Stopped here mid afternoon on a Friday, there was a decent crowd, the garage doors were open to Tennyson and it was lovely inside and out. We were greeted by a gracious and very friendly hostess who found us the perfect seat to enjoy the outdoor weather without being fully in the sun or fully inside. We were seated quite quickly and the hostess took time to answer my usual questions about what the place is known for, what she likes and what most customers like. We were then greeted by our server Harrison who was very knowledgeable and honest about the menu and suggestions. And according to my wife resembles a very tall Orlando Bloom!! I started off with a Margarita, the bartender was very generous with the Tequila and my wife ordered the most amazing coffee flavored stout beer. We continued our tour of taste with chips and fresh quacamole, and it was very fresh and flavorful with a slight hint of spice. My wife ordered an aruguala salad with chicken while I ordered the linguine and clams as recommended by the hostess and Harrison, our server. Both dishes were excellent, truly excellent. There was so much flavor in my linguine and clams I was immediately smitten! My wifes salad was equally flavorful, the chicken, real whole pulled chicken was cooked perfectly and with a wonderful soft BBQ flavor. While her dish a bit lighter than my dish, however, she ordered the small which turned out to be big enough to take some home! Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates well developed flavors, a relaxed even chill atmosphere with fabulous service!

Ive been in twice now for lunch and the first visit was amazing. Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was fast and fresh. I enjoyed my lunch, but wasnt able to make a review at the time. I went back for lunch this week and it was an awful experience. Im going to say first off that the Bar Tender was left to run the restraunt with only one server who obviously was serving the other two people in the place. She was nice, but had no clue how to wait a table. She ran to the kitchen every chance she got. The food was a salad and a taco. We waited forever to place that order because she decided to make drinks at the bar for the other table without checking on us before doing do. She should have known we didnt need 20 minute to find something on the menu. I understand this has to happen, but do things in a timely fashion. She ruined the experience and I basically just wanted to leave the whole time. Im not sure if shes new or if this place just has a super casual work atmosphere, but it made the meal awful. Also the music from the kitchen was louder than the music in the restraunt. I feel like I hit a time when they werent at full pace and I cant condemn for that. The food wasnt bad, but the taco was a little salty and the salad was slimy this round. This isnt my last trip , but I would hope some of these things are addressed before I return. All places have a bad day...

I was very excited to try the food at mas kaos, having enjoyed their sister restaurants. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, but the service was terrible!! I sat out on the patio as part of a group of five, at a table with an umbrella. Apparently the umbrella at our table had been set up incorrectly because 3/4ths of the way through our meal the umbrella started to tilt. All of a sudden the wind picked up and picked up the table literally dumping food and water all over me! When I stood up dripping, our server did not say a thing to me, only throwing a towel at me. My companions and I were not prompted as to where we should go or what to do so we moved to a nearby table. Eventually the server came back and started cleaning up the broken glass at our table. Concerned that the table would blow over again, I tried to point out the part of the umbrella that could easily be fixed and she replied in an extremely acidic tone, "Im cleaning this up, THEN Ill fix it." Needless to say I was shocked! I know it was not her fault that the umbrella was set up incorrectly but her response was unacceptable. There was no apology, only irritation! And we paid full price for food we did not have a chance to finish. I was very disappointed.

Went there last Wednesday early afternoon and the service was as poor as you could get. Got some kid who appeared completely stoned and mumbled everything he tried to say. We had 6 in our party whom all gave an order and after he brought out food he didnt take notice that my Grandmother wasnt served nor did he ask if everything was correct or if we wanted any hot sauces. He just took off and started socializing with the other staff. It was not busy at all, only 3 or 4 tables at the time. I had to go hunt him down ask about the missing order. He apparently never put it in and all our food was cold by the time my Grandmother was served. I was embarrassed I brought my out of town family here to show them my neighborhood. Food was good but the smoke flavor was a bit strong and I usually love that sort of cooking. Presentation keeps the experience from being a 1 star. Cant recommend this place with all the other great ones on the street.

Great food, good drinks, poor service. I like this place and I plan on returning but the service staff needs to be reminded to care, or at least pretend to care. I have dined here 3 times and they never seem to pay attention or look like they give a crap about a persons dining experience. Un-bussed tables that sit without being cleaned and lack of attention to people walking in the door are the main takeaways. The food trumps though. Pizza, apps, and salad are solid and the drinks taste great. Theyll get their act fully together. I think this place will be a top restaurant for me once they tie up some loose ends.

The Good: You cant beat a better combination than pizza and tacos. For an appetizer I recommend the pork green chili. Although the street tacos are a little expensive they are hearty in size and two will fill most peoples appetites. The Bad: Can get a little cramp during the peak hours, but the atmosphere is lively and the food so good youll forget about the crowds. Overall: Weve been back three times, and I would recommend this restaurant for a variety of occasions.

Im so excited to have Mas Kaos in the neighborhood. The restaurant is open and welcoming. The food is great from the pizza to the salads to the tacos. The staff is friendly and, although there have been times when they definitely werent the quickest, I think its just part of the startup learning curve. We have never had any staff be anything other than nice and helpful. Definitely one of the great new spots in Berkeley.

The tacos were cheap and amazing. Ive only been once, but after my experience, I will return. The service was great, friendly and helpful. The cocktails were also good. Outdoor seating is nice with views of the gentrification and horrific building projects that transplants have caused in the area. The inside is charming and modern as youd expect. The place seems clean and is generally welcoming.
