With 20-plus years of eating at the New Morning Bakery, here is the good and not so good. Good: Amost-always excellent and diversified food, motivated servers behind the counters, neat restaurant atmosphere with art on the brick wall, usually sufficient seating, and a good ambiance. The art changes periodically and encompasses a wide variety of style and expertise. The display is very interesting. The owners succeed best at providing a broad variety of pies, muffins, baklava, rolls, cakes, quiche, soup, salads, and bread. Ive not seen better anywhere in Oregon. Not-so-good: The owners fail to provide customers with reliably hot coffee. Remember, owners: one can always let too-hot coffee cool for a moment. No amount of waiting will make ones coffee hotter. The culprit is the reliance on unheated coffee pots to serve customers: the coffee is hot for a bit, then cools down in the stand-alone coffee pot--no heating elements in or under the pots. Hot coffee is a challenge that many restaurants solve, and the owners should do the research needed to always provide their customers with hot coffee. As an immediate aid to hotter coffee, the owners could provide powdered packets of cream in addition to the cooled cream and milk. This would reduce the labor cost of keeping the liquid cream dispensers full and would let customers who accept powdered cream avoid cooling their coffee with the cold liquid cream. But a better solution is to devise electrically heated coffee dispensers so that employees can more fully direct their attention to serving customers the food they order. Unrelated to the above is the difficulty of getting baked goods heated well in the microwave oven, which is operated by the serving personnel. Ones best bet is to specify how many seconds ones choice of food is to be heated. Failure to do so will often result in luke-warm rather than hot food. On the other hand, if you dislike hot food, then the heated baked goods will be as you prefer. The caveats about hot coffee should not keep anyone from experiencing the New Morning Bakery: it is simply the best place in Corvallis to go for coffee and goodies, and has the added virtue of offering healthful food for our less indulgent moments. Try it and decide for yourself.

Pro: Food looked great. Con: Poor customer service. We didnt get to try the food because nobody would help us. We picked out a couple of pre-packaged items (a loaf of bread and a pecan pull-apart-cake) and walked them up to the counter to check out. There was no line and three people behind the counter. One guy was down at the end of the counter working what looked to be a coffee bar. A female worker passed by us several times without acknowledging us and then began talking to the man behind about his order. It appeared that hed ordered before we got there and she was finishing his order. We were more than OK with that, except she refused to make eye contact with us and didnt explain what she was doing. As she was ringing him up another man walked up and stood behind us. A few minutes later, the other female working behind the counter asked the guy behind us if she could get him anything! We were a little annoyed, but were willing to wait for the other female worker to finish ringing the other man up so she could help us. But, as soon as she finished ringing him up she walked away from the register and started doing other things! I tried several times to make eye contact with her to get her attention, but she wouldnt even look in our direction. This went on with both female workers for another few minutes before we just decided to cut our losses and walk out of the store. We had waited at the counter for almost 10 minutes at that point.

First, let me say that the food is excellent. That being said, my last time there, which was today, 3/22/16, my friend and I stood in front of the counter for at least five minutes. At the time, there was only one other person who was getting her food. Even though there were three people behind the counter, none of them indicated that they saw us or were going to be with us shortly. We kept waiting and hoped that we could get our food, but eventually it became clear that they were all but ignoring us. While this is happening, 6-7 people moved in front of us, and now they were getting service while we were effectively at the back of the line. We left without getting anything. What shouldve been a quick and easy purchase was now going to be a 15 minute (at least) experience. The food there is great, and I wish we couldve had some of it.

New Morning Bakery is somewhat of a fixture in downtown Corvallis. Bakery fare as well as soups, salads, sandwiches (hot and cold), and quiche are offered at a counter/display case along one wall. You order at the counter and generally get your food when you pay. If an item will take longer to prepare, they bring it out to your table. The bakery goods are generally very good. The other selections can be a little uneven. Sometimes theyre very good; sometimes theyre a little boring. New Mornings is a popular place for groups. Everyone can buy their own food, they have a little something for everyone, and the food is reasonably priced. Its also a pretty good place if you just want to get something quickly since the counter service is generally pretty fast, especially for something like a bowl of soup.

The rushed unorganized counter service starts the dinning experiance off badly. I had the grilled cheese panini and tomato soup special. The panini was squished completely flat, was a bit greasy, but the flavor and crunch was good. It was served on a wet lettuce leaf though. The tomato soup was more of a tomato stew. If I had know I wouldnt have oreder it just because it wasnt what I wanted. It wasnt bad it just wasnt soup. Somone else probably would have been thrilled with tomato stew if they knew it was avalible. Ive used them for catering and everythin was very good. I just really didnt like my dine in experiance. It it wasnt busy it probably would have been fine.

This is our first trip to this restaraunt, and it was not okay. Yes, most of the food was alright tasting, but the service was lacking. Our food all came out at different times and my friends food was ice cold in the middle. It took 40 minutes to get all of our breakfasts, and when they were brought, they were thrown on the table. We had to ask 4 different times before we got all that we ordered, and one thing should have been given to us right away at the counter. Staff seemed disorganized and confused. No communication between them. (Went to use the restroom at the end, and it smelled highly of urine. I am not happy with this experience at all.)

Im in here pretty regularly. Its a really convenient place downtown with lots of seating, fairly quick service, and wifi. The chicken salad is really outstanding and theyve started doing refills on their coffee, which is nice. I do wish they had a better way of warming bready things; the focaccia winds up a little rubbery after microwaving. Im also fond of some of the pastries, though I think the pies can be a little runny. In general Ive had to find the things I like and stick to them. Id definitely rate it a 4 if the food in general was a little bit better.
