TLDR: No wait at prime time on Saturday night Staff seemed confused and unorganized Had to add salt to my dish, which I cant recall ever having done I had higher expectations, but I suppose I should have known this wasnt really going to be the best when there wasnt a wait at prime dinner time on a Saturday night. Not to say the place wasnt busy. The hostess and servers seemed confused and not very organized. After our menus were brought, and man put water on the other end of the table from us, that we dragged towards our place settings. When our server arrived about 15 minutes after we were seated, he simply asked, "Do you know what you want?" While he wasnt rude, and was attentive and friendly for the rest of the meal, its not the norm at a "white table cloth" restaurant. Our food arrived in an appropriate time after we ordered. I had to add salt to my food. I do not like salty food, and I actually dont even own a salt shaker in my house, but the spaghetti carbonara lacked any flavor, what so ever. The most flavorful part of the dish were the english peas. My partner also begrudgingly added salt to his meal, because the tomato sauce was flat and tasteless. We didnt have any cocktails, and after the dinner skipped dessert.

The skirt steak was extremely tough and chewy. It was so bad that I did not eat it. When I complained, both the waiter and the Manager said that sometimes it is tender and sometimes it is tough and stringy. Their mushroom Burger was good though.The service was extremely poor. The wrong food was brought to our table and then when the meals that we ordered arrived at our table, two items were not cooked the way they were ordered. The rare steak was well done. By the time those two items came back to us, our other food was cold. The Manager made excuses that it will take him one month to train the waiter.

Nice looking place with outdoor seating and the choice of food was varied but...1) the portobello appetizer with blue cheese was a bit salty; 2) the nut - crusted salmon and sole were both lacking in flavor; 3) the busboy was more interested in sneaking a chat on his cell phone than offering us any more water; 4) other patrons beside us were ignored for a while until a customer from another table went in to ask for service. It was a nice evening out for us (dinner and a movie), but we wont be returning to the Portobello Grill any time again.

I came in and sat at the bar after spotting the steak dinner specials on Wednesdays for 20$. Theres 6 options to choose and since my initial visit Ive now been back twice because Ive enjoyed the experience so much. My girlfriend joined on my most recent visit and had a grilled chicken salad which was also very good. I cant say enough about the wholesome friendly staff and clientele weve met and chatted with over dinner at the bar. I would certainly suggest stopping in here. Specials each night, but of course Im partial to Wednesdays.

Its a nice restaurant. The service was good and the food was tasty. I had the Petrale Sole special with roasted potatoes and vegetable. But its nothing special and we just went there because we were hungry and wanted to go to the movies afterwards. swo we were in the area. We never really find a perfect restaurant in Redwood City near Broadway:) So it was the best we found and we were full and it was good.

Pleasant friendly staff, lovely ambiance, delicious food with large portions. We were there for lunch. The Cobb Salad and the Golden Pear Salad were ample, fresh, well presented, and with just the right amount of dressing. The ravioli on the special were tender and had a delicious sauce. Fresh bread and butter, excellent service with constant attention to our needs. I cant wait to go back.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are several nice restaurants in downtown redwood city, but this is not one of them. The service is terrible. The food was overpriced. The 5 star ratings on here must be fake, bc there is no way they can be talking about the same Portobello Grill my girlfriend and went to.

We stopped in here for drinks while waiting for our movie to start nearby. The bar area was small, but found a spot for two with a bit of luck on a Saturday evening. It was nice hanging out there. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we asked about their food.

Dont eat the fish. Had a case of food poisioning Monday, the 3rd of October. Looked up the type and its called Histamine Toxicity which means the fish was not kept cool enough. Called and spoke to manager? No real justice, just said he would look into it....

Its not a bad place to have dinner. What i ordered was really good. Which was the Portobello for an appetizer and the Portobello ravioli for my main course. They have a nice out door dinning area and the inside is just as nice. Its a nice place to eat :)

Wife was shopping, I stopped in to sit at the bar. Beer was cold, glass chilled, Saffron Cozze Mar was delightful. Great place, friendly staff, really good food. Ill be coming back!
