This place seems to be pretty popular, as there is almost always a line. I have to assume that its mostly tourist traffic (people who have never been here before) or locals who simply know what, exactly, or order. My sister-in-law invited us out here, so I assume she really enjoyed the food on her previous visit. Unfortunately, nothing we received was all that good. The fries are thick-cut, but you have to eat them fast before they start to cool down, because theyre soaked in oil so much so that they start going limp almost immediately. If you love oil-soggy fries that are NOT crisp at all, but are completely limp... then youll love these style of fries. The childrens "chicken fingers" or whatever they were, were absolutely nasty (my kids wouldnt even eat them). Thats likely due to them being horrifically overcooked, but even if they were cooked properly they would not have been all that tasty at all -- just some flat, poorly-battered Sysco-purchased chicken things for kids. I guess they figure kids arent that picky, which is true -- but no amount of ketchup tricked my kids into eating those things. Also, as a parent, I taste all of the food I give to my children -- and this stuff was bad (not rotten, or poisonous -- just bad as in not good at all). I almost wish I had tried a burger or the mashed potatoes, so a few people around us seemed to enjoy those. One bad thing about this style of restaurant is that you go up to a counter and order -- with a line of people behind you. That means you dont get to sit down with a menu and ask questions of the wait staff, because you have to order right then and there at the counter and pay for it. The food is then delivered to your table. So, if youre not already familiar with the menu or how things are cooked, youre either going to piss everyone behind you off, by taking up extra time to order, or youre going to just randomly order something just to try it out. If you have a large party, or multiple families, dont expect to get served at the same time. Our mother and sister-in-laws family were almost done with their meals by the time we received ours, and we were right behind them at the order counter. Just another reason I hate restaurants like this. Ordering at a counter with a menu on the wall in front of your reminds me of fast food... and if I wanted to order like that, Id go to a restaurant good at delivering fast food instead of this place. Sorry for those who love it (for whatever reason), but it just didnt fit the bill for me or my family.

We have 2 kids with peanut allergies, and I was under a diet restriction as we searched for dinner in Trinidad. When I inquired about peanuts in the food, the Lighthouse Grill staff were very professional and thorough about verifying ingredients. I found a tasty grilled cheese to satisfy my compromised digestion, and my kids happily ate their yummy burger and chowder with confidence. In our experience, it is quite rare to find a restaurant that takes potentially lethal food allergies seriously. Or they simply refuse to serve the kids because of "legal liability" (as the other dinner place in Trinidad chose to do). In stark contrast, the Lighthouse Grill handled our ingredient questions with grace, care, and concern. They took the health and welfare of our children seriously. To the Lighthouse Grill staff, we are extremely grateful. The food at Lighthouse Grill is delicious upscale comfort food with a coastal flair. If you are looking for tasty fare and good value in Trinidad, look no further than the wonderful staff and food at Lighthouse Grill, located across from the Chevron and next to the grocery store near the Trinidad offramp. I will always remember their delectable dishes and kindhearted manner.

The homemade cream soda is made with vanilla beans and is not too sweet. My daughter, "When you first taste it, its the cream and carbonation but then the vanilla typhoon hits." The lemon mint is light and refreshing but would be better with vodka ;) The salmon cake sandwich special was maybe the most delicious thing Ive tasted in a longtime. The fish and chips were perfect with fresh tender fish in a light flavorful batter. We also had the mashed potato cone with bacon, cheese and a very tasty gravy, on the side, which doubled as an awesome dip for the fries that came with the fish. Fun, lively atmosphere with local art and, more importantly, art cards (a much more affordable and portable traveling option), for sale. The clam chowder was not the best weve had on this west coast roadtrip, but that might just be because of its misfortune in being consumed after the salmon cake from heaven.

Stopped by here today for lunch, ordered a well done burger with fries, wife ordered fish and chips. For a sunny Saturday it was very slow in here today, just a couple customers. The waitress brought our plates out, my order got screwed up, she brought me a grilled cheese sandwich not a burger, the young lady gave me a look like it was my fault but the cook admitted he messed up, I waited 15 minutes while me wife picked at her greasy fish, when the waitress brought my plate out, the fries were missing, she said I didnt order fries and Id have to pay for them, she basically shut the kitchen door on my face when I tried to speak to her.. very rude disrespectful service.. I was left very dissapointed.. .. well think twice about stopping here again, Ill be sure to share my experience with friends..

My boyfriend and I have a thing for stopping at small towns and finding interesting-looking places to eat. The restaurant here was very cute. It was small, but it fits the small-town vibe. They are known for their mashed potato cones (very good), but the guy at the register looked at us like we were dumb when we ordered a couple. The staff looked kind but actually ended up being quite unwelcoming. Not a "hi" or "have a nice day" the entire time. Service was also a bit slow even though there were only three other tables (and what seemed to be a large staff on-hand). Maybe we got the bad customer service experience because they dislike those who arent local, but it was a bit uncomfortable. If you want good food, this place gets a 4 star rating. If you want good service, this place gets a 2.

If you are starving, everything else is closed, and theres a line out the door, go to bed hungry...its worth skipping. The clam chowder is pretty good, but poor management ruined the rest of the food. They fill every order in the order put, so if you wait half an hour to order soup, they will fill it but leave on the counter until the 12 before you get their food. Thus, nasty overcooked but cold food. Took an hour to get ours. The burgers were on the counter 15 minutes. There ARE other options. Also, the 1/3 lb. Burger...No Way thats a 1/3 pounder

Waffle cones, crab melts, locally made root beer on a Saturday afternoon were wonderful. There is a bit of a wait to order and it took a bit long to gt our food. The most annoying thing was when a musician started playing at 2pm in the afternoon. We could not hear each other talk so we moved outside. When I went inside to bus our table I noticed that all of the tables in the back near the musician were empty. Lesson to management, people go for the food and to converse with friends and family. Please nix the music.
