Bento boxes are perfect for lunch! Its nice to see a place that specializes in bento box lunches :) Its a quick, easy, and a delicious meal! This place is super efficient, they take your order while youre waiting in line so when you reach the cashier all you have to do is pay. It makes ordering so much faster and less of a pain. You also get your food relatively fast (5-10 minutes) and they bring it to you if youre dining in. The prices of each bento box varies but its decent. I would say its on the cheaper side, you can get away for most of the bento box meals for about less than $10 dollars (: They have so much variety too! you can mix and match anything basically! Their food was YUMMY! I decided to get the shrimp tempura and katsu together. It wasnt listed as a combo on the menu but they let you mix and match whatever you want. It was $8.50 and it was definitely worth it! Their portions are pretty big! it comes with rice, salad, and this weird corn meal mash potato looking thing (dont know what it is but it was interesting). I thought the shrimp tempura was good but i really liked their katsu. It was crispy and tender (: Next time I want to try their katsu curry because that looked delicious. Definitely would love to come back here again! just a warning though, the lunch crowd is pretty big so come early, before noon! so you can get seating and PARKING. You can easily miss this place, they have parking in the back of the restaurant!

Very affordable and delicious. The portions are huge as well. I got the tonkatsu and my husband got a combo plate with tonkatsu and chicken teriyaki. I really enjoyed the tonkatsu. While it didnt taste exactly like what Ive had in Japan (not that I was expecting it to!) it was delicious in its own right. I would definitely get it again. The sticky rice was good as well but not the best Ive had. I think it wasnt cooked exactly right as it was just a teensy bit mushy. Not much, mind you, but just enough that I noticed a difference in texture from what I expected. Im sure it was just a batch that maybe hadnt been rinsed enough that day or something. The staff were courteous and friendly. I will definitely go back to try the other food.

If you love cooked Japanese food (ie. teriyaki, pork cutlet, tempura, udon), Gombei Bento is the place for you! Having been to the Gombei in its original (San Jose), and expansion (Menlo Park and Sunnyvale) locations, this Gombei Bento location is able to hold its own with regard to food quality, efficiency, and value. The quality of the food is on par with the equivalent dishes at the original locations at 30-40% lower prices. While the menu is a little limited in its breadth, the dishes that Gombei Bento serves are top notch. While I believe you cant go wrong with any of the dishes offered, I recommend Combo #1 (chicken teriyaki, pork cutlet, and fried rice), or #11 (Katsudon).

Came here on a Friday evening, and the place was rather empty. So there was no wait to order! I got the chicken teriyaki (it was so cheap! $7.75 in Nov. 2016). It came with rice and salad so this was a complete meal. The chicken was a little dry but not too noticeable. The teriyaki sauce was pretty good, but there wasnt enough of it! My friends and I also shared the fried tofu and wow that was delicious. The tofu was soft and fresh, and the sauce they put over the fried tofu made it very savory. I would highly recommend the fried tofu, since their tofu is made in house. Overall great place for a fast and cheap meal while not sacrificing quality.

Great food and great service at a fair price. Youll be hard pressed to find a better overall value than Gombei Bento whether youre looking for a lunch during the work week or a dinner out. The staff are friendly and focused. This location happens to be where tofu is made. From what I understand they distribute to the other Gombei restaurants in the area. The soups cannot be ordered to go. The salmon fillets tend to vary in size, but are always cooked and glazed (teriyaki) perfectly.

If you are craving a good, simple Japanese lunchbox, you have found your new favorite place. Simple and delicious is how I would describe this place. The prices are fair, the food is good, and the service is incredibly friendly and helpful. I got the #8 which was salmon teriyaki with shrimp tempura and I was a big fan. I will definitely be back for it. Im happy I just bought a house near here since I will likely become a frequent visitor. :)

Great portions, good service, and overall a really good place for your money. Theyre my one of my favorite restaurants near where I am, but theyre only open on weekdays (which, working 8+ hours a day in another town, I cant really work with since I get home too late for their hours). Their hours are the only downside I can think of- the tea is good, the tofu is great, and their pork katsu is definitely what Id expect at a good Japanese eatery.

Portions are great but the Gombei restaurant in Menlo Park has so much better tasting food. The fried shrimp tempura here had bland batter. Chicken was a little overcooked and there wasnt enough teriyaki sauce. The rice was amazing though which was great. You are definitely paying for what you get here. But if you save a few more dollars, go to the Menlo Park location for an overall better flavor.

Best value Japanese food ever. They make all of their own soy based products in house: tofu, soy milk, etc. You get a little dollop of the tofu byproduct with most orders. Its apparently a very old school japanese thing to do. Everything is pretty good. Ive had one bad experience with the mackerel.

This is in my top five for great food in the South Bay. The portions are large, and everyone (literally) working there is kind, friendly, and generous. If youve never had Gombei Bento, or are afraid of trying Japanese food, you owe it to yourself to give these guys a try.

Ive tried almost all the popular South Indian restaurants in the area and Madras Cafe is absolutely my favorite. The food has always been fresh and hot. Their service is quick no matter the time of day. Expect wait times during peak dinner hours especially on weekends.

I got #18 with tempura shrimp. The shrimp was great and cooked perfectly (though I could have used just one more!) My husband got the ramen and said it was really good too. Well definitely be going back! Just wish their hours were a bit more accessible

Great service with very friendly staff. Had the child bukake udon which is a very savory and refreshing warm weather meal. Their house made tofu is also great. Asahi beer on tap is good. Portions are very generous for the price.

Great bento spot for weekday lunches. Gets busy around noon though. Generous portions and very high quality food. Large menu with lots of bento staples including teriyaki chicken/beef/salmon, curry, udon and tempura shrimp.

Food was mediocre. Salad was too watery and teriyaki chicken was bland and dry. Rice was ok. Portion was big. Ended up throwing away more than half because it was not appetizing or tasteful. Unlikely to go back.
