I used to come here all the time when they had Bill Cardinal and the Canyon band! Something happened between them and the owner apparently so now the band doesnt play there anymore. Thats actually been a couple of years now. Since they left I dont go there anymore. I agree with one of the posts on here that the staff are rude. They act like they have so many customers they dont have to treat them nicely. Well they better wake up because theres that new bar next door which is packed all the time and they have awesome live music and good drink prices. Unfortunately they also have jerks that dont know how to drink responsibly. I do suggest you go check that out. Dont give up on the Sod however; it still has potential and its one of the originals in Normal Heights.

This is BY FAR the best pint of Guinness you will find in this country. These guys are the real deal. This is an old school place, that was recently updated nicely. I personally prefer to enjoy time here during the day, where you will see many of the same faces, in quite a friendly atmosphere. At night, its gets a little more young and lively. Both times are good, its up to what you prefer! This is a gem, and I am grateful that the Ould Sod still stands when there has probably been plenty of opportunity to sell out to hipsterville. Great place!

I came here for a drink on a Friday night. It had a very big crowd but there was still seating available which I loved. At first glance it was nothing special but I ended up liking it. Lots of people were here for birthdays so the bartender ended up taking a while to pour the shots. I enjoyed a red bull and vodka but we ended up going to another bar close by because the bartender looked past our empty glasses a few times without asking anything. I will try this place again but Im hoping for better service next time!

I used to go to this place 20 years ago or so and it was a great Irish pub. It remains a great Irish pub. Theyve recently expanded and remodeled a little, but it has not changed much. The main difference is that the neighborhood has become trendy, hip, gentrified, and crowded. You can still get into this place on a Friday or Saturday night, find a seat, belly up to the bar, and move around without pushing through a throng of people holding drinks. Its lively and well attended, but not mobbed or snobby.

That time of the year again and its off to The Ould Sod we go.Another birthday and another fun night doing karaoke here. They get a real neat bunch of punters in here, some cool songs get sung and the beer is always ice cold.Roman did a great job as usual hosting the night and it was great to see his back-up Dan on the night. Its only a tiny bar but it packs a lot of atmosphere once the crowd rocks in by about 10pm.

THE WORST BAR IN SAN DIEGO!!! For the last 4 years Ive been going here and consistently find bullys and idiots at the bar and the door. Just really creepy dorks who have AMAZING ATTITUDES OVER NOTHING!!!! With so many other happy.go.lucky bars in the Normal Heights area, why would you ever step foot in this scum pit hole....? THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR TOTAL LOSERS!!!!! AND IT SMELLS LIKE PISS!!!!!

The whole place, including the outdoor patio, is one long, narrow, twisty hallway--youre constantly squeezing by people to get anywhere. That being said, the vibe is chill and friendly, and its a great neighborhood bar. And I just found out they have karaoke on Saturdays! My friends are smokers so the back patio, however narrow, is a big plus. Oh and the Smithwicks is goooood =).

Im from Ireland, Ive been around the world so Ive seen a lot and I can honestly say this place has nothing at all to do with Ireland and the bar staff are the biggest collection of rude ( lad, indeed ) morons that Ive ever seen in one place. Go to Ireland and meet the real people and see the real pubs, this place is simply an insult, dont be fooled.

This place was great. Only had beers and some beer cocktails which were both awesome after dinner at Antico Pizza (we were stuffed). The hostess and our server were super sweet girls with zero of that infamous attitude. Will definitely go back and try the downstairs area with the games. Beautiful wooded decor and cool vibes.

Really packed on the weekends, though Sundays are chill. Good karaoke night on Saturdays. Not the best selection of beer but they do have a good pale ale, brown, and green flash ipa. Good crowd, not pretentious. Not voting based on it being a true Irish pub, simply by experience, and compared to other bars in San Diego.

Very nice and fun modern kind of irish bar. It has a nice back yard, with ping-pong, corn holes, giant jenga and foosball. They have kareoke nights too. Cant say much about their beer and drinks since I dont drink all that much, but I know its cheap and has a decent variety.

Nice Irish themed bar in normal Heights, the bartenders and owners are friendly and helpful. They have a really nice Beer Garden in the back with plenty of screens for football games. The only negative would be I wish they had a better selection of IPAs on draft.

Stopped by with a friend just to check it out at the staff were super friendly. Loved that small bar/pub feel that then opens up into an additional (newer) space in the back. Feels like you are in a neighborhood when you are in here, or even just walking by.

This place is a nice little Irish bar. The staff is always friendly, and you always feel welcome - of course this might be because my wife had been going there since before I met her, so your mileage may vary. We dont go often, but love it when we do.

Love their outside patio in the back. You wouldnt expect it to be so big when you look at the front. I went in the middle of the week and there was an Irish band that was a pleasant surprise. Good prices on beer. Will definitely be going back.

This place is an epic little hole in the wall. The gem of the neighborhood for sure. Ask Rudy behind the bar for a drink and watch them pour with a heavy hand. Its cheap, has a great ambiance, and the karaoke is loads of fun.

Place has weird smell, and weirder music. Inexplicable extra charge per drink when people perform (horrible) live music. Usually only 1-2 bartenders. Not many places to sit. Patio closes abnormally early.

The Ould Sod is a great place to go if you love President Trump and America! We had a pro Trump meet up there a few nights ago and we were treated like royalty!! I highly recommend the Ould Sod!

Great little Irish Pub! They have karaoke and live bands on weekends. Good price and drink specials. It is a small place so get there early or be prepared to stand and shuffle round people.

One of the very best bars in San Diego. A good karaoke bar. I tend to always strike up a conversation with someone here that I didnt come with. Friendly crowd and that counts for a lot.
