SO, i like this place better than San Tung and here is why. Now before you start hating on this review let me say that i went to ST yesterday and SO today so my memory is still good. I ordered the same wings and calamari from both places. I like the fact that SO does not drench their wings in sauce. Let me add that their sauce is much thinner and they probably do a quick tossing with the wings and sauce in the bowl. Sorta like how wing stop does it. Overall the taste is very similar you get the sweet and spicy taste that both places are known for. Another reason why i dont like about ST is since their is so much sauce. after a while it gets sticky like caramel. SO wings are also not as sweet, which i like. A order of wings here cost $6 vs $10 at ST. I think they give enough for two people share and of course you order it with something else. ST gives you a lot more wings, but a lot of it gets cold and sticky when you want to taste something else on the menu. Calamari taste way better here. Very similar preparation again, except here it was nice and crispy. Again they did not trench it with sauce, so you can taste the actual calamari. SO version is way better prepared than ST. So i was told that the owners of SO and ST are related, probably explains why they have similar dishes. For me i like i like SO better because the taste was a lot more refined and i might even say classier. Versus ST which is something a a little bit more traditional at a Chinese restaurant, where its more fast served, oiler, saucier and sometimes people like that more. You cant go wrong with either one, SO I picked SO...

OMG!!!! Have I really found chicken wings better than San Tung?? I THINK SO. I have been waiting to try this place for the longest time... especially since the first time I came, it was closed for a holiday weekend, and the 2nd time I came, the restaurant had closed early due to the chef not feeling well (what?? oh well..) I came here on a rainy Friday night with two other friends. The wait wasnt too bad since we came near closing time and the waiters were thoughtful enough to give us the menu beforehand so we could order without having to wait too long. We ended up ordering the chicken wings (of course), SO black bean noodle, and the green beans. I wanted to compare the food to what I usually order at San Tung, and I did just that! The portions at SO are definitely smaller than the portions at San Tung but it was still a generally pleasant meal. The chicken wings are different from San Tungs- there is more of a white pepper taste and an even more dry fried taste to the wings. The SO black bean sauce noodle was spicy; I especially loved how there were cucumbers and eggs in the noodle, not just plain black bean sauce and noodle. The green beans were alright, not bad but not special. I just love ordering this dish everywhere I go so it was a must. The wings definitely stood out the most to me in this meal and I am definitely down to come again! Especially since the wait at San Tung makes my stomach sad. Each restaurant has their own versions of wings and I am glad SO did not disappoint! Highly recommended.

The wings are JUST. SO. GOOD. So, so, so good. I havent tried all the Chinese wing places in San Francisco, but honestly... I feel I can stop at SO. Tiny, a little bigger than a whole in the wall, this place is my favorite place for wings. If you come, you MUST get the wings. They are crispy, a little sweet, garlicky, spicy. Be prepared for sticky fingers and a runny nose. The best place to enjoy these would probably be in the comfort of your own home, where you could wash your hands when you needed to blow your nose, or just go savage and get messy... but I am getting off topic a little... the wings arent as good by the time you get them home (trust me, Ive tried)... The Chipotle Fried Rice is delicious, smokey, a little spicy, savory (my favorite of all of their fried rices). The String Beans are good. Dumplings have all been good. The service is always friendly, its a small place and Ive seen the same friendly faces over the past year every time I come in. PRO-tip, call ahead to make sure theyre open (Ive come by expressly to get lunch during their normal business hours and theyve been closed with a funny note in the window, I was a SO sad panda). You can also order your wings if youre nearby, and theyll be ready when you get there (piping hot and delish).

If You Have Food Allergies this is not the best place to go, I told the Cashier No Onions Im allergic he said ok and everything seemed fine. later I get my food pay and check the food cus I always do this just incase I have to tell them again in the restaurant . I saw no onions and ate some took it outside so I can eat it on a bench(was waiting for art gallery to open) when I start eating more I realise there are alot of onions at the bottom hidden very well under the meat like they heard what I said but where too rude to care .I have no idea if they treated me like this cus Im a young women who looks like teenager or what... I have acid reflux to the point I had to be taken to the hospital I always keep something so I dont get very sick when this kinda stuff happens I just fear what will happen to them when they have a costumer that can be killed by a food allergy and not just have a reaction where it feels like your dieing . They seemed nice but that is just rude I was not a jerk to them and just expected better

My boyfriend and I ordered take out from SO last night after hearing great things about their wings. We called in an order around 7pm and were told that our food would be ready in 15 minutes. We ordered wings, calamari, dried sautéed string beans, and chipotle sausage fried rice. The chicken wings were crisper, spicier, and not as saucy or sweet as San Tungs chicken wings, but still really good. The calamari came in big chunks with a batter and sauce similar to that of their chicken wings. I would pass on these if youre planning on getting the wings. The string beans were also really good and tasted like they were from an authentic Chinese restaurant. The chipotle sausage fried rice was also another good dish, but very spicy with jalapeno peppers pieces and black pepper in the fried rice. I had to drink a lot of water with my meal, but that was a given seeing how they publicly announce they use MSG. Overall, a pretty good place to grab Chinese food especially when Im too lazy to make a trip to San Tungs.

I had to eat every single yelpy thing here. I came here at 8pm on a Friday and it was surprisingly empty. I was like dafaq? Ive heard this place is small and the wait is super long but I didnt realize the crowds coming more toward 8:30-9pm. Our table of six sat down and ordered all the goods. 1) Curry Coroque- This was a basic fried thing with curry inside. Basic and I would pass 2) Fried Rice- This was delicious! Get it. Super flavorful although a overly salty but packed with flavor and meat. 3) Green Beans- They were aite. Nothing crazy but I guess if you want veggies, get it. 4) Black Bean Noodles- Hmm everyone goes crazy over these but I thought they were quite flavorless..bloop. 5) Chicken wings- two orders was good enough for the six of us. Man these are good! I can taste some pepper and the flavored glaze. Must. Get. The must haves were the fried rice and chicken wings imo.
