After not visiting for many years (over 15), I had a craving for food that I had once enjoyed at the HQ. We arrived just as they were opening for dinner, and got seated pretty quickly. We ordered the smoked pork chops and Jacks pepper steak! HQ...does not disappoint! The food was served quickly, and perfectly done in every respect. These dishes have been on the HQ menu for years, and for very good reason: You cant find better examples anywhere. The smoked pork chops are absolutely the best Ive ever had anywhere (and Ive tried lots). Incredibly flavorful, tender, and served with a slightly tart dark apple sauce (served on the side), they simply melt in your mouth! And Jacks pepper steak...steak marinated in Jack Daniels, covered in peppercorns and a special sauce (I usually dont like sauces on a steak, but this is THE exception)...yummy. Perfecto! We had garlic mashed potatoes, a baked potato, and the Jacks came with a crazy-good shaved Brussel sprout and white onion side (not usually a Brussel sprout fan, but this was delish). Dessert was a three berry cobbler with ice cream...wow! Service was great (Thanks, Angelo)! A sumptuous dinner for two (no drinks...this time) under $70... This place rocks!

I was super disappointed in my last visit. We waited over 15 minutes to get a drink order in and it was not that busy. They were out of my first 2 wine choices. My medium rare steak was undercooked and I had to send it back. They took the steak away on a saucer and left my sides dripping in blood. I asked them to remove my dinner from the bill. Just gross. I later ate a salad at home. My boyfriends chicken was cold. The waiter had an attitude. He didnt deserve the 20% tip my too-nice-of-guy left him. I would have left him nothing and I am a generous tipper. We just got the feeling that the staff wanted to be anywhere but there. Pretty sad as it used to be one of the best places around to get a filet. I have had a better steak at Santa Cruz Diner. We are going to Monterey next time. It seems like I have been writing poor reviews for a lot of places lately. Step it up, people. We work hard for our money and do not mind dropping a bill on dinner, but dont leave us feeling ripped off.

Clean, good service, with a smile and a little pricey for some things and dont offer all a steakhouse would, but the food is good, local business, fresh , locally sourced food, most of all, being a small business is tough on any town right now,Hindquarters is a reasonable, nicely cooked and served and no feeling of being rushed or hovering waiting to get rid of you. I am disabled with an eating disorder,so to find a place that is something I can eat and enjoy, cant ask for better and no chain restaurants, support your local, small businesses & help keep us afloat when the tourists leave for season. Good job Hindquarter, you make Santa Cruz proud. My stomach is gurgling at thought of a thick juicy, just as I ordered, hunk,if meat! Real women arent afraid to eat a little meat at times.

I ordered a ribeye rare and my friend ordered it med rare. Hers came well done and mine was med well. We sent them back and the manager said "he cut into them and they were rare in the middle and he refused to cook another because he could not make them any rarer. He suggested the" hanger steak ". I used to be a butcher and I know that is not a usda cut and a long way from a ribeye. We agreed. The steaks were not even cooked this time. Like I pissed off the cook and he had a temper tantrum. I would not recommend this place at all. Hindquarter my ass!!!

If you want a consistently great experience at a local steak house, the Hindquarter is the place! My husband and I frequent this restaurant and have never been disappointed yet. The service is always exceptional. The owners are friendly and care about their patrons, stopping by our table to acknowledge our visits often. The food is fresh, hot and delivered without a long wait. Kudos to the chef, spot on every time! Thank you Hindquarter for being one of our favorite places. Trace and Kimber Russell

The Food here is Good and Hot, not too verly seasoned. The waitpersons personality was friendly & nice but was a bit unsure of the menu, maybe newly hired? Needless to say our meal was Good & Very well timed so our dinners came out appropriately after our appetizers were done so our entire meal was served Hot. We didnt feel rushed or have the feeling of being ignored at any time while there. Also just want to say "Good Job" to the new hire!

service was slow and waitress argued. first, the blackened salmon came completely overcooked and burnt all around. on the second try, it came "seared" and raw. since the fish was not sashimi grade, this is not something you want to risk. management realized the mistake and offered to waive the cost of the meal. my filet steak was soso and chewy at best. hope they get better. since food was crappy before, we are not going back.

The food was horrible. My wife sent her "medium" steak back because it was purple/raw in the center. The waitress rolled her eyes and acted like she was doing us a favor for "comping" her raw steak. My steak was cooked well but over seasoned and smothered in sauce (almost all of there steak selections are). The veggies were nothing but shredded cabbage. Fine except the meals are 35$ each. No value here. We wont be back.

Very underwhelming, we went for restaurant week, where I thought the chef would showcase his best dishes, Ive had better ribs at chilis. They tasted like they had been waiting all day for me to order them. Mashed potatoes were good but are hard to mess up, wifes steak was super chewy. friendly attentive waitstaff but the food was just not worth it.

This place is not very friendly, overpriced and poor food. If you have ever been to a decent or even mediocre steakhouse you will be very dissapointed with this place. Check your bill, they like to add items to your bill that you didnt order. Also, plan to be there a while. It will take some time for your food to get to the table.

I went & spent 100$ on a 9 oz steak and some noodles and O my god it sucked so bad. The serves was so bad it seemed to me no one wanted to be there working there. Very um professional. I had to beg for some more bread & water. What a joke this place is... I will never even think about going there ever again

Excellent option. We just passing the place and we looked up the reviews and we decided to try it. It was delicious and Kyle, the server, was very helpful and kind. The taste very natural and the meat was in perfect point, juicy and tender. Definitely we will come back.

We eat here quite a bit and are never are disappointed. The staff treats us like royalty. Always excellent service ( especially Chris the bartender) and the owners always come over and say hello. The Margarita Steak is my favorite and I promise you wont be dissatisfied.
