Quijotes – Chicken Enchiladas Union + Platte (Bijou) 6/7 While this isn’t the first time I have been here, it certainly is the first time I really evaluated it for a review. The last time I was here was a semi-random impromptu bible study earlier this year. After a camping trip was unexpectedly cut short from the county banning all camp fires and an incident with a friends cab, we wound up coming home. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful surprise when driving to my brothers house I remembered Quijotes and decided to stop in for lunch. After perusing the menu, I decided on the spicy chicken enchiladas. Not only are the prices incredibly reasonable ($4.99/plate), their food didn’t disappoint. The rice and beans were delicious (although I normally prefer a more seasoned rice), the portions were large without being glutonous, they came with a balanced amount of guac and vegetables to add a cool touch to the temperature and the spiciness of the dish. Which brings us to the sauce. I love hot foods and hot sauce, but I don’t enjoy sacrificing flavor for heat. This is where Quijotes succeeds. The plate was spicy enough to open my sinuses and bring a tingle to my tongue, while simultaneously stimulating my taste buds with a hot and savory blend. Also, for dessert I ordered the churros, which I was ecstatic to find out they are home made. Add to that, that they come with a home made traditional style hot chocolate, whipped cream and chocolate syrup and you would be blown away that they are only $4.99 for 4.

This is your standard Mexican fare. I have no idea why its rated so high... Im guessing that its because people in this city dont know what good food is, and there is not a lot of competition so they dont know any better. Not trying to be nasty, I just cant figure it out. That being said, the pork in my burrito was... um, maybe not pork. The skin was thicker than pork (I assume it was skin), and the meat was kinda gamey. Im seriously concerned about what it is I ate. My boyfriend says his torta was the worst hes ever had. If you think cheese and beans and pseudo pork is good, then by all means, go here. The dishes are uninspired and greasy; maybe suitable if youre really stoned or drunk and nothing else is open. The atmosphere is awkward as all get out, to boot. The server was only partially present and didnt seem to want to serve us. Certainly not 4.5 stars. 2 at best.

My husband and I were initially thrown off when there were no other cars in the entire parking lot, and no other patrons dining, but by the end of the meal we decided it must just be slower near closing time on a week-night because the food is truly amazing. Its clearly family run and they took great care of us. The salsa and chips are to die for--incredibly and unique salsa, with hearty, crispy, lime-juice drizzled tortilla chips. Ive never been asked if I wanted my enchiladas spicy, and they WERE spicy!! I was on fire in a good way--a unique experience, Rice and beans were also delicious. My husband got the steak burrito and raved about that. We really enjoyed ourselves (and hated to see it so under-patronized, but hope more people are there on weekends or at other times). Great find!!

I would totally give this place fives stars...but I telll you what. They have the worst customer service. Its really upsetting when you call in an order thirty minutes ago, stand at the bar for 15 mins before your helped,( and that an understatement...people you have to acknowledge us, a glance, a nod, something that you see us and will be with us soon), then say that youre picking up an order, just for the girl to laugh and say ok well its gonna be 40 mins. Now...the reason this gets a one star rating is for the mere fact that THEY COULD OF TOLD ME THIS WHEN I CALLED, but instead when they answered the phone (sounding rushed as hell) told me TEN MINUTES!! Please just be up front with us and say, "its really busy, your wait time is(real wait time). Great food though.

Food is OK, more bang for your buck kind of place. Staff is friendly, but not very informative. I usually just take food to go, but the other day my girlfriend and I decided wed eat there for once. Food came out quick, but service was slow and unimpressive. We were never checked on if we needed anything, never asked if wed like another drink, and sat for the longest while till the "server" finally came over once I caught her attention and asked for the check and some boxes. She told us we pay at the front . . . we sat waiting, and waiting, and waiting. If we had known that was the operation, we would have left long before instead of just sitting there. Good place for takeout, disappointing for a sit down meal.

First time for dinner to go - got their mexican version of a Chicken Ceasar Salad. Let me describe: TONS of good cubed chicken, a zippy ranch dressing, little mounds of corn, tomatoes, cheese, avocado...and half a lime. It was simple, fresh & good. Ill have to try a burrito or something else for it to earn 5*s but will be back. Cute place too - grey, yellow, bright blue...open at 7am so good place to go out for breakfast too. Oh-and Miguel - "slummy part of town"??? I take some offense, it being my chosen neighborhood. Sorry if its not to your standards, but us locals take pride in it, thank you. Or maybe I should just advise you to lock your doors tightly and get out of our ghetto quick;/

This place was great... I had steak nachos... Yum! They came on a huge platter, enough for at least 3 people Staff was friendly and accommodating. Everyone at our table loved their meals. The place is a no frills restaurant. It appeared to be clean. Both the men and womens bathrooms were clean too. No complaints from us. There is a sign by the register that states you have to bring your check up there to pay your bill. We did get pop and water refills.. Music was a little loud at times, but whatever, I can live with that. We are from out of town, so dont know if we will ever get back to visit again.. But I would if I could!

Absolutely my favorite Mexican Food place in Colorado Springs. Family owned, slightly on the smaller side, cozy, delicious home cooked authentic Mexican food and atmosphere. Very good selection of eats including breakfast, lunch, dinner, appatizers, drinks, and yes Margaritas! Enjoy the option to dine in or take out with the presence of an amazingly friendly staff. Come here and you will experience prompt, courteous service with outstanding professionalism. Dont let the prices fool you! This place has amazing food at a great value. I always leave with a smile and full stomach. Dont miss out on this Hidden GEM!!

Cheese enchiladas were good, but there were some stray pieces of meat in the sauce that shouldnt have been there. Id never been asked "spicy or regular" before at a Mexican restaurant. Went with spicy and wasnt disappointed. That was a nice touch. Service was fine but minimally attentive - not amazing as other reviewers indicated. The atmosphere is lacking. Industrial gray floors. A mix of utilitarian tables and rundown booths showing a lot of age. No complimentary chips and salsa. House margarita was good - although surprisingly fruity. Ill keep looking for a favorite.
