BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!!! Everyone, I have been a very loyal customer for over 15 years eating at this restaurant. The Le Cheval in Oakland. Yesterday, my co-worker and I were having lunch and I had the worst experience in my ENTIRE life. We both ordered the LC combo which I am sure those of you who go on a regular basis know what that is….My second bite into one of the deep fried imperial rolls, I bit down on something very hard and had a taste of sand in my mouth. When I went to spit it out on a piece of napkin, I quickly realized it was a small black ROCK. I call over our waitress and hand over my napkin and proceed to walk after her to see where/who she is taking it to. I begin explaining the situation to a gentleman who is the manager there who starts apologizing and telling me how sorry he is that this has happened. He asks if I would like another order and I respectfully decline and turn away to walk to the bathroom to rinse out my mouth. As I return to my table the bill comes shortly after and when I refuse to pay the manager/gentleman comes over to inform me that he can comp my order but not the entire tab. WOW….. I expressed to him that this is my co-workers first time here and based on the situation it would be exceptional business practice to comp the entire table totally less than $30. He refused rudely. As I begin to walk out, I asked if I could have my napkin back that had the rock inside and the manager told me someone threw it away and he didn’t know who. That’s suspicious…. He did not ask anyone to look either. I asked him to give me some gloves and I would look myself and he once again refused rudely. The manger there was extremely rude; I just could not believe this. All these years I have come here the customer service I received that day was beyond my belief. So for those of you who love this place just as much as I did, just beware and be cautious of what you order because you never know what you may bite down on or into. This is unfortunate and unacceptable and I will never never return… Your former loyal customer

We havent be to Le Cheval in years and had just seen a play at the new Flight Deck on Broadway. We thought great ,lets eat there weve had such pleasant experience with food and atmosphere in the past. The atmosphere was still pleasant, although our waitress seemed overworked and it was hard to get her attention after the initial dropping off of the menus. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls and a chicken, vegetable curry dish. The spring rolls tasted like they had been sitting in the refrigerator too long. When we got the curry dish we realized the vegetables must have either been recooked or came from a frozen package and were heated up. They didnt look or taste fresh and the curry was uninteresting. Now granted these are just two dishes from a large and ambitious menu. However no restaurant should have food on their menu that dont care about, so that someone like us might order them by accident. I strongly suggest finding another restaurant if you are in that area.

this was by far the worst service ever! the waiter was a snob, he smacked his lips when i told him he had given me the wrong order.the worst part is when i found a cockroach in my sweet and sour soup!and guess what they said to me?oh its just a baby cockroach! ill give you a discount! is this a freaken flea market???i threaten to report it to the health department and thay said oh we wont charge you for the soup! yet have they apologized..places like this need to be shut down immediately!

A step-up from the normal Vietnamese restaurant. This place is in the heart of downtown Oakland. Its a huge restaurant so seating was not an issue. The wait staff was very nice and helpful with menu choices. I ordered the Canh Chua Saigon (hot and sour soup with pineapple) and it was good. Also had the shrimp spring rolls and the rice paper wrap was very different. It was chewier and thicker than others Ive had. Overall, a pretty solid Vietnamese restaurant with nothing that amazes me.

The absolute worst customer service for a take out order I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I asked nicely if they had crab. I get a hard "NO". I then asked about the claypot salmon. The lady says "read the menu" and walks off. When I lived in the bay area this was my go to spot. Now I will never go back ever again. I am black. Dont really know for sure if that had anything to do with my poor treatment. I ended up at "Kincaids" where I was treated fairly.

Raw beef pho was exactly what it should be. Tender falling apart beef in fragrant soup. I really enjoyed my meal and it was a pretty good deal as well. My friend ordered the beef stir fry cold vermicelli. It smelled so good from across the table I had to try some but unlike your typical cold vermicelli dish, the noodles werent cold and the beef rather oily. Great casual place for a couple of friends, huge floor space.

The food was excellent and that is why I go out to dinner. The noise level was low enough that we could have a conversation, but it is not quiet. The service was not the best, but was good enough that I was not bothered at all. I hope to be able to go again. I had eggplant. It is often horrible, but was perfect in the 2 dished that we had it in.

I had wings and shrimp for lunch and it was so good that I went back and had the orange beef for dinner on Saturday night. The food was tasty but after my meal I was very gassy. I assumed it was simply because of the onions. Leaving my doctor now after two days of diarrhea, headaches, chills, and bloated. Three meds to treat me. Pass on the beef!

Large, well-adorned with a colonial French Vietnamese themed restaurant in Old Oakland, with a vast dining area. Despite appearing upscale, the prices are very reasonable and the food is good up and down the menu. Service was prompt (almost too much so). A nice and easy asian dining option without having to go to Chinatown nearby.

Delicious Vietnamese fare. Some of the wait staff is not the friendliest. But, overall, the staff is friendly and do a good job. I strongly recommend the green bean and garlic chicken as well as the Vietnamese iced coffee. Overall though, everything we have tried on the menu has been delicious and quick to arrive at our table.

So I went hear many years ago, they have since then and built a new location. I remember it being a lot more intimate, the new location is pretty large. The vietnamese food is good here, decently priced. I always get the cubed beef steak (bo luc laac), which is tasty. We also got the spring rolls with shrimp which was good too.

Why?!?! I keep asking myself; what possessed me to go to the Christmas lunch here. Rude servers, long wait time before arrival of server, A/C blasting on a chilly day... brrr. I guess the bidet was the highlight of this restaurant so my aquaintences quipped. Food flavor has declined as well.
