Let me preface this - I have been eating sushi since I was a kid. I am almost 50 now. My husband I turned on to it in his mid 20s - This is by far the worst sushi I have ever had. The rice was cold and stiff, like it was made days ago. The fish was not cut correctly. Obviously by an amateur and not a true sushi chef. Way too much rice. Apparently "Mr. cap on sideways" was responsible for this. The Ikura - salmon roe - was STINKY ROTTEN - PUTRID. The waitress claimed it was from "yesterdays delivery" No one delivers salmon roe on a Sunday - flat out lie. They should have given us this horrid meal for free, but didnt. The other fish was not fresh - sort of floppy and not firm like true sushi should be. All the bad reviews are true. Its dirty. They serve food on chipped/dirty dishes, the service is sub par. They go cheap on ingredients that come to them very cheaply -the ginger and wasabi were served very, very sparingly. This is a place trying to be too many things at once and probably gets the karaoke right but thats about it. The food sucked, sucked, sucked We only came here because Osaka was closed. We love that place - great service, super fresh and guess what? Unlike Mikis - the staff is Asian!! Osakas staff is very attentive, funny and friendly and you dont have to chase after them for another beer and sake. Poor Miki - we met her and her family when we first moved here over 10 years ago. Im sure if she knew what became of her beloved restaurant, shed be crying her eyes out. We have had top of the line sushi made by pure experts who are proud of their culinary craft. Not some hacks that couldn’t make it at burger king. Never again will we be going to Mikis. Please dont go there - save yourself some food poisoning. Which I and my husband may or may not be dealing with later on tonight. There is a 50-50 chance. And I have never gotten sick from eating sushi and this is a real concern. Go across the street to Osaka- if its closed, wait another day.

Oh Mikis....you sure do keep things interesting. My fiance and I eat here quite often and not one experience is the same. A few things that change regularly...the ice tea (it seems like every time I order it, the flavor has changed...its delicious every time but still), the size of the rolls (sometimes I get 5 pieces to a roll...or like last night, I got about 10 (and the pieces are the same size)...makes a huge difference because I never know if I need to order 1 or two...isnt there a standard size that they were trained to make?), the timing of service (sometimes we get our rolls in 10min and other times it takes 45min...youd think youd wait the longest on a busy day...not always the case), miso soup (during the dinner hour, youre usually greeted by your waitress with a bowl of this delicious soup...but sometimes you arent...?)....the list does go on. I will also add that the last few times we have been in there have been pretty embarassing for me...Im not sure what they use to clean their floors (soda pop maybe?) but it leaves your shoes very sticky and everyone knows (and stares) when you go to leave. I also dont like the fact that you smell like deep fried food when you leave here. All in all, I do love this place and will continue to eat here for as long as this place exists...I just wish someone in upper management would see some of these comments and maybe make some much needed changes...take a hint from a customer that does see the good in you and will continue to come back :-)

THE BEST SUSHI... EVER How on earth could anyone describe this sushi as super-market sushi? My husband I have tried literally every sushi place in Modesto. When I had Mikis with some friends, I could not believe how good it was. I dragged my husband back the next night and he couldnt believe it. Seriously, we both stopped chewing and just sat there, eyes wide, couldnt believe how good it was. Now, he and I have only had the Bacon Bikini and G-Money. Maybe we just got lucky and the other sushis are not as good. But I have a really hard time believing that. Ive had all kinds of sushi, this is wonderful. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and to the person who was racially profiled... its spelled bigot.

My husband and I wanted to try a new Sushi Restaurant so we went to Miki. When you first walk in you have these two so called hostests standing there talking/ laughing all loud- the restaurant was quaint but DIRTY. They seated us-the table was a mess--no one ever came to us and there was like 6-7 servers just talking...instead of actually serving. The thing is they were not even busy?! Really! So we waited another 5 mins...still nothing--we just got up and walked out. Took our business to Tori- good sushi/ better service and they were actually busy. Word of advice to the owner-get rid of these waitresses; get your staff starighten up! No one have time for BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

So where do I begin... First of all Mikis is a modern decor sushi place. Lots of fancy lights, lots of the color red. My Chirashi bowl was great!. We had a seat on the chill lounge in the back and were seated under the flatscreen TV. I felt like I was in a fish bowl since everyone was looking in my direction to watch the TV. My only cons were the miso bowl that was served to me - the paint on the bottom and side walls were scratched up. Really? Youre a fancy, high priced sushi restaurant, buy some new bowls and make sure they arent plastic. What it comes down to is they charge way too much, when you can go across the street and get the same thing for a few dollars less.

Ive been to my fair share of sushi spots in the modesto stockton and turlock areas and this is by far the worst service i have had out of any of them. it is a beautiful place and sushi is alright they pack on so much rice, but where does that get you when service is just blah... the servers are somewhat rude, was just there recently standing at the front for a good 15-20mins before someone finally realized we had not been helped and we were finally seated. i have been going to mikis for about three years now and i can honestly say that there food is going downhill... tempura rolls come out soggy rolls fall apart i tend to go to any other place before ill go there.

Love the redesign. Great sushi, drinks and service. Overall quality of food is 5 stars. Maguro platter one of the best deals in town if you love raw tuna. Try the Red Dragon roll, you will not be disappointed. Be sure to ask for real Wasabi and take your taste buds to a new level. Not always available but 9 times out of 10 it is, only 5% of sushi houses in Tokyo offer real wasabi so take advantage of it. Better presentations than any other Modesto area sushi house tried so far. 5 stars from me on this one.

This sushi far exceeds that of any other sushi bar in the area. I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else. They have mastered the authentic sushi roll and have put a spin on it with their unique sauces and flavor combos. I always order the same thing: red dragon roll- spicy, raw, sweet, delicious. The only down side is the service is pretty poor. It may take a while to get your order taken and you might have to flag your waitress down a few times unless you sit at the sushi bar.
