This place is designed for catering and to-go food, not dine-in eating. The seating feels exposed because of the high ceiling. The place is essentially a warehouse with 80% of the space used for the kitchen. My friend and I ordered the pork dumplings, light stir fry with beef, and orange sesame chicken. The food was good, but not great. The orange flavor in the chicken seemed like it came from the peel. It was noticeably and uncomfortably bitter. The chicken itself wasnt as juicy or flavorful as Ive come to expect from Asian restaurants. The light stir fry was extremely light. Not very interesting. The dumplings were okay. Perhaps the food is more "authentic" than what Im used to. I dont think I would go back. Service was excellent though.

Order online thru the Yelp app and the estimated time was 10-35 mins. I gave it 20 mins and my food was done and waiting. First time here and the staff was extremely friendly and personable. Immediately sparked a conversation with me and my child. I came in about ten mins before they closed and didnt feel like I was being rushed, there were customers still sitting and eating watching the Warriors game. I returned with a co-worker and my son to dine in and the staff was extremely welcoming again. Continued to check on us throughout the meal and has no issues bringing out the extra we added to our meal after already being served. Service was fast and friendly like when I came in to pick up a to go order.

I order food from there usually weekly. Take out and eat in sometimes. They have a simple but excellent menu and great service. When I call and get take out they say "thank you 10 minutes" and it literally takes 8 minutes. They are fast and recognize their returning customers with a smile and great food. Speaking of the food, it is some of the best in the area, all of san mateo and the Peninsula in my opinion. Go here if you are in the area... or call before you leave work and it will be ready and hot the minute you arrive.

Kung Pao special ordered with shrimp and scallops, killer. Crunch!-carrots and peppers. Peanuts and chilis and spicy stuff - the sauce was SO good with the steamed rice. Hot sour soup was the kind you geek out on, you know how some places make it with some kind of disgusting thickener and also it can have an off taste? Well not at Hot Wok, it was just right, crunchy things and peppery and fresh tasting broth. Delicious. I walked away with that indescribable feeling of satisfaction.

Some of the BEST Chinese food Ive ever had. The Kung Pao Shrimp is a must. They prepare it a special way, and its delicious. The Tan Tan noodles are a little on the spicy side, but oh sooo good. This place is tucked inside a little neighborhood, and if you didnt know, you would pass right by. What a little treasure.

Hot Woks simple menu probably helps them do a few things really well. The Kung Pao Tofu with mixed vegetables was delicious accompanied with brown rice. It also inspires confidence to see them cook everything; the kitchen is completely open to the dining area. Odd location, but a great value.

Unbelievable food and incredible value. Its small, charming, and the food is second to none. Joyce, Tim, and Nick are the mainstays and make you feel at home. No liquor license (yet) but they let you bring your own. No corkage or handling fee. The real deal.

First time coming was for my dads birthday. Great food and friendly staff. They heard it was my dads birthday and they came out with a plate of orange slices and candles. The food was soo good came back for takeout two days later.
