us and it was not. We also ended up with the same amount of space as we had downstairs, our chairs were just pushed close together to make 22 fit. We waited at the new table for 30 minutes before we were able to track down a server. At this point a manager standing near our table told the server to keep all the tickets separate because we were already "one hell of a table". A limo service was scheduled to pick us up at 9pm. Once we had someone taking our order everyone ordered food and I let them know that we were in a time crunch at this point. The food came out great except for my husbands and my own. Im assuming because we were the one having to deal with the tables complaints to the managers. We shared steak nachos. There were hardly any chips, it was burned to a crisp with no cheese. The steak was not even comparable to the steak that was served in the fajitas that the guest next to us ordered. At this point we did not draw attention to it since we needed to leave and was honestly sick and tired of complaining. I am not blaming the servers. I think they did the best they could given the circumstances they were under. Our reservation should have been honored. They seemed under staffed and poorly equipped to handle a party of our size even though we made the reservation in plenty of time in advance to prepare for us. Under no circumstances should someone in a manager postion be overheard talking bad about thier guests. I have been to the Rio Grande in Boulder and have always had a great experience. I will not be returning to the one in Denver.

Loved it!!! Update(2017): Since my last review I have moved here and have frequented this place. My personal experience has always been terrible! The salsa is bland, with little to no taste, the fajita meet dry, crusty and at times missing all together!!! Dont get me started on the flour tortillas..... certifiable weapons when thrown due to how dried and stiff they are. The people here are always stoned out of their minds, I even had a stare down with one once.....then they ate one of my chips :/ Needless to say, please dont come here, and if your currently going here, please stop as well. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation, as this will allow for me to finally be able to show up, when I would like too, and not have to wait to be seated. Thank you!!!

Worst experience ever… I have never been a big fan of the food but the drinks have always been great! Dec. 28, 2015 before the Monday Night football game, Broncos vs. Bangles, we discovered that our favorite Mexican restaurant D’Corazon across the street was closed. We decided to give the Rio a try for food, what a mistake. The place was not crowded yet it took 30 minutes to get our drinks then another 10 minutes to place our food order. 20 minutes after that the waiter took our order he came to our table to ask “Did I put our order in????” Like we would know what he has done. Needless to say he didn’t!! We were on a time schedule for the game and wasted one whole hour on this place and were only served 1 drink. Will never walk in the Rio again!!

The margaritas are my favorite. The chips and salsa are free! They even offer habanero salsa (but at a price). The queso is great as well. The chips are corn so they are gluten free. When trying to figure out if my meal was gluten free or not the owner came over and verified. The fajitas with corn chips are. Before I realized I had an intolerance a year ago Ive tasted their green chili soup and enchiladas, and they are to die for! The service has always been nice, even when they are busy. Ive only been to their outside portion once, and it has a comfortable romantic feeling to it. The outside bar staff treated us very well. They even joked with us. I would like if they thought about a possible roof top bar (if possible! : ) )

Wow what a horrible birthday, incompetent servers and management. I have never given no tip until tonight. For thirty minutes we waited to have our order taken and that was after we had to grab a manager. Instead of taking our order though, they asked us to move our party of 15 so they could accommodate a larger party, needless to say we werent moving since they couldnt even serve the parties they had. The food was mediocre at best and took an additional 45 minutes to receive once we ordered. Luckily this place will be probably out of business in 6 months or so, just like every other restaurant downtown. Dont waste your time or hard earned money at this god awful establishment.

Went before a Rockies game. There were about 25 empty tables but my group of four had to wait for 30 minutes with a pager, while the ditzy white girls were seating other people. The communication was horrible. We literally watched an empty table and when our buzzer went off we were taken to that table. It was a complete waste of time. It was very loud and rowdy inside. The margaritas were very good - I didnt order food though because I didnt want to give them any more money. I just ate three baskets of chips & salsa. Also, they dont have any beer listed on the menu and therefore no prices. (Apparently, they do carry some beers). Management needs help. I wont be back.

Went there with my boyfriend last night, we got seated right away! Along with other people that got seated with us at the same time, which was weird cause they had seemed to get chips and salsa and we didnt! We were there for a good 30 minutes and NO SERVERS ever came up to us a checked if we were taken care of, there were plenty of servers that came and walked by us and noticed us but NEVER asked if we were already taken care of or not! Ended up leaving! HORRIBLE service and wont be going there, considering we were recommended to go there since we are out of state people!
