HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Hello I just left this cafe about an hr ago and was so furious that I had to come home and write a review about my exprience there this evening. First of all it is way to loud and the crowd has definitely downgraded (I miss the old living room. I wish it could be that cute little quaint coffee shop it used to be.) Second of all, our waitress came to the table twice (upstairs) telling us that we had to order a hooka. Then I asked politely, "what if we dont smoke" she responded with then you must order drinks or food. which we did (a few coffes) then she says each person must spend at least $10. what kind of coffee shop requires you to spend at least $10 per person. Then I responded with ok fine were leaving and she flipped out on me. She then starting to speak in a condescending manner, as if to a child calling me "honey" "sweetie". I told her that she was being rude and that this was a bogus rule and that there was no such thing. I told her that she should not be so worried about her tip. anyways she starting fighting with me over this nonsense. and thats when I decided to just leave. I have been coming to this coffee shop for over 12 years and this is the first time something like this has ever happened. (mind you they did change owners recently) The waitress was EXTREMELY RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, OBNOXIOUS, AND NOT TO MENTION UGLY! SHE WAS A TALL BRUNETTE PROBABLY OF HISPANIC DECENT. IF YOU SEE THIS WAITRESS RUN THE OTHER WAY!!! I WILL FIND OUT HER NAME AND POST IT ON HERE!

This adorable two story cafe is open from 6am to 2am, making it one of the best places to go at any time of the day. And since it is in the heart of La Jolla, it is definitely one of the best places to go late at night. Besides having a gorgeous view of the ocean, The Living Room has pretty much anything you could ever want when it comes to food and drink. Some of the most popular cafe drinks include the Milky Way Mocha, the California Mocha, and, my favorite, their standard brewed coffee. The manager, Rita, will tell you that they brew their coffee, which is a European blend, every 10 minutes, and it is always fresh and delicious. I have loved their desserts, made by a Swiss chef, from the first time I tasted them in Point Loma, and over the years near San Diego State University where my son and I regularly studied. But my favorite Living Room is definitely in La Jolla. In addition to their cafe drinks, they offer a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu as well as smoothies, wine and beer. If that werent enough, they also have a full bar. Upstairs there is a hookah lounge, ocean room, and cigar room. So whether you want an early morning coffee or a late night cocktail, The Living Room has quality beverages and food that will satisfy any craving, and a place to read or study that can’t be topped.

A really cool Hookah + Coffee place in SD... Have been here multiple times with friends and have got good opinions almost always... There would be live performances in the lower cafe place in some days and can be really entertaining... The second floor is the Hookah bar and has couple of impressive and kinda unique feeling... The music is a bit too loud and the whole area can definitely get a lift over with regards to cleanliness... The hookah bar has an open area which gives goof circulation of air and helps not to feel suffocated with all the smoke... One of the interesting things about the place is the fact that you can experiment on a flavor and if you dont like it can get a change within in the first 5 mins... I love their coffee menu which turn out to be on the stronger note with most of them having extra shots... The service, a bit slow but still is very amicable and approachable... A bit lower music and kinda uplifted ambience would have gained a 5 star from my side... I would still recommend the place to anyone looking for a good hookah bar...

We stopped by here for lunch last Sunday while in La Jolla for our bike ride.My wife and I had last been to this Living Room location over 6 years ago and we remembered that their food and drinks were pretty decent. In fact upon walking in the front door it looked as if nothing had changed. You can still see the ocean view through the huge window at the back of the cafe.We ordered 2 double shot cappuccinos and a grilled club sandwich to share. They have the same cute little system they had years ago.....you place your order with the cashier and pay up front then you wait near the expresso counter to pick up your coffee but they do bring your meal order to your table.Anyway we didnt wait long for our drinks and we had just sat down at our table when our toasted sandwich arrived. The cappuccinos had a very bold flavor and tasted fine. Our grilled club sandwich was huge enough to share and still be filling. We always choose to sit inside here because it is nice and cosy with interesting decor.Well probably drop by again one day when we are in the area.

I found the lighting on the first floor extremely bright and un-cozy. Even for all the people there working on wifi, etc one could get by with less of it or more direct on the table. To make it worse, it was too cold and drafty- it was a rainy evening and they had front and side doors open and the overhead fans running. I even asked that it be warmed up somehow but they were reluctant to cooperate. The dessert I had was good and then my friend was eating his hummus plate when we started to be surrounded by a few fruit flies which I read on another review. It just wasnt as inviting an atmosphere as I expected and not a place I felt like hanging out in for very long. The "stunning ocean view" of the upstairs is an exaggeration. Its a little section of water that you can see. Music was a total hodgepodge of mellow background and then more hard rock so that was a little disconcerting too. A plus is that it stays open very late and unlike most places in the San Diego area. Parking is also a challenge.

I have been coming the the living room for several years now, and i never had a bad experience here until last week.. I decided to try their hookah bar for the first time, so I went with a couple of friends on a friday night. Their seating upstairs was not even half full, and there were 4 people working, but none of them acknowledged or greeted us for a good ten minutes. It was over half an hour before we finally got our hookah, after repeatedly asking for menus, placing our order(twice), asking them to clean the coffee left on our table, ect.. THEN, we watched a group who had just arrived get their hookah in less than 5 minutes! It was very upsetting, and we tried to be friendly to the staff but they were downright rude to us, and didnt seem to care that they had somehow forgotten our order. The hookah quality was disappointing, and their music was really crappy and too loud.

Never got the order. Came with a party of three and sat in the upstairs area with literally 1 other person in the area. While two of the ordered wraps on our order did eventually arrive, mine did not. I had even confirmed when the first two lunches were brought up and was reassured by the waiter, that hed bring it up. And this is after I had personally confirmed to both the order taker and the person behind the, "Pick Up Here" sign that they would bring the food upstairs, and clearly stated thats where we were going. When I eventually went back downstairs to the counter to inquire, I leaned that the wrap had been sitting out, and wasnt delivered because they were "busy". I wonder what happens when more than 4 guests sit upstairs... I did get a refund, but The Living Room has certainly earned their 1-star for wasting my time.
