There’s eating out (casual & fun), there’s fine dining (crystal & linen) and then there’s a truly unique dining experience…welcome to Bo-beau’s. The moment you enter it envelopes you…there’s a unique vibe to this place. It doesn’t have a typical restaurant feeling or look. It’s a stand alone sanctuary that is hard to describe in mere words, like trying to define the taste of chocolate…you just have to experience it. It is, in a word, comfortable. Bo-beau is an eclectic collection of art, furniture, table settings and staff. It’s a happy, unrushed, relaxed setting where joyful conversation meets unbeatable cuisine and service. I particularly like the layout, lots of choices for seating so whether you are two or twenty…there’s a comfortable place for you where you won’t feel squeezed in or too close to others. I hate it when the people next to me are so close they can hear every word. No so at Bo-beau’s. The staff is huge and I think we had six or seven different servers looking after us but never hovering over us. Instead, I would see them slip in, refill a drink or grab an empty plate and disappear. Perhaps most obvious was the attitude of the staff, it is apparent they all love their jobs, take pride in what they do and are genuinely concerned about your complete satisfaction. They were like a family and we were their houseguests. Our comfort was their goal. The school bus outside for the kids to play in was unexpected, as were the open blue flames in the patio section and all the other “cool design effects” which are too numerous to list. The lighting, ornamentation, layout, and even the restrooms were all (and I apologize for repeating this word) very comfortable. Now pay attention because this part is very important…listen to the recommendations of your server. I don’t wanna spoil the surprise but trust them when they suggest trying a medicinal libation, seemingly odd appetizer or specialty flatbread…one taste will have you oooohhhing and ahhhhhing in delight. I dine out (according to my CPA) 179 times a year on average and in many different establishments. I have my favorites (like most people) and often rely on “proven locations” like Cheesecake Factory for great food and service. Bo-beau’s is so unique, so sensational, it blows the doors of the Factory. But I am trying to define the taste of chocolate and that’s just not possible. Try Bo Beaus, especially when you really want to relax, dine fine and enjoy yourself. The prices are moderate, the service is stellar and the food and specialty drinks are oooooohhhh……ahhhhhhhhh. Immerse yourself in Bo Beaus, bathe in the vibe…it’s so much better than chocolate.

A must go! This place reminds me of Cucina Urbana but has more of a rustic feel to it. I had gone here for a friends birthday dinner celebration. Sadly we came here on a rainy Monday but upside to it was that the wait was not as long as we had feared (yelp reviews forewarned a long wait). We did have to wait (again not long) but we found seats at the bar and enjoyed wine while waiting. Note to self, do not order the cheap wine. You get what you pay for. We were seated in a big table for just two people. We thought okay i guess we got lucky. Five minutes later another party of two were seated with us. We were not warned that we would be in a shared table. Granted tables here are small and are all very close to each other. So this "shared table" in the same sense is as close we would be if it were two separate tables. Eh. For appetizers we ordered the brussels sprouts and saffron mussels. Both were amazing. The brussels sprouts were crispy and even the parts that looked burnt were delicious. Mixed with parmesan and balsamic. The thought of it just makes me salivate. I want more. They even give you a very generous portion. We had leftovers! The saffron mussels had so much flavor. Forget dipping the bread in the broth, you may want to enjoy the broth as is. Like i said, so much flavor. By the end of the two appetizers, my friend and I were full but couldnt wait for our entrees to arrive. For entrees we ordered the duck confit fettuccini and the chicken fricasse. Originally we had planned on ordering (per popular yelp reviews) the shortrib flatbread, but due to the poor weather conditions their woodstone oven was out of commission. They were substituting the flat breads with crepes for the day. We didnt want to risk that so instead ordered the fettuccini and chicken fricasse. Idk if again it is due to the rain (San Diego completely shuts down when it pours) but they were out of dumplings for the chicken fricasse plate as well. But instead they substituted the entree with their mash potatoes. Idk how the dumplings would have tasted, but the mash potatoes were delicious. Chicken was cooked right and the mustard sauce had more of a creaminess to it that was really tasty. The duck confit fettuccini was my favorite. It was creamy, pasta was cooked perfectly, and with the mushrooms was just perfect. For dessert we had the creme brulee. It had come with strawberries, blueberries and orange peels. It was semi sweet and exactly what we wanted after being stuffed. Definitely returning to try the short rib flatbread.

dude BO-beau...I cant find anything wrong with you. Everything I have consumed was simply decadent, rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. by now we can all agree that their crispy brussels sprouts pretty much made the name for brussels sprouts in this city. THEY ARE SO GOOD. its funny to go from childhood thinking "ew brussels sprouts!" to eyes lighting up when seeing it on a menu. The presentation of them is just adorable, with a cascade of sprouts beginning within a jar and trickling down the lid and along the plate. Its so pretty. So ya, get this! wonderful share app. pork belly flatbread - this was a bit of an ambitious accompanying app for our meal - so much food! Im a sucker for this style flatbread and it did not disappoint...the pork belly was presented more like bacon, but that is fine. balsamic reduction, caramelized onions, arugula - I actually make nearly identical pizza at home and I am always a fan. also, it made fantastic leftovers consumed cold. i love cold leftover pizza :) duck confit with creamy polenta. i can never pass down duck confit...it was wonderfully executed and that polenta was divine. nothing but slam dunks! i wasnt super impressed with my cocktail. it was definitely alcoholic but had to somewhat grow on me. I got one of the signature cocktails with cucumber. I would stick to wine at a place like this. lovely ambiance...we came on a wednesday evening and were able to be seated right away. I hear they dont take reservations and it can get awfully crowded - something to keep in mind.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego because their crispy brussel sprouts (specifically at this location -- and I try these everywhere!) are delicious, and very consistently so, on any given day, week, or month. Seriously, they are my favorite brussels -- just the right amount of balsamic glaze, pancetta, and fresh shaved parmesan. The flatbreads here are delicious and are reasonably priced. They are enough for a meal for one. Ive tried them all, and choosing one is really just a matter of your taste preference. They are all equally good. I have tried almost everything on the menu variously, and have consistently good experiences here - enough so that I dont feel the need to single any one thing out as particularly good or bad ---- although as of April 2017, since they returned the menage-a-trois dessert to the menu, they seem to have messed with the recipe/storage of what used to be the best peanut brittle in the world, meaning that I personally now skip the menage-a-trois. Although the bar is small, its a great place to go for a loungey drink, brussels, and a flatbread to relax after work, or to have a sophisticated dinner, depending on your mood.
