Today was bad example of customer service for this usually nice little bakery. It was unusual to be kept waiting so long with a Sugar Butter Flour employee standing right at the counter, even with her being on the phone. The young woman seemed determined not to notice or acknowledge my waiting for several minutes for her help. Perhaps she isnt able to talk on the phone and just nod or make eye contact with a walk in customer. Usually its no big deal in any retail business to wait a minute or two if the employee on the phone makes a little eye contact and motions that itll be just a moment. Then she added to the bad experience by behaving with a bare minimum of courtesy, to the point of deliberately handling another phone customer before finishing my purchase, then putting my purchased items on the far side of the counter rather than politely hand them over. To top it off she walked away when I asked her to hand me the bags. As a part time mystery shopper, that kind of customer contempt always gets a red flag notation for the store manager. Ive been to Butter Flour Sugar previously, both for walk in purchases and pre- ordered desserts with no problems; so Im not sure how or why I, or any paying customer, could deserve such awful treatment today. Cant say yet whether or not Ill go back.

I just moved around the corner from this bakery. Walked in around lunch time on my first day in my new place. The girl behind the counter was friendly. I examined the chalkboard menu, usually a sign of fresh daily changes, and decided that the turkey sandwich on a baguette sounded appetizing. Brie, cranberry compote, dijon and turkey. The sandwich was already made and sitting in a cold-case. The girl asked if I wanted it warmed up...sounded like nice melty brie oozing with little cranberry icebergs would be a nice contrast. Took ten minutes for the toaster oven to do its thing. Got the sandwich and walked home. Unwrapped the paper to find a sad display. One slice of deli turkey, and a thin slice of brie. The baguette was not fresh and Im sure sitting in the fridge didnt do it any favors. There was a weak spread of mustard and NO CRANBERRIES ANYWHERE! Paid seven bucks to eat a warm baguette section...next time, I will try a croissant. Best of luck, SBF. I hope you put more effort into the cakes that you peddle from that place.

I went here primarily after reading several of the reviews. I ordered an 8 inch round birthday cake. So happy that they took my order even though it was with just 3 days notice, my joy tourned sour when I picked up the cake. Yes, I got cake, frosting, the words happy birthday written on top and nothing else. This has to be the only bakery in the US that doesnt add decorations of any kind. No flowers, no nothing! What was worse was I ordered a chocolate and vanilla marble cake and all I got was vanilla. Oh there was a hint of chocolate cake, two tiny drops of it about the size of dimes. The bottom of the cake wasnt cake but more frosting. I guess this was to make up for the lack of decorations. Never again!

I was in the area and stopped by to grab some breakfast. I got the bread pudding which was actually really good. I was afraid that it was going to be dry, but it was super moist and nicely sweetened. I also got the burnt almond cake and OMFG it was so good. I’m actually not a huge fan of almond flavored things but this cake was the except to that rule. The cake is super soft, moist, fluffy, perfectly sweet and had a nice crunch from the almonds outside. I think about this cake once in a while and would probably be eating it daily if I lived closer. Overall, they turned me into a fan. I can’t wait until I’m in the area so I can grab another one.

Stopped in and bought cupcakes. It was a last minute thing, and they had in stock: chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, caramel, and something that was probably chocolate/cheesecake? Cupcakes were $3/pc. The frosting is piled high and it is of the more buttery than sugary variety. (I happen to prefer sugary-sweet, but others do not and would like these). I ate a vanilla cupcake and a red velvet. The cake is OK but not amazing. Vanilla could have been moister and more vanilla. There is a lot of frosting, but my sweet tooth would have liked it to be more sweet and flavorful. If you like buttercream to taste buttery, then youd like this.

I came here for their baked goods "happy hour" to get a cupcake for half off (an excellent deal), and my experience was good but not great hence the A-OK rating. I had the red velvet cupcake since it is my standard judge for cupcake quality and this one was good but nothing memorable. I think the price was right at happy hour, but I dont think that I would be okay with paying full price. On a positive note, they have baking classes where they teach you how to bake fun things and decorate them, so I think that could be a really fun thing to do one day!

One of the most popular cake shops in south bay, have had different flavors and all of them have been good. Try the red velvet. They offer all of their cakes in single potions which is great. If you got a non American name written on the cake make sure to check the spelling before you walk out. They messed up the name once but corrected it within 10 min

Its one of the best donuts Ive had, even though it is on the sweet side. Ive heard from my friends that the other donuts are pretty good too and that their croissant is bomb, but I always go there to fulfill my apple fritter cravings. Also, Sugar Butter Flour is open 24/7 and everyone working there is nice! Whats not to like?

This is a cute and great pastry shop. They have great cookies and cake. I ordered some Cookie Monster cupcakes and they looked super cute and were very delicious (flavors: banana, lemon and vanilla) just like the cheesecake I also ordered. The staff is very friendly and helps you out to get what you imagine.

I ordered their Chocolate Truffle cake for my fiances birthday and it was absolutely amazing. While I was there to pick it up, I also got a small hazelnut mousse cake and that was even better. I havent tried anything else yet but I highly recommend this place.

High quality real deal cakes and cookies. Prices has gone up a bit. Most people do takeout. There are a few tables. When one hangs out here, one realizes this shop gets a non stop stream of customers and phone orders. Its an indication of its popularity!

This is not a big place but they make very good cakes and pastries. I love their chocolate raspberry mouse. And you can order their custom cakes for events -- they have a pretty decent catalog of those.
