I struggled between giving Maruya 2 or 3 stars but yelps got it right - Ive experienced better. Being a ramen fan, I was excited to hear about a new ramen place opening up in Little Tokyo - I came here on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm with two of my friends. Place was full! Luckily my friends snagged a table first so I just sat right down. FOOD: - tonkotsu ramen - broth was on the oily side without very much flavor. None of that sticky lip richness you get with most other tonkotsu broths. Also, NO CHASIU :((((((( You do get a whole soft boiled egg though, but still! Portions are good, noodles are silky (handmade according to the sign) - spicy tuna don (combo) - decently tasty! But not very spicy at all - chilled ramen - NO BROTH, tastes like somen due to the sauce - spicy miso ramen - this one comes with chasiu but the broth is rather sweet and not very spicy SERVICE/VENUE: Quick! Our server was super friendly and refilled our waters often, checked on us several times as well. Our plates were cleared away quickly as well. The space is larger than I expected! Full for lunch, and the menu covers ramen, rice bowls, sushi and appetizers. PARKING: Street (metered) a plenty or various lots you can park at as well. I dont think I will be back but Im glad I satisfied my curiosity.

The broth used is nothing short of amazing, cooked a very long time, but the nice part is that it isnt greasy at all like some of the broths I have had. The in-house made Pork Chashu is fantastic. It resembles a wide cut of bacon a little bit, but compliments the ramen well enough to not offset the broth flavor. Not to mention that you can also have a large side amount of other things that you can add to your ramen dish. The noodles are made in house, making them very good, and they absorb the flavor from the broth very nicely. I most like that you can also see them making the ramen noodles sometimes throughout the day. Its a thicker noodle than you would find in other noodle places, but I also can taste the difference between a frozen noodle and hand made, and Maruya is doing ramen right..... I definitely recommend the Ramen combo. It is a very filling amount of food for a very good price(11.95), and you get the ramen, and a list of side appetizers to choose from. The Gyoza are also made in house, and is really delicious. All in all, you get your money worth here, and you also get options to go with it. A very well done Japanese restaurant, with a very earthy atmosphere. Nice simple dishes, but done with a great care into what they are putting out.

I expected this place to be better being that it is in the Japanese Village. It wasnt terrible but Ive definitely had a lot better. The side salad was boring just plain iceberg lettuce no color no carrots ,cucumbers nothing, the miso soup was blah my husbands Ramen didnt even look good he ordered it spicy and I guess they just put spicy sauce on top instead of the broth being spicy it looked like someone bled into the broth not very appealing to the eye. the best thing was the rice bowl donburi but even that Ive had way better elsewhere and I could hear the couple next to me talking about how disappointed they were in their order of spring rolls which I have to admit DID infact look pretty sad from where I was. So would I come back here? No! But if you are going to dine here definitely get something with rice because theyre rice was the best part of the meal.

I really want to give this place a 3 star review. The food was good but my experience was marred by slow service in the beginning. My friends suggest I should dismiss the long wait for water since the restaurant was busy but I think that beverage orders should really be the first act of service once seated! Other than a little wait for water, the food came out pretty quick and the portions were good. The spicy miso ramen is well flavored, not too warm, and has the perfect level of heat. I had the "side" of spicy tuna which really could be a small meal in itself. I ended up getting extra noodles, which was a little overkill but I DID share

Im currently in my ramen phase right now and Ive been trying a lot of ramen places. I went to this place after seeing a picture of a large bowl of ramen filled with chashu. For $14 / bowl, it was enough food for 2 grown adults. The broth was a bit too salty for my liking, the ramen was a bit too hard as well. I wish they gave us an option on the intensity of the broth and texture of the ramen like ShinSenGumi. The wait was not bad. I went on a Saturday night around dinner time and only waited for about 10 minutes. The food came in a timely manner. Experienced great food and service at this restaurant.

This was the very first time Ive ever eaten at a japanese ramen restaurant and it was wonderful. One bowl of ramen is big enough for two people to share. The bowl had plenty of beef broth, noodles, and delicious pork. My friend share his katsu chicken lunch plate with me and im swooning over the shrimp tempura that was delicious. I also got pork gyoza and spring rolls for appetizers. As an added plus this place has free refills on soft drinks. Which is why this place is getting big accolades from me. But the food was the big highlight for sure.

As its mentioned, Maruyas most popular item is their Chasu Ramen($15) thats packed with chasu. However, I like to come here for their lunch combos. Between the hours of 11:30 am - 3:30 pm you can enjoy one of their special combos at a $2 difference from the dinner price but with the same amount of food. Im not a huge fan of their range; I find it to be very salty but thats just my preference. What I like here is their chicken katsu, its always perfectly breaded and crispy without being hard or burnt like some other places in the area.

We came here to eat Ramen because the other place that we wanted to go to had an hour wait and we were hungry. We got the Tsuke Men and one soba noodles with hot broth. The Tsuke men was ok, the noodles were great, very aldente and chewy. the broth was ok nothing great and not spicy at all. The sobas broth was tasty not great but good. The soba noodles on the other hand werent not good! wayyy overcooked, they felt stale. The Octopus appetizer though was good... We shouldve waited for the other ramen place...

This place is famous for one item and thats their giant bowl of Chashu ramen. So many pieces of Chashu hanging around the bowl and theres even more chashu inside. Normally only like 2 or 3 pieces for most ramen, this one has like over 20 pieces. Price js a steal for about $15 thats only $5 more than normal ramen. The bowl is bigger more broth and noodles also come with a full eggs cut in 2 pieces. Their broth could be better...
