I wish I could say that it was consistently good. My friends and I came here for lunch and I had a Thai Salad that was delicious. It was so good that I decided to take my husband to dinner the following week. I was looking forward to a great meal! I ordered the same Thai Salad expecting the same great salad. What a disappointment! It was flat...I found out later that it didnt have the same ingredients as the previous salad I had. It was missing some greens and there was hardly any noodles in it. To their credit, they did not charge me for my food and was very apologetic. My husband enjoyed his food and thought it was good. But he did not like the ambiance of the place. It was too noisy. We couldnt have a conversation without raising our voices :-( It was a wednesday too not a weekend!

The host there (lady) should be definitely banned to work in any business, related to customer service. Me with my wife asked for a table on a patio, and she and her assistant told us that ALL tables already reserved and offer only 2 tables (with 2 chairs) by the entrance door. Three other empty tables nice located (with 4 chairs) were empty. We asked few times why we cannot sit there - there were NO "reserved" signs like on some other tables, but our request was refused. For almost 2 hours which we spent there, those 3 tables were empty - so host and her assistant just simply lied to us. Also Swordfish was extremely spicy and my wife asked to replace it with another fish. Very bad experience over all.

My first time at Café Cruz, and I was disappointed. The waiter was the problem, I noticed that he was wiping his mouth, on several occasions. I asked him to bring us more ketchup for my grandson, and he brought a very small amount of it. When he served my glass of wine, rather than serving it to the right of me, he reached in front of me to my right side. Very peculiar. We were going to order dessert, but he practically ignored us, help several large tables of people. I decided to leave at that point. The food, was not warm, and the calamari, looked like fast food rather than nice piece of calamari. I was offered a gift card, but never received it.

We go there for lunch often, and the menu is great and the food is very good....lots of salad selections, but a tad pricey. Went there the other day at about 2:35PM, and the owner said: "We just stopped serving lunch and were changing to our diner menu...itll be about 20 minutes" "Well, what ARE you serving right now?" "NOTHING, but youre welcome to sit at the bar and drink until we serve diner." Are you kidding me? I have never been in a restaurant that quits serving food to make a shift change! We left to go elsewhere. WTF Cmon, man!

I cant say enough good things about my first time at this establishment! First the service was one of the most enjoyable part of the evening, then the food started.....From the begining till the end was just one rewarding taste after another. Each of the courses was unique in taste and well portioned. I hate to recommend this place because it was already crowded enough. I would suggest reservation, we didnt have them but the four of us were seated quickly after a short wait....Ask for Jenna, all four of us just loved her.......

Ordered deep fried cajun Artichoke hearts which were only "so so." Skirt steak on top of "Texas toast" so so. Not cooked medium rare as instructed. The special...tacos al pastor was delicious. Cocktail was delicious! Bread and olive oil/ basalmic was delicious! Originally wanted the California sea bass which was a special but they ran out. Come early for the good specials. I would definitely paton this place again. We took a chance and parked in the Thunderbird real estate lot next door as it was after hours.

About a month ago I tried to make a reservation for the patio, which is beautiful. The lady who answered the phone said, "um no". I said, "because it is booked?" She said, "no because the weather was expected to not be very good". It was the rudeness and abruptness of her "um no" that threw me off. So I said I would think about an indoor reservation and call back. Anyway, turns out the weather was just fine that evening, typical Santa Cruz evening in May. We spent $400 at an expensive restaurant in Carmel.

Most of the time, food is very good. Sometimes a surprising disappointment. Wait person Lisa is amazing and perfect. Been there for years and always tending to us even when the place is packed and crazy. Used to drive over the hill for lunch but moved back here so frequent dining is enjoyed. Took an old pal recently for his birthday and he exclaimed it was the best restaurant he has ever experienced. Guy is well traveled and fussy so i was pleased. Thanks Lisa and Chef.

Best steak tacos ever! The steak was marinated and grilled perfectly. I did not have one piece of tough or chewy meat in either of the tacos. The fresh guacamole was also very good. The bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start the meal off was amazing. Loved everything. The only downside to the entire meal was that there was a hair in my soda cup after being refilled. It could have been mine. Not a big deal, I just did not drink it.

First time at Cafe Cruz. I liked the intimate atmosphere and outdoor option. They offered about 12 wines by the glass and a few decent beers. We really liked the polenta, spit garlic chicken and spare ribs. The onion rings were decent but cut really thin and needed a bit of salt. Veggies were plain Jane. Besides a loud table next to us, we enjoyed the service and experience. Prices are reasonable and wed definitely go back!

Good food, good ambience, good service...although our table was right in the busiest walkway in the restaurant on the tiniest table there- that didnt make for the most enjoyable evening (I get they want to squeeze as many in as possible, but some things are just not worth it; this may be one of them). I wish you could make reservations online (OpenTable would be great).

This is our favorite restaurant in Capitola. When you pull up, it seems like a strange location, but they have an amazing courtyard in the back with a fireplace. The food is consistently great and they have fantastic specials each night. Love their seafood choices. I highly recommend Cafe Cruz for a nice night out.

We enjoy the lunches here - while the burgers have seemed to become down-sized as of late, it seems to be the same story as other venues. The calamari sandwich is one of the best weve ever had, but occasionally it comes out greasier than it should. Great beers, often local. Nice date spot for dinner, too.

Born and raised in this area, i rely on Cafe Cruz as my favorite restaurant. Always great food, different specials every night and a great staff. It feels like family and is a cozy place in the winter or bright and airy in the summer. Cant go wrong when eating at Cafe Cruz any day of the week.
