Id been here a couple of times for quick pre-dinner drinks, and had always been intrigued by the fish and chips Id seen on their menu - F&C being a staple part of my Australian diet that Id been unable to satisfactorily locate in the bay area. So after about a year of cajoling, I finally convinced my partner to come here for dinner. Oh man, it was SO BAD. "Icelandic Cod" or whatever it was, deserves to be shot out of a cannon into little exploded ashy bits. Which, coincidentally, was exactly what the chips tasted like. I love pubs though, and the Rose and Crown does well on all other counts, especially considering the lack of competition in the area - a wide variety of beer and casual atmosphere mean that Ill hopefully be coming back regularly, but perhaps next time Ill stick to wholesome American foods.

So If I were to judge this place on my very first visit it would be a one star, luckily I gave about three more chances and I love it. First time through there was gangsta rap blaring and people were being generally obnoxious and I remember the distinct feeling in the group I was with that "We dont feel safe eating here" We finished our beer and left to find food elsewhere. Went back with my wife and FIL and found it much more agreeable, and had Pliny on tap! I recommend the deviled eggs and deep fried pickles. The curry fries leave something to be desired. The burgers look amazing but so far Ive only been there for beers and appetizers.

A reliable, long-lived stalwart of downtown Palo Alto, the Rose & Crown is an unpretentious English-style pub with 20 or so excellent craft beers on tap. Its a fine place to have a couple of quiet beers with your open laptop in the afternoon, or if you prefer it busier, youll get your wish later in the evening. The food is basic but you may find you can regularly look forward to fish and chips or one of the other offerings. The painted "storefront" even made an appearance on Silicon Valley, although with an altered name - an insiders wink to a low-key Palo Alto institution.

In the last few years, R&C seems to have really stepped up their beer selection. If youre a beer geek in the south bay, this is the place to be. They usually have a good selection of California craft beers (Russian River, Firestone Walker, Stone), a few other American craft beers, and a decent selection of Belgians and other imports. If youd like to drop some $$, they have a great bottle selection as well. Aside from the beer, okay pub food, ambience is a little on the divey side, nice beer garden. This place is about the beer, not the food and ambience.

Perfect British pub. Not the pretty, cozy kind by the Sea Side but one with great beer, dart boards, jukebox, indoor/outdoor seating. Their kitchen makes legit good fish and chips, Burgers and Fries, and even the other stuff is always dependable. The food is really good. This place has been here for decades and is one of the few places in the area with actual authenticity.

Ponen en su decoracion anuncios de cerveza que en realidad no tienen para darle un toque mas Inglés. La selección de cervezas no es nada del otro mundo. Buen lugar para ir con amigos

Great atmosphere with a staff thats interested in a local following. This place takes the cake when it comes to meeting new people and is a great place to network. I give the Fish and Chips full marks for food, and when it comes to beers this place has a wide selection of amazing options ranging from British classics to rare bottles that you just cant find elsewhere.

The food is fairly standard British pub faire, and nothing to write home about, but they almost always have a great beer selection -- either its their own weekly rotation of beers from all over the world, or a tap takeover. Their outside seating makes for a good group spot, especially in the summer. The bars a bit noisy, but full of regulars, which is a good sign.

Nice hotel, with apartment styled rooms that have a complete kitchen. Ideal for longer stays. Though, if you dont need the fridge - unplug it, a bit noisy at night otherwise. For shorter stays, if youre reliant on the hotel for breakfast, its a bit limited. However, was still sufficient. Minimal breakfast arrangements seem to be common in hotels in the US though.

Stopped by for a couple beers after work on a Monday night and it was fairly crowded (not in a bad way). I felt it helped the atmosphere to that of a good, homey pub. Ordered a Bombardier (per the bartenders recommendation) and it was awesome. Didnt order any food, but I was impressed with their selection (though I will admit Im not that picky).

Best pub ever! Miss it so much. When I moved to Palo Alto, I more or less took up residency here. The owner and bartenders were friendly and welcoming and the patrons, all true locals, not techie transplants, were fantastic. Immediately made friends with a bunch of them and enjoyed there company during my three years on the Peninsula.

Very cool bar with darts and a great beer selection. Came here after a friends birthday dinner at Pampas for some celebratory beers. Even on a Monday night this place was packed. The crowd was very Palo Alto with a lot of techy people coming after work - definitely my type of scene. I recommend coming here to grab a drink!

Not bad for a bar, good place to drink, the food isnt super great, but its bar food. Overall its hard to get service when its crowded because you have to go up to the small bar, no servers, which can make it kind of hard to order drinks and food when youre at a table. But I liked the overall English atmosphere.

The Rose and Crown has an amazing selection of local and imported microbrews. The atmosphere is very low key silicon valley. Youll find hipsters, locals, Stanford students, and entrepreneurs who enjoy beer in this hole in the wall bar. The outside patio area permits smoking, and there are darts inside.

Serves a palatable selection of beers from US/IPAs, Germany, Belgium and England plus rotating tabs. Inside makes you think you are in England but it closes waay beyond pub hours. Biggest problem on the weekends is that it can be very crowded. Highly recommended.

Für einen Europäer ist das hier ein komischer mix, aber es gibt gutes Bier. Vieles schon ziemlich teuer aber dafür keine Fernseher.

Decent little dark and dingy Irish pub in PA. Nice selection of European beers, usually a rare find from local bars filled with only west coast beers (nevermind a decent selection from around the country). Service is muted and inconsistent as expected.

Pretty good dive bar that gets pretty crowded. There is a narrow patio but they dont enforce no smoking so its not very good if you dont like breathing second hand smoke. A couple of dart boards. Decent energy here on weekend nights. Decent prices.

Small little dive bar atmosphere and some dive outdoor space to hang with some friends. I wanted to play some darts, but we didnt get a chance. Would definitely do that next time though. Keep in mind they have awesome beers, but no cocktails.

The place to go in Palo Alto if you are looking for quality ales, both imported and locally made. Also, the traditional fish and chips are made to make you feel like you are in the heart of London. Overall a superb place for a beer and snacks.
