We use to love this restaurant. Their food and service was excellent. Told everyone about it. I am sad to say my husband and I stopped going because they changed their menu awhile back. It is more of a Tapa style. I also think it is under new ownership. We decided to try it again this past weekend. It has gotten worst. First we ordered 4 slices of Saba (Mackerel) Sashimi as an appetizer. They only brought us 2 slices. They were not as tender and flavorful as Saba should be. We also ordered one of their more exotic expensive rolls. Sadly it was colorless and tasteless. We even dipped the pieces in the sauce that they served with it. That did not seem to give it anymore flavor. Then our grilled fish came. It was just a small whole fish on a plate. No sauce or rice was served with it. The flavor was just okay until I had a piece that was darker in color. It was horribly bitter. Had to spit it out. My husband asked for the check right after that. The server asked me how was the food. I couldnt answer. So my husband spoke up and said it was alright. Then he asked me if I wanted to go eat at another restaurant.

Little about this place sticks out from the dozens of sushi places in the bay area. They have exactly what you would expect on the menu, with the exception of an underwhelming choice of rolls. They do have tuna belly, but its at market price, which for us was $19. Although it was good, frankly, I dont think its worth the price. A much better value is the tuna sashimi, which is delicious and also $19. If you do go, I would recommend getting the mango hi (its a sweet mixed drink).

Got there at 9:15 pm on the way back from SFO. It was almost closing time. I asked if the kitchen is still open. The waiter said "Of course" Sushi bar has just been cleaned but the chef made rolls for us. My mom order a seafood ramen - $18. It came in a standard size bowls with plenty of seafood - scallops, salmon, etc.. The soup was delicious not salty at all which is perfect for me. Great services especially at almost closing hour. Will definitely be back.

From the lunch menu, the saba shioyaki was delicious. Small portion, but juicy and fresh. It seems like this restaurant wasnt as popular for lunch as some of the other Japanese spots in San Mateo, but I still very much enjoyed their lunch offerings, which is cheaper than their regular dinner menu, albeit still around $2 more than the lunch menus at the other authentic Japanese joints like Hotaru.

Ive been coming to this restaurant for decades. It originally started as a hole in the wall on B Street, then eventually moved to its current location on 4th Avenue. Through it all Ive enjoyed many, many delicious and memorable meals at this fine restaurant. Amazingly the quality has remained consistent throughout the years. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Just about the only Japanese restaurant where they serve WHITE MEAT chicken teriyaki. Excellent dinner or lunch at reasonable prices, with amazingly fast service This is the best Japanese restaurant I am aware of, and the fact it is mostly filled with Asians must mean it is quite authentic. Mark

I go there at least a few times a month. They serve home cooking style Japanese foods not just Sushi. You can also order a few things that are not on the menu, if you know these menus (and you are probably Japanese, if you do) Very friendly services.

Country style dishes that are very authentic. Sushi quality is very good. Has very good noodles and service is very good. If you appreciate good Japanese you must go.

Good food. Good service, somehow over 2 items bill jumps up to 80 for 2 people light dinner, no too bad... . Just ask about market price items before you order.

The best sushi Ive had in the bay area. Very unassuming from the outside but never disappoints. Friendly service, simple/relaxed decor, and amazing chirashi.
