It was my last brisk day in San Francisco for a while and my buddy insisted that we stop by Arizmendi for some gourmet baked goods before heading to the airport. On his recommendation, I picked up a pecan roll and the kind and very helpful staff helped me choose a cheese roll for the road. I started with the cheese roll and found it very pleasant and had just the right amount of saltiness and savory-ness that I wanted in the morning and pat of butter would really bring it over the top. The pecan roll was excellent with my green tea and had great gooeyness but wasnt overly sweet. The recommendations were an excellent start to my day and I can see myself coming in regularly for my morning pastry fix. Arizmendi is just another example of great San Francisco fare. All of the breads and pastries are fresh out of the oven and warm as you bite into them. The service was phenomenal and helpful in selecting from the many choices and I would have been lost in variety without their help. Its clear why Arizmendi is so popular and I definitely recommend checking it out if youre in the Inner Sunset area. Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Price: $ Atmosphere: 9/10

Tip: have a good idea of what you want before you walk in, and grab a paper bag and piece of parchment paper to pick up your baked goods as you move in line. The breads and pastries are along the left wall as you walk in, the same side where the line follows toward the cash register. This makes it difficult to check out whats there before deciding on something. You have to be in line just to look. As we made our way through the line, we picked up a sourdough croissant and a cheese scone. Didnt see the pizza menu until we got to the cash register and saw it written on a chalkboard on the wall. Now having checked their website, we shouldve checked their online menu for the pizza of the day. At the time, we decided to skip it. - Sourdough Croissant ($3.50) The croissant was much heavier than a traditional croissant and had an interesting flavor from the sourdough starter. Cheese Scone ($3) Very heavy too. Loved the crispy cheese on top, but the inside was more cornmeal than cheesy. Moist, but not a favorite. Definitely will be back to try the pizza though.

Wow! Their Green Tea Shortbread is out of this world! It has the flaky, easy-to-break, buttery consistency of a good shortbread with ACTUAL bits of GREEN TEA LEAVES. Repeat: Not matcha powder, but green tea leaves. It has the same taste as if I were drinking a cup of loose leaf green tea. Now that Ive awakened to this existence of Green Tea (leaf) Shortbread ($2 each), its impossible to not give this place a 5 star review. In the same visit, I also tried the massive Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.50) and daily pizza ($3). The Chocolate Chip Cookie tastes different from those in other stores - for starters, its bigger (Sorry, I really had to point that out) and its not overpoweringly sweet. Its also soft, chewy, a little crumbly, and pretty addicting. The cookie would get a 4/5. The pizza of the day had artichoke hearts, spinach, ricotta (I think), and herbs. I wasnt fond of it because the artichoke hearts made it sour. The crust wasnt anything special and the cheese was pretty rich/milky. That pizza might have been a 2/5 for me.

A friend of mine told me she travels all the way from portrero hill just to eat at this bakery. I can see why! Its carb heaven in here, but not just a wasteful amount of carbs to eat. Every bite is savory and mouth watering! You have quite a few choices of types of breads, scones, and bites. They also have a different type of pizza everyday. We chose to try their pizza which had potato fingerlings, cheese, parmesan and something else. Super good and fresh out of the oven! The crust is quite crispy and can be considered a thin pizza. Their toppings are generous and in this case with the potatoes, you get quite full from just one slice. If Im ever back in the area Ill definitely be back to try their other baked goods. There are just so many wonderful bakeries in the bay area!

Great little bakery near UCSF for a quick bite to eat. I had the mushroom, red onion, spinach pizza, which was nice and deliciously hot. There were two checkers at the counter, but the line moved slowly because some customers took their time to chat and decide what they wanted. However, everyone in line was patient and friendly and the checkers were very nice. It helped that the pizza in my hand was still toasty hot. The shop is full of other tasty treats - both sweet and savory - and it offers coffee as well. I sat on the bench outside to devour my snack. The pizza was was crisp and fresh and the dough was delicious. Eating the crust of the pizza alone was flavorful, unlike some other doughs that can be plain and boring. Complex and delicious bread!

I dont know whether to start with the pizza or the pastries! This is by far my favorite pastry shop. The dilemma is always what to order and not to order too much! My favorites include the brioche knots - soft, sweet rolls with raisins; gooey cinnamon-pecan sticky rolls (they have raisins too!); and cherry corn scones (scones that taste like cornbread with sugar on top and big fat dried cherries inside). On weekends you can get really good coffee cake - a different flavor each week. The pizza comes in one evr-changing variety per day and has never disappointed. You can get it by the slice, halk, or whole. You can get it par-baked and finish baking it yourself for yummy hot pizza at home. Only downside: closed Mondays!!

Really great things: focaccia pizza (in the cabinet, not the made-to-order stuff), chocolate um, muffin? Brownie? Not the vegan thing. Good things: The made-to-order pizza. Havent tried the bread but its probably at least good. Not so good things: cookies -- theyre dry. The vegan chocolate mint one tastes toothpasty and the texture is no good. Like an old meringue. The line is silly and theres never enough seating. People with a coffee will hog an entire table. Or with just water, even! Also, too many noisy kids.

Arizmendi Bakery is a gem in the Inner Sunset. They have a few other locations, in the Mission, Oakland, etc. But the Inner Sunset location has a great vibe. The scones are great (Oat is one of my favs but I try their special ones too.) Their breadsticks are amazing too! I usually check their pizza schedule weekly and stop by one a day that entices me. Its sister is cheeseboard, so if you like them, youll like Arizmendi. FYI - They serve equator coffee too, but not fancy espresso-based drinks.

If Arizmendi was going to make a video and wanted great sound affects for every bite enjoyed and filmed, they should contact my friend Amber who so proudly and longingly says Arrrrrismennnndi, its from Arizmennnndi! And she shares her lovely chocolate cakes with all of us and its like heaven times two because you know anything from Arizmendi is super duper delicious and knowing the person who is passing you some is as in love with it as you are, makes me feel like time slows.

On my trip to SF, I would pass the Arizmendi Bakery on my daily waking commute from Moraga to GGP or UCSF. Finally, I popped in to grab a slice of pizza and some pastries to take home. The service was speedy and the quality of the food was good. While not the best pizza of my life, we felt that it was made well and with high quality ingredients. The pastries were also very good. All in all, Im a fan of this establishment for quick and good food. Verdict: Good
