I have long frequented the Restaurant of the Grange but last evening was my first and last time at the bar. Upon sitting down at the bar, I expect service when a bartender makes eye contact with me. It would make sense that staff would inquire if you require service if they notice you. However, two bartenders both made eye contact with me and neglected to ask if I needed any help, much less say hi. It took much waiting for some other bartenders to finally get to me. There are few hooks underneath the bar to hang ones purse. Given that the seat next to me was open at the time, I had placed my purse there. I was asked by staff to remove my purse so that someone could sit, and I happily complied. I resumed my conversation with my partner with my purse in my lap. I was then asked, by another bartender, if I could scoot over such that the woman waiting could take a seat in the stool next to me, despite there being ample room for her to sit there. I question, why, first of all, this woman could not simply address me, as another human being, to first move my purse, and then perhaps scoot so that she could sit. However, she never even tried moving the seat to indicate that she would sit in it, or try fitting into it. I am insulted that it has been indicated to me by staff that it is my personal responsibility to accommodate their customers, though I, as a customer, should be their concern.

My lunch experience at the Grange today was dismal. I ordered a beet and citrus salad for $13 and it arrived without a single beet on the dish! In addition, the salad that was on the plate consisted of some shredded cabbage, a bit of lettuce, a few pumpkin seeds, a couple of orange slices and a meager amount of feta cheese! When the waiter was informed of the absence of beets, he appeared to be quite surprised and brought me a small side dish with a few morsels of beets on it. My observation of the rest of my tables food was that the amounts were quite small and the prices quite expensive. No bread was offered or brought to the table. I left the restaurant hungry. No valet parking was available due to a large party of wine tasters who, apparently, took up all of the parking places. I will not return to this restaurant or ever recommend it to anyone. I eat out a great deal in Sacramento restaurants and this was by far the worst experience I have had.

I dont see how the other reviews are of the same place. I waited five minutes for the two hostesses to bus a table so I could sit down. There were three dirty tables in the 3/4 full restaurant. The room was very loud as it is all wide open and concrete walls. How others called it quite and quaint is beyond me. The waitress comes by after almost five minutes and asks if I have any questions. I ask how big is the steak listed on the menu. She answers and then walks away. I finally got the order of duck. It was two small slices on top of a few vegetables for $39. The duck was so under done it had blood coming from the center. I tasted an edge and it was extremely chewy and the fat was not even rendered. The waitress supposedly told the chef but he never came out to apologize for the abomination.

We availed ourselves of the breakfast/Sunday brunch since we had stayed at the Citizen the night before. Not being much of a breakfast or brunch person, I have to admit I ate more than I would normally do for a dinner. Excellent choices all the way around, savory to sweet, accomodating and attentive wait person. When my husband had a question about how his oats were cooked, the chef made time to come out discuss the details with him. I would come here for brunch at least once a month if I lived in Sacramento. But being only 60 miles away, I might do it anyway. Looking forward to a dinner soon.

A friend and I had dinner last night at the Grange Restaurant. We were a tad underdressed, very casual but were promptly seated. A busperson asked if we wanted water in a timely manner and the waitperson approached and said she would be there in a bit. I did not feel left out in the cold at all. The menu is amazing and the waitperson very knowledgable about the items. She recommended the short rib to my friend and I ordered the Lemon pepper gnochi which I had read about in a magazine. The gnochi were great but the short rib so amazing that I would go again just for that.

We were celebrating the birthday of my 79 year old grandmother and decided to come here. They pulled out all the stops and made the experience memorable! We received a complimentary appetizer which we all enjoyed. We ordered 4 bottles of champagne for our party. Grandma took juts a sip :) We were very impressed with the service, food and ambiance. My grandmother got a complimentary dessert with "Happy Birthday" written in vanilla icing on the plate. Wow! Well definitely be back before my grandmothers 80th birthday!

Grange, located in the Citizen Hotel, proves the a hotel restaurant doesnt have to be pedestrian. The menu changes frequently and spotlights some of the areas best produces: Bledsoe pork, Passmore sturgeon, Bariani olive oil... you get the idea. At dinner, the ambiance in the stunning dining room is seductive and low-lit. Start with a glass of wine from the carefully curated list and end with a fruit dessert (seasonal and local, of course).

Strangely inconsistent restaurant. Nice decor. Loud but bearable. Food at lunch took 30 minutes (!) to come. Had to ask for water and iced tea refills. Both parties ordered soup, but were not asked whether they would like the soup served first. (All the food came at the same time.) Food was decent, but nothing stood out. Waitstaff were friendly, but were absent for long periods of time. Given the prices, this was a disappointment.

Pretentious and over priced. Mothers Day unfortunately began at this restaurant. The three course menu did not accommodate children and the food came out cold. Really overrated. Our server did his best but they were quite understaffed. All in all it took 2 hours simply because they did not plan for the occasion. Manager ended up adjusting the bill. It was nice to be listened to. Hope it begins better next time.

Had a great dinner here the other evening! Our server Kenny was fantastic, knew the dishes very well, was a very attentive server, but did not interrupt our dinner. Kenny also handled our tables disgruntled guest well when a complaint was made about the wine served not the same yr as on the wine list. Regardless the wine was fantastic, I had no complaints! Each dish was well put together and very well done!

Sam and Tessa hooked us up. We were a large group of Cnm lobbyist (yes to ab1612 by Burke) who wanted a great time to be unwind and hang out. These two made sure we got ample, made-to-order drinks including my special favorite, made to order drink- the bees knees. They were able to blend the sac town hospitality with the modern city service. Hit them up next time your in town for a great time
