This is a wonderful, retro sort of Chinese restaurant experience, with terrific Cantonese cuisine, for diners who prefer, at least on occasion, the subtle flavors of Cantonese food vs. much hotter, much spicier, much trendier Asian and Pan-Asian food. And I think its fair to say that people gravitating toward corporate-style "pseudo-Chinese" food all over town are missing out on the real deal. Prices are low, portions are large, service is excellent and friendly. Comfortable booths, plus tables and chairs in a middle aisle for families with kids, diners with special needs, etc. Great vibe right out of the sixties; we love it for its "retro cool" without trying. Directly on University in the middle of North Park, near the North Park theater, this unique, authentic place has been serving guests for 75 years here in San Diego. Usually open 11am - 9pm. Enjoy yourselves!

Just came home from eating lunch there for the first time. Very pleasant experience. I ordered a lot of food so I could bring some home. The EFY was a little bland but soy sauce fixed that problem. The black bean chicken wasnt as spicy as I like it but it had a very good flavor. Im being very picky here. The egg rolls were really good. My daughter enjoyed her vegetarian lo main but said the tofu chicken was too mushy (duh!). The server was very pleasant. The food came quickly and they boxed up all the extras. hopefully it will be just as tasty when I warm in up for dinner.

There won ton soup is the best. It has a few good size pieces of pork and about 6 won tons...thats the small bowl. There won tons are really good too! The atmosphere is great. I love the little cart they push around and they are very efficient. The booths are comfortable and you get some good privacy. They could spruce the place up a little bit with some better lighting and decorations on the walls to reduce the chatter bouncing off the walls. This place reminds me of the place I use to go to when I was a little girk...:)

What may I say folks... I absolutely LOVE this place without a doubt! - from the attentive, great spirited and service in conjunction with the amazing and delicious food all the way around - The place has its vintage like decor and vibe - but that just makes the apeal of it all - My Grandfather has been coming here since the mid 1980s and just LOVE it. Wonderful hostess and waitresses really cater and liven up the place - Kudos and Cheers!

This is my favorite Cantonese restaurant, I love it! The food is made to order and served piping hot. It has a homemade quality thats the best. Mom, the proprietor, is the best server. She treats you, as though she really is your own mother. If youre about good home cooking, you cant go wrong here. This place is the best.....

Excellent Chop Suey done by excellent people who provide excellent customer service. This amazing type of Chinese food seems rare now a days. You can never go wrong with Peking. You will become repeat customer as me and my family have been for the last 7 years. Great for family dinner.

Was really hoping to enjoy great Chinese food but what I got was AVG at best. Dont get me wrong the service was great. But the food was so bland and lacked flavor. The Egg Drop soup was the best thing I had there Im not joking when I say I left 90 percent of my food on that plate.

I came here by chance and ended up loving the place. The decorations looked kind of old traditional Chinese , but once that you try the food youll feel the ambiance is complemented by the decoration. Try the orange chicken with natural orange juice one of my favorite dishes here

This is a throw back to my youth and eating Chinese food with all the same decor, which is fun! But the food is terrific!!! I love the Special Fried Rice with shrimp and bbq pork and also the Shrimp Chow Mein with Crispy Noodles - really yummy. Highly recommend it.

Always a great deal if you have a group when you order the peking dinner or deluxe dinner. The tea served is great and the staff is very friendly. Always a spot we enjoy eating at. Expect leftovers to take home with you.

Great food, fresh made for you, great pricing. The service is also very friendly and quick. Love the "old school" decor - reminds me of going out for Chinese food when I was a kid, except this is much better quality!

I went to have a early dinner after a very long day. The atmosphere was delightful. The service wonderful. I asked for recommendation. And was delighted. My family has been going to this spot about 50 years.
