Love this place! In fact, if another person tells me that they hate that theres no good Mexican food in Denver again Im going to seriously consider driving them to the nearest El Tapatio myself & ordering them the Carne Asada plate! Its that good. Ive only been here twice now and everything Ive ordered has been delicious. Starting with the warm crispy chips & deliciously seasoned salsa that is served when you sit down at the table. Its spicy without being unbearably hot that you cant enjoy it & the chips are crispy, salty & warm...just the way it should be! Ok so back to that Carne Asada plate...the steak was well seasoned & tender and it made for the best tacos inside of the freshly made flour & corn tortillas covered in all the toppings it came with - yum! Ive also had their Chicken Enchiladas Suizas that were perfectly cooked, smothered in cheesy goodness & green chile. I kicked it up a notch by adding a side of pickled jalapenos and it made each bite even better! My girlfriend has ordered the Chicken Mole and just recently the Steak Picado and I loved both dishes. The Mole did have a flavor profile not synonymous with typical Mole....like they added cinnamon to it or something but it was still really good with the side of freshly made tortillas. Now were from TX so TexMex Mexican food is our favorite. Its usually full flavored & always very well seasoned, not needing any salt or pepper, and this food reminded me of good homemade TexMex Mexican food. If I had to pick anything apart I would say that they need to add more chicken stock/broth & fresh tomatoes to the rice to make it taste more fresh & homemade and they do need to add more cilantro, tomato, jalapeno & salt to the guacamole to liven it up because its lackluster at best, but the refried beans are the best Ive had in a long time and the flan, oh the flan....man they should be ashamed of themselves for serving so little of it because I wanted to eat mine, my girlfriends and whatever they had left back in the kitchen!!! It was creamy, thick, custard like but perfectly gelatinous and caramelly sweet! Mmmmm, mmmmm good!!!! Real quick before I jump in the car & drive there just to get me some of that flan - their frozen strawberry margaritas are huge & pretty yummy but definitely not the best Ive ever had...just not sweet enough for me & could have had a bit more tequila for my taste but it wouldnt deter me from ordering one again on a future visit. So there you have it...2 thumbs up from me! Oh & btw - the customer service has always been impeccable once the initial server translates your English to another server who speaks both Spanish AND English lol. Highly recommended!

We usually love this place it has great food and usually great service.....however this last trip was a roller coaster ride. They sat us and no one came to take our drinks or deliver chips for about 10min. Then the coke tasted awful so we had to get Dr peppers instead. Then we wait and wait and wait some more until we think the manager comes over and takes our order. Then our food comes out completely wrong. So I eat mine even though its wrong, my hubby ate his , his was actually fine. My friends order was a disaster. So they attempt to remake it but forget about her so we wait like 30 more mins for the correct order. They finally bring it out after someone came over and said is everything ok and she lost it. They finally bring her food and hits the 8mo old baby in the head with a hot plate. Baby seems ok but still not cool. Waitress apologizes for the horrible service. She was sweet and compassionate. Then we believe the manager came over and tried to explain what happened but he was so frazzled and spoke so quickly all we got out of it was they messed up. He offered to give her the meal free. We waited another 25 min to even find someone to ask for the check. The waitress then came back and said its free today for everyone. I am so happy they tried to make their horrible experience right with us. I hate that I even had to write this but I feel u need the back story to understand how awesome this was. I will continue to eat there for many years to come and the food is amazing! And they have amazing customer service even in the end of a bad experience.

A good sign: this restaurant is always packed with native Mexicans. If a native will eat here, the food must be reputable and authentic! Just experienced my third visit at this fine establishment and definitely plan on revisiting soon! The service is polite and hospitable. They make you feel well-taken of and frequently check in to see how your dining experience rates. Menu is pretty lengthy, with plenty of options. I recommend the chicken (and steak) fajitas, but my boyfriend always orders the egg, potato, sausage, and chorizo breakfast burrito smothered in green chili and cheese! It is "to die for", and you know it is prepared fresh when it is ever so slightly different upon each visit. They feature an all-day breakfast menu. I wish the guacamole was a little tastier (I prefer Chipotles mix, actually! Gasp?) The sign outside the building boasts about the seafood, but I have yet to try. ORDER THE FLAN FOR DESSERT! It is like cheesecake on the "bottom", but becomes increasingly pudding-like as the mold nears the caramel "top". This is difficult to explain, so I suggest you subject your taste buds to its custardy goodness! :)

The first reviewer nailed it! I have eaten there twice recently, and have to agree that the food is out of this world! The Denver area is, overall, not the best place to find good cuisine (Chinese fare and seafood, in particular, comes to mind). Ive lived on both coasts--and even in Alaska--and, oddly, even Fairbanks AK boasts better restaurants per capita than does Denver. For example, the best breaded deep-fried prawns (jumbo shrimp), imported from the Gulf of Mexico, were savored at this unassuming little place, called "The Elfs Den," just outside of Fairbanks. Ive yet to find anything in the Denver area that even comes close. But I digressed... My response to the next review ("AWFUL") is simply this: Laura, are you sure you are reviewing the same Mexican restaurant? From my experience with El Tapatio, I could not disagree more--and I am very picky when it comes to restaurant fare! Ill put this fine little Mexican restaurant above anything Ive experienced in the Denver area--to include The Blue Bonnet! If you love good Mexican food, dine here with confidence, peeps. You wont be disappointed!

We tried this one, HOPING the service would be better than the West Alameda EL Tapatio, where it took us an hour and a half to have what would normally have been an hour dinner at a place that had good service. We were even more disappointed, if that was possible. We were at this restaurant a full 20 minutes while being ignored, and I finally waved at a manager who was seating people and he took our order for soft drinks. The waitress was nowhere to be found, from the time we walked into the place, and during most of the meal. We wanted refills of iced tea and "coffee" and had to wait long periods of time. Speak of the "coffee", the iced "coffee" was abysmal. It tasted like watered down pre-ground trash from a can. Many restaurants do far better than that, but I rate the "coffee" as a 1, on a scale of 1-10. The food was decent, but not worth the lack of service and very bad "coffee". All in all, were not going to make this mistake again. "Fool me once, its your fault. Fool me twice, its my fault". We thought that the other location of this restaurant might be better. It wasnt.
