When you first experience Carmines you may think that you are one of the first to discover this little hidden gem tucked back in a corner of Riverside... until you see all the rave reviews on Yelp and realize that you may be the only person who HASNT been going there for years! Ive recently been trying to correct this error. My coworkers and I have been going to Carmines almost every Thursday evening now for a few months. Weve made our way around to most of the hip food stops in the area but its really hard to pull ourselves away from Carmines now that weve discovered it. Its hard to beat incredible, fresh, hot pizza, especially when it is at these super cheap prices! Our routine is pretty much the same every time we go: grab a table outside, Phineas comes and shoots the breeze with us for a minute (and he remembers our drinks every time), and we each order 2 slices of the New York thin crust pizza. There are a ton of mouth-watering options on the menu that I keep telling myself to try but its hard to stray from the cheesy goodness of those slices, especially when they only cost like $2.50/slice for a piece thats enough to stuff a grown man. I usually get a bit crazy with my topping choices and have never been disappointed but my friends always get pepperoni and mushroom, which I can also highly recommend. The best thing about Carmines is that it is one of those places where you just feel like you belong - like the bar on Cheers, "where everyone knows your name". Of course, not everyone knows my name here, only Phineas, but it still feels like they would if I wanted them to. I cant recommend this place highly enough. Its one of those community businesses that is popular for good reason. Once you try it, youll go back time and time again!

Upon entering for Sunday lunch we were very happy with the atmosphere and were seated immediately. Went down hill from there. Our drink order was taken as we were told our waitress would be with us momentarily. The same person brought our drinks a few minutes later, still no waitress. 20 minutes after that we finally met our less than compitent waitress. We ordered the Greek Island Salad and a Large Cheese Pizza. The first thing I noticed about the salad was it was missing the Greek Peppers and was mostly lettuce which I was not expecting for $8.50. I asked the waitress about the peppers. She went to the kitchen only to return to say they were out. I would have liked to been informed of that when I ordered. Perhaps I would have chosen a different salad. I feel they should have offered a discount on the salad as it was missing an ingredient. Other than that it was just ok. The Cheese Pizza $15, which I admittedly had high expectations for was another disappointment. I have never been a fan of Corn Meal dusting the crust (like Dominos) and it was overcooked to the point that large areas of the bottom were dark brown and black. I do not like to and I did not complain as I am not looking to get a free meal. However, at this price point I expect quality, which I did not receive. We will NOT be back.

The real deal! Every so often you find a place that really gets you excited about eating out - and THIS is that place. Take a look at the menu and if that doesnt get your tastebuds revd up you might want to consider getting a new tongue. The food is fantastic - all of it - every last damn stuff-it-in-yer-mouth-so-it-doesnt-go-to-waste morsel of it! Pizza, wings, mac and cheese in ways you didnt even know mac and cheese could do it - all of it - you will not be let down. Its not just the food either. Its the people - real people. Youre not going to find any prissy waitresses or waiters here - nope - these are genuine people. They treat you like your best friends do when they invite you for a special meal. I went for a take-out pizza but saw the "Chicago Beef" sign and had to have one before leaving. Everything about it was right; the bun was right, the beef was right, the seasoning, the way the juice soaked the bun - all of it - just right. Take a bite, close your eyes and suddenly you can hear the Loop running overhead, the cheers from Soldiers Field and the wind coming off the Lake. Go to Carmines Pie House, have a beer, relax, and let yourself get excited about eating some of the best damn food Chicago has to offer - right here in Jacksonville.

We decided to have dinner here because of the great reviews on Google but we did not have a great experience. We were sat at a small table for two that had just enough room for 2 plates and your drinks. When our pizza came out we expressed to the Women named Tori that we needed somewhere to set the pizza, and she told us to put our plates under the pizza like it was an umbrella. We asked if we could get a table pushed over to put the pizza on and she told us no that she could not do that. Then she told us if we had a "PROBLEM"(with an attitude) she would move us to a different table. She was not friendly with us. After we moved to a new table a young lady named Ashley was greeting her new table next to us and answering questions they had regarding the menu and Tori yelled across the restaurant that she needed to not stand around there is plenty of things that need to be done. Which was very rude to Ashley and the customers that she was assisting. Ashley is doing a great job, and engaged with the customers and was going into depth about the menu. Tori however needs an attitude adjustment. Also, Rebecca was our waitress and she did a fabulous job. The pizza was also really tasty.

Weve been multiple times and I rated it 5 stars every time until our last experience so this is an average rating for our 3 visits. Thank god we had Natalia the first two times because she was amazing. We loved her and tipped her very well but last time we had a girl named Isis as our waitress.... Not friendly at all. We would say thank you and she would just turn her back to us without a word. She had zero personality and hovered over us the entire time, and not in a good way. I never avoid wait staff but every time we go from now on Id rather wait an extra 30 minutes to not sit in her section. We all said if she was our first waitress we would have never went back. Idk what her deal was but she was not friendly.

Will never go back. We recently moved about two blocks away and wanted to give this restaurant a try. Walked in to place a pick up order. No one helped me for over 10 minutes. I just stood there. After flagging down a waitress she started ringing up my order. We wanted $40 worth of wings but we wanted to split the wings into two different flavors. No go. They stated they dont do that. What wing place doesnt split flavors? Very rude, obviously dont care about pick up orders. By the way - we tip very good even though we are picking up, and we could have been very good customers since we live two blocks away. Well stick with Kickbacks and The Blind Rabbit from now on.
