Always liked dinning at Gyu-kaku But this location is not my favorite. The place was super crowded. They put us in a small table. We were a group of 5. The table was very small and the party next to us had way too many people so there chairs were close in our space. They were very loud. Probably the most loud people in the entire restaurant. We asked the waiter if we could get another table. He told us that if we wanted another table there would be a 30 min wait. We were hungry so we just stayed in our table. The food took forever to come. The waiter was not around for refills till the food came. He said he would be back when I told him I wanted to order more food. He didnt come back till we asked another person for our check. I get that a restaurant is busy that is a great thing. But they should make sure that they have enough staff to give decent service

So your going to a nice meal, and greeted by a very nice guy! yes were excited. there is a wait so we go to the bar where an younger guy rudely ignored our presence at the bar for a good 5 minutes while he chatted with friends. He greeted us with "what do you want" he then proceeded to ask us if we wanted the beers that we ordered because they were 7$ VERY RUDE. I have literally never had someone even on the street be as rude as he treated us. We got to our table and staff did not have our grill working correctly for 30 minutes after our food was out! Im sorry but if you are spending $125.00 on a meal there better be soy sauce on the table! but no! 2 empty bottles! and 2 customers lost. hopefully many more. If you want to spend lots of cash on small portions and horrible service, this is your place!

Ive been to Gyu-Kaku about three times in Sherman Oaks. The franchise originated in Japan (Ive been to the one in Osaka too), and it came to America about two years ago, where its now expanding to become the Benihana of Japanese BBQ. Overall, the food is pretty good, although probably nothing when compared to some elite Korean BBQ houses in K-Town. The taste is pretty solid and the sweet dipping sauces are interesting. But MANPUKU BBQ on Sawtelle is better than Gyu-Kaku in terms of taste and quality. Its just more delicious, and I recommend it over Gyu-Kaku. But if you havent already tried Gyu-Kaku, do so at least once. Its a fun dining experience, with good food and those occasional $1 beer nights.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ offers great fresh meat and fish. They offer fast impeccable service; amiable, competent and very attentive staff. Restaurants interior design reflect Japanese culture such as red lanterns and wooden cubicle dividers. It has a small bar while you wait for your name to be called. Average waiting time is 20-30 mins but its worth it. Parking is available. They have copious selection of food on the menu from 52 items to 34 items of all you can eat meat. Prices are relatively high avg $42/person. I highly recommend GKJ BBQ on Sherman Oak.

Raichelle is wonderful! I walked in at noon for lunch at the bar. I had never been there before but I will most definitely be back. Monday is all day happy hour!! Great prices. Really great food. The pork dumplings are awesome. Had a few cocktails and tried lots of things on the menu. Everything was great. But mostly I loved just chatting with Raichelle. She is so sweet and very attentive even though she was sleep deprived. You can tell she loves people. I cant wait to come back with friends and try the grill.

Dined here recently with a friend for lunch. First, our grill would not stay lit; four waitpersons lit it before they offered to move us to another table. The service was also poor. We ordered miso soups, and the waitress forgot them. The booth table set-up was awkward, no way to easily share sides and entrees. Be careful ordering the "garlic" dishes as they go overboard. There was so much garlic in the rice and asparagus, that it was virtually inedible.

Today I was assaulted by Gyu Kakus manager, literally jumped right in front of the restaurant. Ive been a returning customer for 8 years and never had service and food quality as bad as Van Nuys Gyu Kaku. Once Ive told this to the manager, he follows me outside to repeatedly punch and physically assault me. I advise no one to go to such a ghetto and unprofessional restaurant where they would hire a manager who would hit a customer.

Chain of Korean BBQ restaurants, but they have a happy hour that is amazing! I wouldnt go any other time. 5 beers for $10, discounts on appetizers and most meats. It can get pricey depending on how hungry you are, but the happy hour helps you try lots of things without breaking the bank. They also almost always have additional specials on a separate menu.

The food is fine i mean you cook it yourself, the happy hour is the only reason to go but the service is SOO AWFUL it negates the positives. I mean wow. They overserve people on alcohol so youve got loud drunk messes in this small space and to top it off the waiters are insanely rude to the sober normal customer. NEVER AGAIN.

Food great. Service so-so. All the parking taken up by $4 valet right in front of the restaurant. Waited over 10 minutes for the bill and they already added a 18% tip for their bad service. Asked for the manager who wouldnt come out to talk to me. Also got our order wrong and they didnt correct it.

Havent been here in years and I usually go to the one in wilshire. The food tastes exactly the same as when I use to get it which was a plus, consistency is key. I ordered the pork and finished it all with no leftovers. next time I will go back to try the cheese Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ.

I love this restaurant!! A place I always come to with the family. The best part about it all is that the service is amazing and you can make the food the way that YOU like it. So, never any complains or anything. Make it the perfect and original way as what you would think thatd be.

Idk, I went in expecting something like KBBQ where meat just keeps coming out but I guess I ordered the wrong thing. Our grill was getting super messy and the flame wasnt too strong.. Smores as a desert sounds kinda lazy to me but I guess theyre trying something new.

I like going to this place when I really dont want to cook or go far from my house. They have a handful of vegan options tofu dishes and really yummy drinks. The hostess are always so sweet I dont know about the bartenders though.
