Wow this is definitely a surprise for me. Generally the reviews are pretty accurate when you go above 100s. For a 3$$$ restaurant, I expect excellent service. Our waiter was cold and dismissive. We, 4 people, asked for paper napkins; got 3 paper napkins. Requested if we can avoid pork butter, his response was borderline rude (no substitutes here). The waiter was better as the night progressed but it is a bit too late. Food: The skirt steak was a bit salty but well prepared. The wagyu beef was better. Potatoes come with a nice sauce. The carrots dish was really tasty. The food took really long time to be prepared. This is expected of these type of places, so not out of ordinary. Overall, I am really underwhelmed with the experience here. Cant see myself visiting here again, given the number of alternatives walking distance.

The food lacked any flavor and was extremely bland. We are vegetarian and they did not have one solid veg. protein dish. Coming to the veggies, the potatoes were yummy but the eggplant(one of which was raw), snap peas(fresh quality but slimy with super mild horse radish) and avocado(good but nothing great) were just about palatable. The heirloom carrots again seemed fresh but where is the red curry that was stated on the menu to go with the carrots? A little tamarind puree and some red dots for display is all we got. The 2 stars is for the presentation, the freshness of the ingredients and service. They really need to step up on their flavor profile- BIG TIME!

Great ambience. Service was good as well. Food seemed great for foodies, but it was rather unusual for my taste. Relatively short menu included several raw fish dishes and a wood grilled avocado as small plates. Fried chicken with a decent dipping sauce was a featured entree, and it was just okay. Cauliflower side dish was also not very flavorful and was burned on one side. They were out of the fish entree when I ordered, and I was seated at 7:30 PM, i.e., not that late. I expected much more flavorful food for the prices.

This place is interesting, went for lunch. I would say the starters win, entrees were good but mind not blown like I would expect for the price and hype and atmosphere. Great service and good plating. I had "sandwich" which was an unagi (eel) sandwich and was good. Dont understand the powdered rice cake thing that was too unwieldy to eat without blowing whatever the powder was all over the table. Dessert was also good, though the cake was a lot like a cliff bar. I would try other places before going back here

Wow. We loved everything about this place. From the friendly knowledgeable waiter to the décor and great music. But most of all the food. It was so good. We had the chicken, pork and steak. And they were all great. Very interesting flavor and texture combinations. The eggplant side (which should be paired with a bold protein like steak) was incredible. The burnt eggplant sauce in particular. Its a little pricey but I think this is the best food in Palo Alto.

We came to Bird Dog taking a very naive perspective, that is usually our approach visiting a restaurant for the first time. We had a minimalistic experience full of subtle details in flavors and aromas; presentation is impeccable. The wine list deserves its own review, it is indeed pretty impressive! Service was in sync with the whole experience, They were ready to assist, provide suggestions without invading or rushing us.

Edgy ambiance, quite romantic, very busy when we visited so make sure you make reservations. The menu, which rotates pretty frequently, is solely small plates, and all the food we ordered was solid, but not enough were special enough to deserve the price - for reference, we spent $50 per person when we had dinner here. Still, its probably the nicest "high end" restaurant in the Palo Alto area, and its worth trying out.

Food is excellent, served in small extremely tasty portions. I was amazed by minimalist interior design all is thought in small details going from sliding panels that create smaller more intimate spaces to the candle holders on the tables, plates, cutlery, glasses. Its rare to have such a perfect mixture of fabulous food and breathtaking decor. Excellent experience.

Great food with simple ingredients prepared and plated in creative and appetizing ways. Unlike some restaurants that think they need to give you overflowing dishes to convince you youre getting value, Bird Dog gives you appropriate portions with great flavors and creative recipes.

Tip: Bird Dog brings big city flavors and hip ambiance to the suburbs. The menu is limited but do try the gorgeously plated crudo dishes, especially the fish ones, and the fantastic chicken entree. Drinks are strong, albeit pricey, but desserts are a big miss...skip them.

Eclectic selection and variety of food, all are structured as small plates. The staff is great and helpful. Good collection of wines, the fish dishes are great. The fried chicken is also fantastic. The vegetarian options like kale, carrots, potato dishes are wonderful.

For a newly opened restaurant, the team hit a high note on flavor. I have to compliment their extensive and unique wine list as well. Im hoping to see the day they have craft brew on tap. Until then, Im reserving the one star for when they improve their beer list.

Everything Ive had here is so beautifully crafted. It all tastes so amazing and the plating is a work of art. I love the carrots, the farrow, the salmon, the fried chicken, and of course, the grilled avocado. The fried chicken is some of the best Ive ever had.

Very impressed by this smart fusion experience. Wagyu striploin holds up to the best steak offerings in NYC. Grilled avocado starter is addictive. In a party of five sharing a good mix of dishes, we didnt find a wrong note anywhere.

The new kid on the block. Excellent service! I loved the industrial atmosphere of the place, starting with the big ass doors you need to open to get in ;-) Food and wine are in line with expectations. I would eat here again!

Excellent food, new concept, and definitely taking the American tapas to the next level. I would recommend a reservation, however the bar is open seating. The atmosphere is great, but it is a little pricey for what you get.

One of the only places in Palo Alto doing interesting things with food. Attentive service and good cocktail menu too. Loved the kampachi, grilled avocados, potatoes, fried chicken thighs, and deconstructed creamsicle.

Excellent food and great service. Love the interior: the kind of place where you can have a quiet conversation around a table even if its really crowded. A nice, filling dinner for four was about $400 with drinks.

Good experience. Chicken had a different spin to it and was excellent. Beef dishes left more to be desired. Green salad was a star. With better service and more attention to ingredients this could be 5 stars.

This might be the best restaurant in Bay Area. Food is delicious (crudos, grilled avacado, veggies) even by New York standards. I will eat here again. Do not skip the the steak and the fried chicken!
