This restaurant has a neighborhood feel to it. Not a hipster or trendy spot, more older and friendly. Open views of the SF bay. If you go at sunset then you are in for a treat. Plenty of options for those who are not into seafood. We started with market oysters and the Kumamoto oysters. Big difference! The smaller Kumamoto was the brinier and better tasting choice. The classic St. Jean Chardonnay was perfect with this appetizer. The meal I ordered came with a very nice clam chowder that was thick but not like the pudding you get in some places. Lots of clams not overly starchy. I ordered the Fishermans stew. Not at all a ciapponi like what you might expect. A slighty sweet tomato basil broth that was thick enough for stew. Filled with some very good sized prawns, tasty clams, not too chewy calamari, good tasting fish pieces, bay shrimp and some small but good scallops and fresh basil. That was a very filling meal! It came with some rice that I didnt even touch. The sourdough bread and the stew was enough. I had some Anchor Steam beer with dinner. My dinner companion had the Captains stew which is basically the same thing with a white wine garlic clam broth instead of tomato. Also very good with the St. Jean Chardonnay. This is a great place to have a quiet and enjoyable dinner.

Went to dinner with my husband and 3 yr old daughter as a rare dinner out and was very disappointed. We went many times at their old location at base of Park St. bridge and the food and service was always good. I rarely eat steak, when I do, I order the filet mignon - I always order this at pier 29. This time the filet was thin and overcooked ... I wondered what happened to the other half of the filet. The baked potatoe was overcooked. The salad was stripped down to lettuce, one small slice of tomoatoe and a few kidney beans. Food portions were cut back and not well prepared. The one upside, my daughter ordered the childrens chicken teriyaka with rice and she really enjoyed her meal. And service was fair at best ... they never came back to ask if the food was okay, only after my filet was cold did they circle around to ask if my husband would like a second glass of wine. They continually tried to pick up our plates before we were finished. For what we got we way overpaid ...bummer of an evening.

Loved the views during our lunch. Clam Chowder was excellent. Prices are very reasonable. Only complaint is the waiter seemed overly busy even though there were not very many people dining at the time. We were asked if we wanted more water, which we did, but he never returned to give us more, nor did he ever check back after our meal was served to see if everything was ok. We also asked a bus girl that was cleaning behind us if we could get some cocktail sauce, she said she could not but she would get our waiter to do it. She did end up bringing it herself (cocktail sauce tasted more like ketchup than cocktail sauce). I feel like she should have said "let me take care of that for you" rather than "no, I will get your waiter to do it". Overall not bad and I would give it another shot next time we are in the area.

My experience at Pier 29 is always good to have good food I hated it when they move to Ballina that used to be over the Park Street Bridge in Alameda just right into Oakland borderline Alameda I felt more intimate there they had glass blowers I did get a little run-down but the food was very good they have lots and lots and lots of stuff too order off the menu its not like your average restaurant or pages of stuff to order so everything is very good all the food is really good I have no complaints on there

We looked up restaurants near us on Google and decided to try Pier 29. This is a nice restaurant near an area of slips. The restaurant is very nice. Our server was great and was easy to speak to. (we dont know her name but she had a slight auburn highlight to her hair, glasses and is in her late 40s, early 50s. She was informative and polite. We ordered a veggie burger, kids hamburger and the open face turkey sandwich. All meals were great. The pricing was reasonable. We recommend this restaurant.

Extremely disappointing. Starter - The salad was dry and literally looked like some vegetables had simply been thrown onto the plate with no thought to seasoning or presentation. Main Course - I ordered the filet steak and what I got was an extremely thin and grey piece of meat which had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The vegetables served with the meal were the dullest I have ever received in a restaurant. Overall - In no way worth the money for me and my partner (over 60 dollars).

I have been going here for years and even before at the oakland location by the park street bridge, and although the service is always excellent and 5 stars and lady night was also, im so dissappointed at thanksgiving dinner, for the price at 28$ per serving, and was a processed Turkey Roll, not real turkey, i have to say most dissapointing TG ive ever had and the only dissapointing , when expecting a real holiday meal ive ever had there, i hope is not a sign of the future,

Excellent food, I highly recommend the crab&shrimp salad, and for a group of five of us, the service was perfect and quick. Yesterday was clear, so the views of San Francisco and the USS Hornet carrier set a nice mood. The other direction, views of the Harbor are more idyllic. Perfect place for seafood and see good. Came to visit the Hornet, never been in Alameda before, so I am glad a friend told me to eat at Pier29.

The view is gorgeous, and the staff was wonderful. However, the food was incredibly disappointing. No flavor to the veggies, lamb shank was very fatty, and a boring house salad. I would compare this to generic diner food. I was expecting so much more. Oh, and the easy listening music was killing me. I rather listen to the birds and bay outside.

If it was possible to give this place no stars, I would. Everything was obviously frozen, cooked horribly, and had no flavor. It was barely edible and offensive. I cook for a living and this was insulting. My wife and I were here with her parents, otherwise we would have left and eaten elsewhere.

The food is excellent - try the prime rib. Reservations _only_ via OpenTable - they dont answer their phone at all. Nice view out over the marina, as well. We sat in the bar area; theres also the restaurant area and an outside, shaded porch. Great place, we mean to return.

Our recent evening dinner was disappointing. Although the location and view are great, the food was just OK. Prices, for what we received, were way too high. Unless you are enchanted by the views, almost any other restaurant in the area would be a better choice.

Love this place. The photo is of Pier 29 in San Francisco. Pier 29 the restaurant is in Alameda on Ballena. It used to be in Oakland on the water, presumably around that Pier 29. Perhaps a photo of the actual restaurant would help.
