This is not the kind of place I would normally patronize, particularly when you know its history like I do. Many years ago it was a bar often patronized by the local Coast Guard sailors, and while it wasnt a rough place it was certainly not somewhere I would go for a quality meal. I hadnt even noticed the place in years. Then one day some friends of mine took me out to eat there and it was a pleasant surprise! The menu was great, the service excellent, and the food very good in the best kind of way. It straddles that barrier between an overly produced meal and a tasty but uninspired dish. Everything was quite good without being pretentious. I was shocked to see wild boar on the menu (it was wonderful) and both the seafood and other dishes were exceptional. I have now returned several times and each time is no disappointment. On weekends, in the summer, or on holidays a reservation is the only way youll likely get seated because its quite popular. The owners and wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I have read very few complaints about The Depot, and my reaction to them all is the same; if you go with an expectation and it is not fulfilled it isnt their fault. If you go simply to have a good time and enjoy your meal you will be happily surprised. My only complaint is I cant afford to eat there more often. Highly recommended.

We recently dined at The Depot and had a fantastic evening. The chefs table provided a nice view of the kitchen and the chefs occasional chit chat with us was just enough to enhance the meal without ever interrupting. The lighting was a little bit more dim than I would have liked, but otherwise a very nicely decorated place with a great overall feel. The maitre d was sweet and inviting. As for the food... just incredible. We had an order of scallops which had a perfect sear, the mango salsa providing a nice touch of heat. Salmon and pistachio pate with herb oil and garlic dijon and toast was amazing. My dining partner had a clam pasta, the butter sauce had a great kick with a luscious clam sauce, packed with tender razor clams and hard shell clams. I had the most wonderful halibut, seared to perfection while still incredibly moist and tender inside, topped with a mouth watering onion butter. Desserts were also fantastic - my dining partner enjoyed a lovely pair of sorbets with a fresh cookie that was a nice light touch after the meal. I meanwhile had an apple cinnamon cake with stewed apples and whipped cream - highly recommended! The beer list was good and the wine list was excellent, with a nice selection of wines available by the glass. All in all, an outstanding meal and definitely a restaurant worth visiting.

I cant "like" this place enough. I wish I could give it more stars. We came in on a Saturday evening for dinner with our 2-year old. I know, I know.... not the best idea. I was reluctant, and fully prepared to leave at the first sight of the kiddo acting out, but we ended up staying through dinner. Not because our kid was perfect, but because our server was THE NICEST! Super understanding and super sweet. Shes officially one of my favorite servers ever. I regret not getting her name. But she was brunette, younger, very pretty and mentioned that she herself has a 17-18 month old. She was the best, and well be back because wed love to see her again. Also, our food was incredible. We had the Oyster Scargot, French Onion "Soup", the Dungeness Crab Mac, and the Parmesan Chicken. Everything was delicious, and I cant stress that enough. Also, we loved their beer selection. Small, but quality. We love The Depot Restaurant! We will certainly be back! Also, the two couples who sat by the crazy couple and their even crazier kid on Saturday 5/5/16 at around 2000, you guys are the best! We appreciate your understanding!

My wife and I went for dinner to celebrate retirement on 9/8 and both of us had a great meal. After picking a bottle of wine (delicious) with help from the friendly staff, we started with an appetizer of scallops which were both beautiful and delicious, in a bright green and orange spicy mango sauce that was just exquisite! Im not a big fan of spicy foods, and for me this was the perfect level - and it was amazing in the way it stayed on your palate long after the bite was gone! That was followed with the main course (Kowloon duck for my wife, cooked perfectly and delicious) and my choice was the special - wild salmon in a porcini mushroom cream sauce over mashed Yukon gold potatoes with vegetables, which was simply one of the best things Ive ever eaten! This sauce was even better than the one with the scallops, with a depth of flavors that was truly remarkable. We finished our meal with two fantastic deserts, mine a tiramisu and a chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce and ice cream for my wife!

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I will start with what I liked. The staff were friendly if not a bit rushed. The building is beautiful and very tastefully decorated as well as being historic. The food, at least what I had, was well prepared, delicious even, with generous portions. There were clams galore! Now what I didnt like. I had the Bucatini with clams. Im not sure if its a pasta dish or a soup! I had to eat so carefully it was really difficult to enjoy it. The noodles, which are heavy, would fall in the broth and splash my blouse and face! I finally resorted to tucking my napkin in my neckline in the hopes of saving my blouse! I had to ask for extra bread to help maneuver. I cant say Ive ever had anything so hard to eat! Thankfully, I was alone and not on a date. After taxes and a tip my messy dinner cost me $30 without a beverage, appetizer or dessert.

This place is a gem, a completely unexpected restaurant in a small seaside town. The staff were so friendly, we had the older guy with a ponytail and he was great, a sense of humor and really on his game in spite of it being late and busy. We decided to order a bit of everything and Im so glad we did. We got both salads and three small plates (Thai calamari, carne asada negro, and the scallops) and everything was tasty. The menu is small but varied and the kitchen seems to do a good job with it all. Oh! And of course we had the flan for dessert and it was everything youd want in a flan: light custard goodness. We will be back to try the much-lauded steak and mashers, and I have my eye on the halibut. I do recommend making a reservation on the weekends.

This place is a shining gem tucked in the green backstreets of southwest Washinton. Chef Michael is very friendly and has no qualms with making friends with his customers. The atmosphere is cheerful with walls covered in photos and a view right into the kitchen to watch Chef Michael work his magic. His abilities with all varieties of meat are astounding and his ability to create synergy between his dishes border on the exquisite. And his team are very experienced and very friendly, joking and smiling with as many customers as possible, with remarkable knowledge about everything being served. If youre ever going to be in southwestern Washington, have an empty stomach, and some spare money, get a reservation. It is definitely worth it.
