I dont know were to start. Today was my first time going to black bear diner in Modesto, and the last. My kids ordered the cheeseburger meal. My husband took a bite and side it tastes worst then McDonalds. He ordered the biscuits and gravy, going on what he was told. Not good the biscuits where ok but the gravy had no flavor and no meat it was also old. He also ordered the fish and chips and all he got was 3 peaces of somewhat fried fish that tastes like kids fish sticks. He also ordered a Dr pepper for me and a coke for him. We had to send them back taste funny. I ordered the eggs benedict. It was ok the ham they use is lunch meat and they over do it so it is really salty. Then at the end we ordered two pies to go. My husband got the blackberry and I got banana cream. Not good at all. The banana cream taste fake there was maybe 4 thin slice of banana and fake whip cream. The blackberry was worse. I dont even know what was in it not blackberries. If you are thinking of going dont. The only thing that was good was our really nice waitress.

Wow, I just went on Easter 2015 and met 4 of my family members for an early dinner. The floors were just filthy and we had to ask for them to clean it. The prime rib special..was all not to order..couldnt get bake potatoes because it was on 330 not 4. The ham special was smothering in gravy..I like gravy but not on the ham. The best thing on all of or plates were the vegs.. I understand how they can get busy but to neglect the cleanliness of a restaurant where customers are going too be eating...Well, all I can say is would you leave your floor filthy at home and serve guest ...I know I will not return...

Use to love this place when it first opened but now the food quality is poor. The food tasted horrible. My last visit, I had to send our food back 3xs. There was something wrong on my plate & they brought it back to for the 2nd time incorrect again so I had to send it back a 3rd time. Not only that but the waitress was being rude to me and most likely it was due to the fact that we had to send the same plate back 3xs but its not my fault

My kids like eating here because they enjoy the decor. The eggs and breakfast meats are fine but I gotta say Ive never been able to get good fresh tasting country potatoes or hash browns here. They seem to be pre cooked and then reheated. So maybe order fruit instead of potatoes with your breakfast. Best place for breakfast in Modesto is the Velvet Grill & Creamery on Dale Rd. by the mall or theres one on McHenry.

I had the country fried steak and could not finish it because it was horrible. It was overcooked and it wasnt good. However, I did enjoy the biscuits. I do like how the drinks are served in mason jars. The menu was made to look like a old southern newspaper. Overall, for the price and the quality, I would NOT go to restaurant again.

Black Bear Diner is one of my Dads favorite places to eat. They have great American style cuisine with a good selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Prices are a bit higher than Id like but not terrible. Good place to eat if you want a hearty meal and you dont mind spending a bit of money.

I ordered the New York Steak well done and got a Rib Eye still frozen in the middle. The waiter argued and insisted that is what I ordered. My sons chicken strips were over cooked and hard to bite. We will not return anytime soon!

Best food we had in along time. We live in Washington state and not used to this amount of food. You definitely get your moneys worth. We ate here two times in the 3 days we were in town. We will be back each year. Great Service.

The portions for the price are amazing. The hot sauce selection is both adorable and delicious. The service is second to none. Extremely attentive and always cheery and personable. Cant leave without a smile on your face.

The newspaper menus we received were very greased up unsanitary we were the only customers in there and the wait was very very long we do not recommend this place we all got sick after. The food smelled bad. Yuk!

On our way to Los Alamitos, and we stopped at this joint of in and out. My Son and daughter had milkshakes. My daughter got a strawberry milkshake, and she said " The milkshake was super creamy and delicious"

Food was good,our waitress was great,hostess was awful not people friendly at all. Beware of the dark haired hostess, you ask her anything she is good at avoiding you, then giving you dirty looks later.

The food is closer to homemade cooking than any restaurants nearby... The servers are very kind, bottomless drinks, and if you are looking for large portions, youve got it.
