I came to shimizu on a friday night. It was recommended to me by a classmate that said it was her favorite in east bay, so I decided to give it a shot. There was a bit of a wait (15 min), but thats expected on a Friday night. We decided to order the chirashi, the spicy juno roll, flying tiger roll, and a simple unagi and avocado roll. 2 miso soups were included with our meal. The chirashi came first, and you could tell the fish was fresh! Theres nothing I hate worse than getting chriashi and the fish is tough and chewy. That wasnt a problem here. The rolls were good as well. The fish to rice proportion was perfect, and it wasnt too heavily sauced. Service was friendly and quick! Great place to go if youre looking to get your sushi fix!

I had such a pleasant experience here! My boyfriend and I intended to go to another place for my birthday dinner but since it was a long wait, we ended up going to Shimizu. It was a little bit of a wait because there wasnt much seating since it was a small store. We got the Ikayaki (grilled squid), ladybug roll, mendocino roll, and the flaming dragon roll. They were all so good! Everything tasted so fresh. Out of all of the rolls that we got, the flaming dragon roll was my favourite because it was the most flavourful. The workers were super nice too!

This is a very good place to get sushi. My wife and I eat here a lot. Its reasonably priced and they have parking which is often tight on Piedmont Ave. We like to sit at the sushi bar and can usually get a seat there without a reservation. The sushi is high quality and they have a lot of different and unique rolls. They have a frequent dinner program where they will stamp your card. double stamps I think on Tuesdays. If you spend $200 there over time they will give you $10 off your next meal. Friendly people and a nice place to hang out.

Tried this place last night - it was cold out and wanted soup. Ordered the nabeyaki udon - the chicken was over cooked and rubbery - the noodles were over cooked as well - the broth was over salted - I took 2 bites - the waitstaff asked if it was ok - with a low voice I explained it wasnt good. They did nothing to accommodate - charged me anyway. Ive worked in the service industry for years and this is not how you take care of your guest! The hot tea was warm.

This review is for Shimizu which took over the space that used to be a chinese restaurant. We Simizu for the first time last night and really liked it. I confess that we went there after stopping by Get-A which was closed at 9:00. Shimizu has a nice, warm atmosphere and everyone was really friendly. We had the Flaming Drgaon roll, the Lion King roll and the Agedashi Tofu. All were great! Will definitely come back again.

3.5. Went here last night with a few friends. There is a 5 or 6 parking spots around the restaurant, otherwise plan an extra 10 min to find street parking. I shared the Spicy Juno and Charisma with my man. They were okay. The calamari was really good. The service was okay & the food came out fairly quickly. Its not as crowded as geta (but geta is prob better IMO).

I and my friend went here last week for dinner. We love sushi (love sushi house (in alameda) Tomi sushi in san jose but this place is the best. . -Free miso soup and Really quick service. We sat down then a server came and asked what do we wanted to drink. Shortly she came back to take our order. good food and good service. I will come again

Teka maki (Tuna roll ) Was very good. And The roles come with miso soup on the side. The small dining Room is very clean in the service is very fast. Staff are friendly. Parking might be a challenge during a busy day, but no problem on a Monday evening at 19:00. Bathroom was very clean too. Theres even a tiny parking lot on the side .

This place is simple, friendly, unpretentious, and delicious. It may not be the best sushi around, but it is pretty good and comes with a laid back atmosphere and friendly service that makes up for anything that the sushi lacks. The inside is intimate but doesnt feel crowded or loud, and I have never had to wait long here.

We like to sit at the sushi bar and can usually get a seat there without a reservation. The sushi is high quality and they have a lot of unique rolls. Must try whenever your near by. Blossom Roll is the bomb here. Classic California Rolls is pretty good here.

Friendly service, good eats, and stamp cards! This is definitely a regular venue for me. There can be a bit of a line outside on busy nights but Ive never waited more than 30 minutes. Its in a fun location too so you can always go for a walk while you wait.

how do they stay in business? there are so many great restaurants and like 4 on piedmont avenue, this one was not my style, not cheap, not healthy, not sure what makes this place a draw aside from the parking lot. i cant get my post to not show 5 stars????

This place has great food. The wait can sometimes get long, and seating here is very limited. We usually use it for take-out. Also, they give you double-stamps for their loyalty card on Tuesdays, if you are looking for a mid-week sushi pick-me-up.

Been coming here for years. Love the staff. Love the chefs. Love the consistency of fresh, quality sushi. Our standard order: spicy edamame, lighthouse roll, and maguro and Hamachi nigiri. Never fails. Yum! Going to miss this place!

The former Chinese place was bad, but this new Japanese place is excellent. Nigiri sushi was excellent. We eat at all of the good places throughout the Bay Area and this place is phenomenal for a local site. Highly recommended

Went on Presidents Day as a lot of other businesses were closed. Got seated immediately and service was quite pleasant. We had miso soup, a sashemi sampler, and a couple rolls. I enjoyed everything we had including the hot tea.

This place was spot on. I measure a place based on the taste of the Hamachi- this was clean and so fresh, and the piedmont roll with no rice was a treat!! So happy to have found them!!

Very good Japanese restaurant. The teriyaki beef short ribs is fantastic. My favorite, an acquired taste, is the off-menu grilled hamachi kama or yellowtail fish jaw.

Delicious teriyaki and wondrous sushi! Their Bento Box is a great deal. Definitely too much to eat in one sitting, so Im looking forward to leftovers.
