Did someone say Dim Sum?! Lets meet at New Asia! Ive been told that this place is a bit touristy but I disagree. What sets it apart from most other chinese restaurants that you may find in the area, is that it is HUGE and still fairly clean! It was designed for banquet sized events such as weddings. This place has TWO levels. When they have tons of people they open up the second floor for customers to sit at and eat. The food is absolutely delicious! The size of each item is oversized! You know you are getting your moneys worth when you come here. The little old chinese ladies are super friendly when they come by on their carts asking what you want to eat. If you speak canto, they are pretty fun to talk with while they are grabbing a steamer of food for you and stamping your card. The only unfortunate part of this huge place, is the second floor. If you get there too late and get the boot the second floor, you are in a world of loneliness. They have to turn on the kitchen on the second floor, and re-organize the staff to accommodate both floors. So sometimes, the second floor gets ignored a bit. They wont necessarily pre-make all the stuff already prepared for the first floor. So youll have to flag someone down to get what you want if you cant find it on the carts.

[from July 2006] I was just at New Asia for a friends wedding and -- though I was very happy to share this special day -- I wish I had been equally happy with the food. Instead, it was bland and utterly uninspiring. The McDs of dim sum. The faded/peeling wallpaper and the soiled napkin originally placed at my table didnt exactly set a charming ambience, either. Service was decent, sound system was fine. But -- and true, this isnt the restaurants fault -- whatever you do, DONT PARK AT THE LOT HALF A BLOCK DOWN! In big print, I saw "$2 per 30 minutes." Okay, not cheap, but not bad. Imagine my surprise and disgust, then, when I was told "$25". Then I noticed the fine print ("$25 from 4 hours, 1 minute and onwards.") I was parked for 4 hours and 7 minutes. Bastards.

Its an interesting and delicious experience. 9/10 would go again Be warned the meat plates are not necessarily hot due to being carted around, but certainly cooked. Basically you flag down a cart, point at a plate, and its added to your tab. If you want more than one of the same plate, and you dont speak much Chinese, just hold up your fingers to indicate how many you want. Its not the best place to spend too much time at the table, but it was more than worth the experience. If you just want one or two plates or something its cheaper elsewhere. Best to bring friends as its more worth the amount of food and experience you get,

My group of five payed cash for a large meal. The cashier counted our money and said we were short even though we knew we had payed the full amount. Someone payed an extra six dollars just so that we could leave. A man came to our table and told us again that we were short two more dollars. We payed the two dollars and were about to leave when the man came back essentially demanding that we pay tip even though he admitted it was optional. We had already been scammed out of eight dollars so we were not eager to lay 15% down. All in all, the food was good but the workers are cheap and pushy.

Being from LA (san gabriel valley). Ive been trying to fill this giant void of good dim sum. This place is always packed! I was told this was the best Dim Sum in the area, I am from LA and I still think that Monterey Park has some of the best dim sum ever! It took a long time to get a table, we were finally able to sit down and all our our plates were dirty and it took 30 minutes to get us tea. Food was ok, service was pretty lousy. This place is very large and can sit many people.

Fresh very well made dim sum. If you want a real San Francisco experience go there for breakfast on weekends. Women with carts come by your table and offer different items. It helps if your first visit is with someone who speaks Chinese and can help you find out whats in the dishes. My favorites are these deep fried balls that are sort of like shrimp toast; they have crunchy bits on the outside that Im told are shredded wontons.

The food is pretty decent, if your looking for authentic chinese dim sum, it is a good place to go to, but not very good. The decorations are pretty nice, it looks pretty authentic to the restraunts in China. The service is really bad, the waiters sometimes will ignore you if you try to get their attention, that is the only bad thing about the restraunt. I would recommend New Asia if you are looking to try some chinese food.

Food was pretty good, but service sucks. My partner and I were almost finished when he stepped into the restroom for a moment. A server came over and told me I had to leave because someone was waiting on the table. They even tried to grab the untouched custard bun off the table. I tried to explain that my partner would be right back, but they insisted I leave anyway. Unacceptable.

We were in town for vacation and were hungry for some dim sum. The food wasnt great, but when I had their dumplings I threw up. Seriously. When we complained to the manager, he told us that we had to eat it with a spoon....well we tried it with the spoon, but I dont think it was the spoon that was the problem. I would say NO to New Asia and YES YES YES to Yank Sing

The dim sum was excellent today. I really like the char siu here. The rice noodle roll was great, not over cooked or over filled. Dofu fa was so smooth, it was almost drinkable. Portugal style egg custard were generously filled with a flaky crust and a hint of butter. Ive been eating here since the 1980s and today was one of the best meals Ive had here.

Dirty and disgusting. Ate here on Sunday...had various steamed and barbecue Dim Sum (dumplings, steamed buns, bbq duck)....all very average in a very dirty sitting. The duck was gristly and full of small cartilage pieces, the buns were blah...I think Rachel Ray could make something better (which is saying a lot). Dont eat here, it was gross.

This is one of the biggest Chinese restaurants in the city. No wounder this place is always busy with marriage ceremonies ! Parking is a hassle and food is just average. Here is the good part: during XMAS they usually host Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Festival "Jewish comedy on Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant." This could be a real treat!
