Whenever I describe this place to others, I always say "its kind of like a Yogurtland for beer"---you can select whatever beer you want, pour whatever amount you want, and they only charge you per ounce you pour. Their beer selection is overwhelming but incredible: a large variety of light, medium, and dark beers and even a few choices of ciders. They do a great job of switching up whats available depending on the season, so you can usually find something exciting and different each time. Definitely bring a group of friends to this place!

This place rocks! Its a self-pour tap room that has a large variety of beers. From light to dark, including sours, Belgians, stouts and IPAs. They even had a wine section but I didnt even bother looking at the options (Im a beer guy). Its a wide open area with high top seating as well as regular tables. Food window in the back and an overall good vibe. Highly recommend this place for people who are curious and want to explore their palate. This isnt your neighborhood bar to just get wasted.

Very interesting place. They give you an electronic ID when you arrive. It is linked to your credit card in their computer. There are 40-50 taps along one wall. The taps are organized by type of beer. If you want to try a beer, you just hold you electronic ID up to a "reader" by the tap. It recognizes you and allows you to poor yourself as much of that beer as you want. You are charged by the ounce. We really enjoyed this place and met a number of nice people there.

Great concept, good selection in beer/cider. Very easy to spend a lot of money though without thinking. Also the auto checkout feature is slightly annoying - an automatic 20% tip on beer tabs. Whilst I appreciate the super friendly staff not much happens, you pour your own beer. Maybe two systems (one for when you only order drinks and no staff involvement) and one when food is ordered may be slightly more efficient. Place is kept clean and tidy, and lots of seating.

This place is the Yogurtland of beer! You get a little bracelet that allows you to pour just a few ounces of all of the 30 or so beers on tap. You get to sample all kinds of craft Brews from IPAS, belgians, lages, etcetera. It is picnic table style eating with good German eats being served from the kitchen. The atmosphere is communal and friendly with kids and families and definitely a lot of young people on weekend nights. A great addition to downtown Santa Cruz!

Absolutely amazing. Im a local and come here, well more then I should probably. The staff is always friendly, especially (I wish I knew his name) but he has a big beard and is always wearing a hat... hes the best and treats me like a friend now. The beer that they have on tap has something for literally everyone including having taps of the amazing local brewerys we have in town. Its like youre going to a brewery crawl except you stay in the same building.

Its a cool concept, but both times I have gone there, Ive been unhappy with how high the bill was. I feel that getting a few craft beers at any of the other local bars would cost much less, and you actually get served. I also think its kind of BS that they tack on an automatic service charge when youre providing your own service. A neat place to go, if you want to try a variety of original beers, but not worth the price IMO. Didnt try the food.

This existed in San Francisco. Concept would do really well. Youre given an RFID bracelet and are able to pour as little or as much beer as you like. There are hundreds of options and you can try beers youve always wanted to without buying a full pint. The owner was exceedingly nice and stayed late chatted. The clientele are a but more tech-bro than I expected, but Ill definitely come back anyway if Im in Santa Cruz again.

Brilliant idea! You are given a wristband and allowed to pour your own drinks on tap. The wristband keeps track of how many ounces of each drink you have and you simply pay on your way out for how much you drink! They had a wonderful selection of beer, wine and ciders (my personal fav was the Apple Peach Cider). If you are in the area, I definitely recommend trying it out.

One of the most unique experiences I have had, my first with beer. Love the techie part of having a wristband that you tap against the drink you want and it counts how much you have accumulated over the night. I have taken a few new friends here just because its a really good atmosphere. And once you get past the prices of the food, its really good food.

Great place with a great selection of beers wines and ciders. Its neat to be able to pour and taste whatever you want! One downside though is the mandatory 16% service fee on your bill and the lack of seating since the place is usually packed. All said and done though, Id come back in a heartbeat, so Ill give it the full 5 stars!

This place was a treat! With over 30 beers and ciders on tap - measures by pour volume - you really get to try a variety of beers at an affordable cost while discovering what you like - and dont. There a wide variety of ales, IPAs, wheat beers, etc. The food is also great and very cutting edge. Highly recommend going here.

The concept is genius: self service tap room. There is spontaneous community that forms around the taps as complete strangers make recommendations as you browse that days selection. Ive made friends for the night by standing in front of the sour section and having someone demand I try this or that beer.

A must go when in Santa Cruz. Met the owner briefly outside, incredible passionate about great beer and great food also. The beer selection was amazing. love the wrist bands, so cool all the beers have 3 sizes, it was like a beer buffet. Everyone was just super nice. A must go. Please come to SF next.

Came in from a Google maps recommendation - this place is pretty cool. Very nice staff - people sometimes congregate around the taps, but it goes smoothly otherwise. 70 taps between beer and wine so there is quite a lot to choose from. Reasonable prices for the beer and the food, you cant go wrong.

Amazing. Any kind or beer you could think of, tons of options. Very relaxed place, not the usual rushed feeling, I feel like I could hang out there all day! At least 60 beers on tap. If your not feeling beer they also have wine and hard ciders.

The concept is awesome but it was way too loud, I couldnt hear and of my friends. There wasnt music playing it was because there was nothing on the walls, it was basically a big empty box, to the echos of everyone were very loud.

Very nice place when you want to try different beers in a short time. You get a bracelet which keeps track of what you drink and you pay at checkout the ounces you consumed. Atmosphere could be nicer. Its a little bit sterile.

This is precisely how a taproom should be. Relaxed, mellow, with a huge tap selection, and the ability to try a wide range of beer styles without feeling guilty. They really need to open a place like this in San Jose.
