This is by far the worst place I have ever been. Talk about obnoxious owners. They never admit fault. I agree with Elizabeth who wrote a review about how nasty these people are. These owners brag that their food is trucked in from NY. No wonder the bacon is fatty and tough. Why would you buy beef from NY when there is the best beef right her in CO? Shows you the mentality of these owners. I go by this place quite a bit in my daily travels and I do mean I go right on by. These owners discriminate against all minorities and just people in general. They are rude and arrogant. My friend and I wanted to sit in a booth in front but we werent allowed because we didnt fit the image of the nasty woman owner. And I do mean nasty and ugly. We got the same rude treatment from this woman owner as Elizabeth did when she complained about her glass of water. This woman owner took us to the furthest table in the back of the restaurant where we couldnt be seen or heard and the restaurant wasnt even half full. Im sure Elizabeth didnt fit the image of the nasty, ugly woman owner, so the owner refused to comp the meal. I obviously dont know the full cost of the meal but it was worth it to the nasty, ugly woman owner to lose a customer? I know she lost two customers when my friend and I walked out. So that is 3 customers in one day the owner lost. And the owners post photos of all types of celebrities who supposedly ate there. When was the last time anyone saw anyone of star status there besides the owners who think they are star status? Do you think Elway from Elways would dine at this dive instead of his own fancy restaurant in Cherry Creek? Really, its time these owners had a reality check. And in my daily travels past this dive I do notice there are less and less patrons in the parking lot. I also notice they are advertising for help. Could it be the help has realized they can do better elsewhere and have considerate bosses and owners? I hope so. these owners should go back to NY but they wouldnt make it there.

Saturday April 9th lunchtime. I found a piece of plastic wrap (about 1 inch by 1 inch) in my cole slaw after repeated chewing alerted me to it being something other than cabbage. I dont know how much I swallowed. Having no desire to make a scene I calmly reported this to the waiter who promptly called the "General Manager" named Mel over to the table. Mel made what seemed like a obligatory apology at best (the people at the next table overheard and shared this with me) and, trying to keep the mood light, I asked for another side of cole slaw without the plastic wrap. Now I certainly didnt expect the meal to be comped but at least some offer of something would have been reasonable even if that had been just a heartfelt apology. After we paid the full bill I asked Mel "how could you not even offer at least some adjustment?" to which he actually responded that "things happen" and "it is the policy of the owner". So, unless Mel was not telling the truth, this is the policy of the owner, Al Belsky, to not stand behind serving safe food and that really concerns me and should concern anyone considering eating at this restaurant. There certainly are other good New York-style deli options in the Denver area. I really dont know how much of the plastic wrap I ate but it is fairly disgusting to think about it. Needless to say I will never eat at this restaurant again. I now better understand another reviewers statement of "kind of dirty".

I went to New York Deli today for lunch with 5 other people. Everything was fine - had a good waitress - until I noticed a 4 - 5 inch long piece of paper or fabric in my glass of water after I refilled it from the pitcher of water on the table. I showed the waitress and a woman who later claimed to be the owner). Told them I assumed it had been under the ice in my glass initially and now was loosened to float up. They took the glass of water, my waitress brought me another and went to leave. I told her I felt sick from having a strange object in my water and I wanted to know what they planned to do. The woman who claimed to be the owner smiled and said it was just some paper from a straw and probably fell into the ice in the back, that was all it could have been since they run a "very clean" restaurant. I told her it was not clean - people handle that and she said "at least it didnt come off the floor" - although I do not know how she knew that. I told her I felt I needed to wash my mouth out with bleach and she just got snotty and said they were taking my egg salad sandwich (the cheapest thing we ordered) off the bill!!!!! WHAT A FAVOR! I told her she should comp our meal and she said "no" and when I told her I would never come back she mouthed obsenities as she walked away (my son saw her). NASTY PLACE - NASTY OWNERS - DIRTY!!!!!!! Still feel sick not knowing what was in my drink. NEVER GO TO NEW YORK DELI

Although the food is OK most of the time (Ill never order the roasted chicken again-the last few times its been so dry with the skin peeling off it seems its been sitting there for a day) the service is the issue. The day people at the front counter have attitude. I go in frequently to purchase soup to go-I dont think I have ever paid the same price for the same item. And, of course, the people are good at excuses as to why I pay different prices (I was lucky last time, they give breaks, or they simply shrug). I paid by cc this last time, accidentally left the cc and walked out the door not thinking about it. Two customers, yes customers, caught me in the parking lot and told me I left my card at the counter. No employee made an attempt to let me know. I walked back in, and a 3rd customer was glad to see that I came back for the card. I made the comment to the employees that customers let me know my card was sitting there, no employee ever made an attempt. Again, a look and a shrug from the employees. Also, I was not thanked for for coming in. Definitely arrogant. Glad they have competition. The Bagel Deli is two blocks to the west-northwest corner of Monaco and Hampden. Try it. Always friendly service there.

Weve given this place three chances, and it just isnt getting any better. The sandwiches are generous, to be sure, but theres nothing exceptional about the quality of the food. For the prices they charge, Id expect "organic" to be every third word. We tried the carrot cake and the chocolate cake for dessert. Both had the grainy, tasteless quality you find in gluten-free recipes, though they insist they arent. The frosting tasted like cheap, out-of-the-can product. Its sad when a restaurant cant even get chocolate cake right. The servers are nice enough, but they dont add to the experience. Theyre utterly lack-luster and barely interested in your dining experience.I can see this place appealing to so some for the detached lack of attention from the staff, and I trust that those who praise it for being "just like a New York deli" are sincere. But as far as a great dining experience, there are plenty of other places that are more enjoyable to eat at.
