Restaurant was not even one-quarter capacity, our server only had one other table in his section to wait on and the service was terrible. Server was unfocused and forgot half the order. Even the food that did make it out was presented in properly and incomplete. The two boys cooking spoke only Spanish and loud enough for everyone to hear. They must have thought we did not understand Spanish, which we do, and were able to hear the derogatory comments about us from the kitchen after we complained to the shift manager. They argued with our server over our order in front of everyone which delayed it even longer, and even back talked the female manager. Obvious lack of respect for the management, fellow employees, the customers, and the brand. Not to mention little things like the salt and pepper shakers having the tops switched on them so the salt comes pouring out like water. Was really a bad experience even for a diner. Ironically there was a sign on our table saying that they were hiring for all and after our experience there I can see why. We have noticed this decline in service in other Black Bear Diners as well. The shift manager was empathetic and it offers free dessert which we declined. Its obvious that the ownership of this particular location has failed to give her the training necessary to deal with these situations or to hire quality people for her to manage. Just complete top-down mismanagement of the brand. Wont return to this location. Hope they get it right for the sake of the shift manager, she really seemed out of place there. Good Luck. On a side note we tipped over 30%. Left all that negativity behind for Black Bear Diner to own.

After reading some of the reviews, I dont understand why this place gets busy and people actually wait. Initially, I was excited to bring my 2 yr. old daughter here for breakfast and so this morning we finally stopped in and overall I was very disappointed! We walked in and was greeted by a guy that had no personality as he rushed us to our seat. It was not busy. I specifically asked for a booster seat and he brought me a highchair instead. Then we waited for over 10 mins. before a server came. The food was below average and the pancakes were huge and dry! Bacon was under cooked and eggs were cold and blah! The waiter never once asked if wed needed anything else or if everything was ok after he quickly dropped our food off. Then when the time came he just dropped the check off without asking if we needed anything else. Upon paying the bill at the register, a simple, "Thank you" and "Have a good day!" would of been nice. Gesh! This place was a waste of my time and money being that it had one of the worst service and dining experience that Ive had in the Milpitas area along with a depressing vibe, dirty carpeted floors (Why would any restaurant have carpet? Gross!), and below average food. Too bad, they would of had a weekly repeat customer.

I would be giving this location a one star review if the food hadnt been as good as it was. Our waiter had to be asked several times to bring water and napkins, and when three out of four dinners arrived it took ten minutes for my fathers dinner to be served, which we had to point out to our waiter. The food was great just like any other Black Bear Diner, but our emptly plates were never picked up, even when our desserts arrived they were just placed around our used plates, and before we could ask him to take them he had already walked away. We ended up putting our plates on an empty table to eat our desserts, and only when my aunt got up from the table to track down the manager did the plates get picked up. The manager was a whole different ordeal. While he did seem to listen to our complaints he motioned for our waiter to come to our table where he then told him what he did wrong in front of us, which made my whole family very uncomfortable.

I love Black Bear Dinner. I love the portions for the price. It didnt phase me that when we got there there was a 20 minute wait (I just thought everybodys stomach was thinking the same thing ;) But that then turned into a 40 minute wait. Still. I was unbothered. Finally we were being seated....thats when things started to take a left turn. We asked for a booster seat that didnt we didnt receive until 45 minutes AFTER we asked for it. They waiter NEVER came back with the utensils, and refill on my beverage. My food finally come out by another server (she also brought the booster seat and utensils - still no refill) but it was definitely showing signs of the wait as it was cold. Overall Im extremely displeased at the service. I LOVE this place but after this exchange I have to reconsider. I was so fed up with what had happened that I didnt want to be bothered with notifying the manager. Until this addressed, my rating will remain.

Solid Diner for all meals. Hearty menu. We really need more Diners in our neighborhood. Especially those serving full country breakfast like Black Bear. Because too often I cant wait against the long lines of people waiting and I wind-up settling for McDonalds I had a great waffle and reasonably good eggs Benedict. But just let me in the kitchen a few moments to show them a tangy hollandaise. And why do I always need to bring in my own true maple syrup? It would be quite the successful breakfast restaurant attraction if a restaurant would maybe offer the real stuff. Its more expensive, so maybe 75¢ extra for 2 ounces of the real stuff and thats fine with me. But even as they are, Ill certainly be back.

Good food selection, fun atmosphere, and decent prices. BUT it could be cleaner (high chairs, kid play area, even tables), more coffee options (lattes, etc), bathrooms could be bigger, and employees could be better trained. Once I had 4 employees checking up on me, but still faced ridiculous waits for drink refills and such. Another time i got the fruit bowl and it only had honeydew and cantelope in it.... really, those fruits are cheap and yucky. I expect a tiny bit of variety even if you use those as filler. Still come back, but never impressed.

Came in and waited very shortly to be seated. The staff is very well trained. What you can expect from them: Patient, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back with very old cheery music chiming in at all times. Nice bear theme with a feel of of old tymey-ness. Now the food. Two words: CHEAP, GENEROUS. The food is well priced, fairly seasoned and you get a large portion, much better than Dennys. Overall, great place to just sit and dine, heck, you can have breakfast for dinner! Will always come back if I can.

Black Bear Diner always delivers the same thing: 1. Mediocre service - from the time you come in the restaurant they basically take care of you at their own pace, which is usually pretty slow. 2. Huge portions - I rarely finish what they provide me, and when I do I am overly full. 3. Yummy food - Theres almost nothing there Ive tried that I dont like. This time I got the parmesan burger, which was quite good, though it could have had more mustard and parmesan.
