Fabulous little spot serving sandwiches reminiscent of my East Coast days. "The Balls" meatball sandwich - 4 stars. Niman ranch beef-pork meatballs topped with provolone and reggiano on la farine baguette. The meatballs were hearty and comforting, darker flavors than expected but the mix of beef and pork really came together. The cheese and sauce sank into the bread, which was awesome for eating the bread, but did cause some separation in flavors from meatballs to the rest of the sandwich. Warning: the sandwich was served STEAMING hot. Give it a few minutes to cool down! Dungeness crab roll - 5 stars. Shredded crab meat with avocado, lime aioli, and meyer lemon vinaigrette topped with fried shallots on an acme torpedo roll. The pile of crab was humongous, the lime and lemon gave a great tang to the sandwich, and the fried shallots added some crunch. The roll was perfectly buttery and the contents of the sandwich held a good ratio against the bread. One small thing - each sandwich is served with kettle chips, but its literally just a small bag of Cape Cod kettle chips opened and dumped on the plate. I couldnt decide if this was depressing or endearing - not everything needs to be made in house but it was kinda funny that they didnt even try to hide what they were doing. Id definitely come back... the tuna sandwich looked incredible, the fried pork belly looked outrageous, even the salads had my mouth watering. Id love to try a bite of everything on the menu! My only complaint is the price... at $14-20 a sandwich, this isnt an everyday kind of purchase.

My brother and I had lunch at Southie to refuel after this past Sundays Berkeley Half Marathon. Weve passed it many times before on our way to Wood Tavern, but never stopped in. Lets just say its going onto the roster as a regular haunt now because this place delivers! I had the best pulled pork sandwich ever here. I love how many pickled veggies they added. My brother had the fried chicken salad that was really good as well. Laid back environment plus you can order things next door at Trappist Provisions. Win win. Will definitely come back soon.

I am a long-time fan of Bakesale Bettys Fried Chicken Sandwich/Salad and recently I tried Southies (Wood Taverns sister fast casual) version. The chicken was perfectly cooked and reminded me of Japanese chicken karaage but the vinaigrette was no match for Bettys. Other than that, I usually order the decadent pork belly sandwich which is rich in flavor and satisfying. Theres not much seating and my favorite place to eat is by the window overlooking College Ave.

Good spot for an intimate brunch - it gets packed starting around 1pm. When we were leaving, there was a line outside. The space is really small -- theres enough seating for about 20-25. If you sit at the "bar" you can watch them cook. I wasnt that impressed by the food. I thought the prices were cheap for brunch, until I got my dish. It was a small portion. Go with one of their sandwiches and pass on the chilaquiles; there are other places that make it better.

Im bummed I didnt come here sooner since its been on my lists for almost a year now. WOW these sandwiches are top notch and the staff are welcoming and friendly. We had the Balls and the Pork Belly and I still cant decide what I liked more. The Balls had the best meatballs Ive ever eaten hands down, and yet the pork belly was so crispy and savory that I want another to take home. Top notch place theyve got here, keep it up Southie!

This place is small but it packs a punch! We has to wait a bit because there are probably only 20-25 seats in the place but the owner got us a tap wine while we waited. We were seated at the bar which is basically a view of the chef doing his thing....really cool, calm collected chef that effortlessly made great dishes. We had an excellent salad and meatball dish. We would love to go back!

Excellent wine bar and restaurant that serves small dishes. Located in a lovely neighborhood in Berkeley with lots of cute little bars and restaurant, Southie stands out for the quick service and high quality of food. The owner is charming and seems to know most people who come in or pass by. Highly recommended!

Opened up by the owners of Wood Tavern is this quaint sandwich dining establishment that is next door to Wood Tavern. Ive tried most of their sandwiches and have to admit that their pulled pork sandwich "spicy hog" and their crab sandwich "dungeness crab" are my ultimate favorites. Not a place to disappoint.

Love it... Eat there all the time. One of my favorite lunch spots. Get the salad with the poached egg on it, or the meatballs... Really anything. Nice wines on tap. Small but well thought out beer and wine list. Staff are super friendly and welcoming.

Amazing food for a decent price. Decent meaning for the astounding quality you get, not that youre going to escape for under $15. The sandwiches are simply amazing and service is very quick. Lunch time is a great time to visit.

Small space. Great food. I had the soup and grilled cheese panini and my companion had a fresh tuna sandwich. Both were outstanding. I saw a lot of other dishes come from the kitchen it all looked delicious. Prices were fair.

Best meatball sub Ive ever had. Ever. Awesome marinara, served piping hot on a roasted roll, extremely flavorful AND the service was great. Didnt have a beer, but they had some good stuff on tap too. A fantastic place.

This place is a great small restaurant for no frills dining. The food is fresh and flavorful. There is not a lot on the menu, but you can tell a lot of thought was put into it. I think its a great value too.

Great quick meals. I like the "Balls" (a harty meatball sandwich) and a draft IPA. Try a window seat and watch the busy pedestrian traffic.

The food was amazingly good, besides sandwiches Ive had in the east bay. Its a little spendy, but not more than the surrounding spots.

The items on the menu sound more delicious than they actually are. Nevertheless, enjoyed the service, the atmosphere, and experience.

Perfect little upscale sandwich spot. Super tight on space, but perfect for two. Fabulous coffee; surprised me.
