Passing through from Texas on vacation and have been watching reviews on this restaurant as it is the type of place that is right up mine and my husbands alley so we stopped in to give it a try. We were greeted by a female server and host who were very friendly and seated us quickly. We had our 4 yr old daughter with us and were given no indication that the restaurant was not child freindly. A male server greeted us and took our drink order then promptly walked to the host stand looking very agitated. He then came back without the drinks I ordered to tell us about the specials. He kept looking at my daughter as if she was irritating him and when she picked up the pepper shaker and showed it to him he responded with a "please dont let her do that" in an aggressive tone while looking at me as if I was a horrible person for daring to bring her in the first place. She wasnt being loud , she wasnt running around , she wasnt shaking pepper and salt in the table or bothering anyone. As the parent of a four year old I am acutely aware and completely understand not all establishments allow children or at least prefer not for children to be present under a certain age/ maturity level. If the reviews and description of the place had at least hinted that this was the case I wouldnt have come to this restaurant in the first place. I get it, I really do. I was a server/ bartender for 6 years as well as my husband and I understand that feeling of being seated with young children and praying to God they didnt scatter every sugar packet , crumb and cube of ice on every surface they touched but seriously? Have a little more tact. I am a hungry momma with a hungry child and a hungry husband and money to spend. If my daughter was acting like a tyrant I would be sympathetic as well as embarrassed and would have left the restaurant unprompted. Instead, after hours in the car with my hungry family and really wanting to give this place a try we left before ordering anything. In all fairness, I didnt get to try the food, but the place smelled amazing and I was treated well by the other two staff members I encountered hence the two stars. Also , looking at the prices on the menu, which was obviously very well thought out, I would agree with a previous poster that this place really belongs on the $$ or $$$ category however by the look of some of the other patrons food I dont think the prices would have been unreasonable for the quality of the food. I unfortunately didnt get to find out.

This was my second visit to the Chowder Room and it was just as tasty as the first! The setting is cozy and is great for dinner. The staff is very friendly and attentive to the little things (e.g., pre-busing, never letting drinks go empty, etc.) This place is definitely "as good as it gets" when it comes to seafood, so you should give it a try! Atmosphere: Cozy/quaint. We had a party of seven and were seated at a huge booth with one chair at the end. The closeness in seating actually helped everyone stay in the conversation. The restaurant is above average on noise-level. Staff: Janet, our server, was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. She was so much fun. All of her recommendations hit the spot. The FOH in general ran very smooth with all staff helping each other run food, pre-bus, etc. I love seeing teamwork in action. Hats off to the manager for promoting this discipline. Food: If I could give an extra star, I would. The table started out with an order of clam strips, oysters and shoestring fries. The clam strips were fried to perfection. I chose oysters from the northwest and they were both fresh and delicious. I started with the crab bisque of the day. So delicious. I had the BBQ Shrimp for dinner. This is probably some of the best BBQ shrimp in town and as close to New Orleans as you can get. The sauce is just pure heaven. Be sure to order at least two extra orders of the toast points that they serve on the side. You will need them to soak up the rest of the sauce! If you love seafood in Denver, you have to give this place a shot!

Sturdy / healthy looking male servers give the impression that they share genetic lineage with New England fishermen...but a better groomed version of fisherman. Wait staff are dressed stylishly with well designed button-up shirts that say Chowder Room takes pride in the details. At the recommendation of our red-headed server, Riley, my husband and I sampled the oysters. This was new territory for us landlubber Coloradans. Riley brought us the West Coast Oysters and the East Coast. Riley explained that the East Coast oysters had a more briny, salty flavor. West coast oysters err on the side of slightly sweet. Oysters were presented on a bed of crushed ice, on a chilled metal platter. Oysters were surrounded by three dipping sauces. Nathan also checked in with us regularly, and he was helpful. New England meets Denver with style. Wicked good!

As a pescatarian from LA driving thru the neighnorhood, I was hoping for adequate and was surprised by the delicious offerings! The trout with mole sauce special caught my attention. My husband and I started with a Ceasar salad that was very tasty with chunks of anchovies and fresh paramasean. We split the trout special and grilled octopus on hummus. The octopus was perfectly cooked, meaty not rubbery, yum! The trout was so delicious, we decided to put them to the real test and ordered a crab cake. At first we were disappointed not to see chunks of crab, but to our surprise, is was indeed chock full of crab and very tasty, with a crispy exterior. Not the best crab cake Ive ever had, but they passed the crab cake test. I look forward to our next drive thru the neighborhood. I hope its soon!

New England Clam Chowder. Not. Canned clams? Rubbery clams . Chowder had no clam broth flavor just potato, flour and milk.Served lukewarm didnt finish bowl. Daughter had mussels with wrong broth so they took off the tomato broth and added butter wine broth...bits of tomato sauce in it gritty and cold. Small portion of calamari also lukewarm . Cant figure out why all our food was cold . Could see the kitchen and plates put up , they didnt sit there long. Our waiter was in a bad mood from hello!? Never had someone so disgruntled...noticed table next to us had a good waiter so luck of the draw? Thought it was expensive for portion size and quality.

The existence of this place makes not living by the sea more tolerable. I came by the other day for a brunch fix of chowder and clam strips but unfortunately they werent open yet. Long story short, I had a bowl of chowder at an upscale downtown restaurant later that night and quickly realized that I should have just waited on the sidewalk for a couple hours until the chowder room opened their door. Also, the clam strips are perfection. Great drinks too.

Amazing food. Had clams, clam chowder, snow crab claws, and a Po boy with crab cakes. Every single thing was delicious. Server Nathan was attenive and gave great suggestions on local beer that went very nicely with lunch. Decor makes you feel like your back on the east coast. Cant wait to go back and try more menu items. Also the bill came in an old Bay can. Super great touch to the theme, and to top it all off there was salt water taffy in the can!
