The first time I went to this place was about almost a year ago and I vaguely remember it as pretty good but it was also one of the first burger places I have tried in the East Bay. After trying other burger places I decided to come back here to see if it was as good as the first time I tried it. The people at the counter were super friendly and patient while I looked over the menu. They were also busy keeping the place in shape and taking over-the-phone orders. I ended up ordering a double cheeseburger with grilled onions and seasoned criss-cut fries to go. It didnt take long before my order was ready to go and I can tell for almost $15 you get your moneys worth. It was a huge order of fries which were seasoned perfectly, however greasy which I turned a blind eye to. The burger waited until I got home and it was this massive piece of burger. The first bite was like an in-your-face burger, it was huge. Then there was the second and third bite which were not as fulfilling compared to the first bite. The burger was well-over done, the onions were bland, and the burger overall was greasy which upstaged the lack of seasoning. There was taste, not as significant as I can recall. The fries were the turning point, they were so delicious and there was enough food to share between two people. The Original Red Onion is a nice place to try out and if youre not into the savory they do sell sweets. Its also located in a very small and narrow plaza so parking can be difficult. Original Red Onion serves its locals and its convenient due to its location, however if you dont mind trekking a few more miles south then skip this place.

We dined here tonight and I ordered a stuffed potato and saw the waitress heat up two russet potatoes with cheese and steak over the top. No toppings that its supposed to have came with my potato and after asking for the toppings and only got one I had to ask again for the rest and even then I had all but one and I wasnt asking again for anything. (Sour cream, green onion and bacon) The result was more of a loaded baked potato and sucked. a STUFFED potato should mean you take the insides out, mix up the insides with your toppings and I mean you really pack in the flavor and put it back into the skin, throw some cheese over the top and bake it, heck Id even top with sour cream and chives and a bit unmelted cheese but hey, thats just me. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their burgers even though one had to be remade because mayo isnt actually tasty to some. Oh yeah and a babys grilled cheese came about 15 minutes after everyone received their food. The chef was rude to the two waitresses which one looked as though she held the place together (a blonde) and the other looked like every other teenager who wants nice things but has to work and would only do the minimum anyways. With that being said, I gave it three stars because its an overall experience and not just my opinion matters. I will not be dining here again. Maybe Ill try take out, hate giving up on a local business.

Lots of choice in meals, including a variety of burger combinations. My favorite is the cheese lovers, with three helpings of your choice of cheeses. They trust their meat, so I can get it medium rare, unlike with the cheap chains. I also like their fish and chips. Tartar sauce and malt vinegar available. Fries are the big fat ones, but you can also get sweet potato fries. Theyll double-fry them on request. I usually get a half-and-half of fat fries and onion rings. Good breakfast menu. I often get French toast or pancakes on a weekend morning. Finish your meal with a choice from their big dessert menu. Check out the choices in the big display case as you enter. This place is a favorite of the local high school, so expect it to be busy in the morning and when school lets out.

The waitress at the Red Onion is the most lackadaisical and horribly indifferent person Ive ever encountered. The place wasnt busy, maybe 5 tables were occupied. I ordered a simple meal - Burger, no mayo & Onion rings, my friend ordered the fish and chips. My friend was done with his fish and chips by the time the burger came out - with mayo on it. The onion rings never made it to the table, the waitress didnt care or acknowledge that they screwed up and none of the other employees cared that an order was incomplete and wrong; nor did they do anything about it. And on top of the order being incomplete and wrong, the food was nasty; it is no better than McDonalds.

The food was ok except the burger i ordered had no salt and the fries had a eyelash hair on it it was very expensive and the restaurant was very messy and one of the ladies that work there i think a cook was rude to me just because there was nobody at the register and i needed to pay allready so i went up to her and told her and she said oh u need to go to the register she was rude the way she said it i recomend the red onion in el cerrito 10X better!

The Red Onion has only needed two menu changes in over 25 years. Fry baskets are done in 50/50 Grapeseed and Peanut oil: very healthy and tasty. Overall, best burgers in the county and the ownership and staff continually evaluates feedback in order to retain a menu of the customer, for the customer, and by the customer. As a recent modern addition, select Ethnic-American lunch and dinner; expanded home style diner breakfast.

Got my order wrong 3 times, and the cook was very rude despite her not doing her job correctly. I left without even them getting my order right. The food also gets more and more expensive. Youd think for how much you pay they would at least get it right. Thia isnt the first time Ive been sassed by the staff for their mistakes either. It sucks because the food is good when they do get it right. But I guess that rarely happens.

I really love this place. As a student currently at Pinole Valley High School, I love how its close to the school so before or after school, I can get a quick bite to eat. The staff are amazing as they ask how is your food and always make sure that your water is filled up or making sure that you get your order as quick as possible. I highly recommend Red Onion as it has great quality food and is big in servings also.

Ordered garlic fries which was the second mistake, the first mistake was going there. Parm and garlic just on top of the undercooked fries. The burgers are huge, but when you take off the lettuce theyre the size of In & Outs burger, but even those are tastier . 3 bucks for a coke which is really highway robbery. People seem to like this place, I guess theyve never been to Red Rock Cafe in Napa.

Not going to be much of a review but this place is not what I remembered it to be. I wentered here to have breakfast but left due to them having so many flies inside of the seating area. There was a man trying swat them away from his food as we sat down, long story short, we didnt order any food and I told the server we were leaving because the place was in need of a fly remediation asap.
