Food is good here! I personally like the double salmon roll. They have the meanest looking chirashi bowl that will satisfy any appetite. The problem I have is the 2 guys that work here. Grouchy overworked servers will take your order and give you an attitude if you have a question. Im sure its something that they answered a million times that day, but we are customers that technically pays you. I see this in the older (manager?) and younger short stalky guy with glasses. Just a tip! If you dont like your job, just leave or you will be more miserable each day. Give your job to someone else that would like to earn a paycheck. Theres a young tall guy with glasses have excellent communication skills and exhibits great service. The girl that brings out the tea to you is great and very attentive. Her and the guy that has bad English that sometimes take our orders makes the service overall of the place bearable.

I love this place. I feel like this place gives you the best bargain for your buck! Ive come here many times, especially if I am ordering T-Pump next door too. Ive had lunch and dinner here. The dinner combo is a great deal. You get tons of food for the costs. They raised their prices on the combo recently by like $3. But if you get the sashimi and roll, its still a great deal. I had the No. 1 roll, No. 3 roll (wrapped in cucumber - no rice) - These are huge rolls! You can only really eat 2-3 pieces and get full off of this! The fish here is really fresh and they are skimpy at all with the portion. Ive been going here for the last 2 years and the food has been very consistent. There is generally a wait during dinner time, to go-orders are good, and especially if you call it in, or order than go wait at T-pump for your boba drinks!

I either crave high end sushi or low end joints with large and cheap rolls, so Ive had plenty of spicy tuna rolls in my life, but this one tasted a bit off. Despite being enormous for only $4.99 (yet not the cheapest for this dish in San Mateo though), the spicy sauce just tasted strange, and not sure if it was because of old fish. The two other fried rolls I ordered were terrible (one was the Dynamite), as all the fish inside were fully cooked and dried out. The giant teriyaki bento boxes I saw other people ordering seemed like a good deal for $6.95, so I may avoid their fish altogether next time if I return. I think this may be a spillover spot for the youth hanging out next door at Tpumps. Takes credit, heard the staff speak some regional dialect of Chinese to each other.

The quality of the fish is relatively good (hit & miss)... aside from the uni and saba which stood out as being quite poor. Uni was dark and pungent. Saba was watery and flavorless like itd been thawed one too many times. The nigiri is so huge it its impossible to enjoy as meant to be. Rice was massive and firm, no air. Rice vinegar is also on the sweeter side. The Ikura is not marinated so it has a very strong roe flavor instead of something more delicate and subtle. Tuna (maguro) sashimi not bad, good quality. Although not a portion I would choose for sashimi, it had a bit of sinew. The unagi was surprisingly very good. A simple eel avo roll was quite good. Staff was attentive. Im sure as a "roll place" this spot isnt bad. Definitely NOT a nigiri spot.

My boyfriend and I grabbed a quick lunch here. It was about 2pm and a lot of places were closing, so we settled here. We both got sushi lunch specials, about $12/per. He got the nigiri and I got the rolls. Both portions were HUGE and neither one of us finished them. The spicy tuna roll that came with the nigiri was awesome. The nigiri was also large portions and the fish looked great. My lunch rolls were a tuna roll and california roll, both good, and some sort of fried roll doused in spicy mayo and hot sauce. Normally I love flash fried rolls, but this one may have been in too long since the fish inside was cooked through. That was the only downfall and it still tasted delicious. If we are in the area again, I would definitely go back.

This is my go to sushi place when Im craving sushi. The prices are excellent, and the portion sizes are large. My husband and I usually split the dinner special and an extra roll. With that, our bill is typically under $35 total. It is definitely a place where you want to share your order. I would recommend ordering the Number One Roll if you are ok with mild spice. The restaurant does not seat many tables, so wait times can be pretty long. On weekends and Fridays, it is not uncommon to wait more than an hour for a table. There is a Philz coffee across the street, so we will usually put our names down and wait there. The service is ok, but the food more than makes up for it.

A friend told me abut this place so I figured I would give it a shot. The waiter was very impatient and stood at the end of the sushi bar clicking his pen starring at me the entire time. When I called him over I told him what I wanted and he just blankly looked at me. I had to open the menu and point at the selection before he wrote it down. When the rolls came out the one with cucumber skin as a wrap was drenched in vinegar and the breaded shrimp was just soggy. It also left a weird taste with the crab in the roll. The second roll was a rainbow roll and the fish was super fishy so it wasnt fresh at all. Even after I left the restaurant all I could smell was the fish for a half hour.

This is a small sushi restaurant that serves amazingly generous portions. (I recommend getting a 3 piece dinner to share with someone. Great pricing for lots of great sushi) The wait time to get in was under an hour but the shop is so small that most people waiting were crowded in the tiny lobby area to keep out of the cold. Waiting was definitely worth it since the food was so good. The rolls are decorated very well and fish is just piled on top. One dinner combo can easily feed two people. We paid about 60 dollars before tip for two dinners and an extra roll. Dont be afraid to be adventurous as we sampled several things on the menu and we all found them to be very delicious.

I love Old town sushi, from the name itself to the variety and quality of sushi/bento plates they offer. -.5☆ for the service, theyre almost always busy so its hard to get good service. Even on slower day, a lot of the staff just seem to be in a rush. But they do always get the orders right. -1.5☆ because theyre not a kid friendly place. Not sure if they even have booster/high chairs since I wasnt offered one for my 1yr old. After she got a little fussy the service just stopped all together. We spent the last 20+ minutes with no water refill or check-ups. My husband eventually went up to the kitchen to get the check and boxes. Its best to come when you know youll have a sitter.
