Last Thursday I popped by to check out what Philz Coffee is all about. Its a nice clean open space with bold color accents here and there.I had a good chat with Rachel the manager who has a real positive outlook and she filled me in on some of Philzs style. They do serve every customers coffee in disposable cups of different sizes ...large or small but you can bring in your own porcelain cup or travel mug and they will fill it and only charge you for a small brew serve.....good deal! They are certainly bringing some San Francisco panache to Encinitas ......they will customize every coffee drink to each customers own personal tastes....So I came back with my wife the next day for the soft opening which was happening at 11am - 3pm.When we arrived at Philz around 1pm there were hundreds of people inside and outside drinking coffee. It was amazing! My wife and I went in and were lucky to be introduced to Jacob Jaber the CEO of Philz Coffee who we had a nice chat with and he thanked me for putting the store info plus photos/review on Google maps.Jacob even personally ordered our coffees for us after we told him which blends we wanted after checking out the more than 15 coffee blends available on the menu board. And of course we didnt realize that everybody who here came today was drinking for free...the munchies were even free too.We had a chat with Gina...the sister of Jacob the CEO and also met a bunch of other people including Assembly member Rocky J.Chavez.They all know Im a big Google Maps reviewer and thought it was way cool.My wife and I enjoyed our large size Jacobs Wonderbar hand crafted pour over coffees tremendously keeping in mind we had never tried a pour over in our life....we came here for lattes.....ha ha on us.We came back last Sunday during our bike ride and had lunch here..more delicious pour overs ...we each tried different blends this time while lapping up the positive atmosphere here. All the staff are just super great and want to make every customer feel special.

I was told this place had great coffee so when we were in the area we decided to give it a try. I walked in and since there are only Starbucks around my area thats what I thought Id walk into. But it was sooo different. First you stand in line and wait for you own barista to call you, then you give her your order and s/he makes it RIGHT there! In my case I had no idea what I was doing so I asked for some advice and my Barista was amazing and helped me make a decision. This is a COFFEE place and they have so many choices. But I decided on a medium coffee infused with Hazelnut oil. They make each cup to order right there and when its done they want you to taste it and make sure it doesnt need any more cream or sugar which they will do for you. This cup of coffee was amazing!! My daughter ordered a hot chocolate and that was delicious, they also have different teas which were brewed right there. Everything was so good. Next time we will try the food as well.

Philz is not a just another coffee place, its a coffee bar, its a coffee brewery, its a coffee cocktails pub, its everything about coffee. You dont have to stick to the menu, be as creative as you could. I wanted something very dark, their barista recommended Aromatic Arabic, as the name suggests it is Aromatic, very dark and very strong, exceeded my expectations. Next ordered a chai, because thats what I make everyday at home, they did meet my expectations, very flavourful with cardamom ruling. They do have large variety of pastries and sandwiches. Tried their Avacado toast, I was totally toasted. It melted in my mouth. On a crowded day, parking might be the issue. Also Google map shows different place.

Decent coffee and an alright brunch. A bit pricey, in my opinion. $3.50 for a light roast cup of coffee that didnt even taste light a light roast - it was quite bitter and tasted more like a medium/dark roast. Also, $5.50 for a singular slice of toasted bread, hommus, and veggies...eh. I can see the appeal, but its not something Id be interested in dropping the money on again.

So happy a Philz finally opened in San Diego! The mint mojito is my favorite; I had never had coffee with mint before. They also have gluten free options, I highly suggest indulging in the mediterranean avocado toast; its seasoned to perfection. Spacious location with plenty of seating. Parking can be a hassle on the weekends, aim for parking on side streets.

Love that San Diego finally has a Philz. Very busy but the wait is not so bad. Has a nice sitting area in front if inside is too crowded. The only downside is the parking lot is small and packed but theres street parking. Coffee always delicious, the mint mojito is a must try.

So happy to see Philz down in San Diego county. The atmosphere here is definitely more SoCal than the Bay Area locations; it compliments the neighborhood well. This is the only coffee I enjoy drinking black.

The cold brew was really good. I love my coffee, and I wasnt disappointed. I havent tried anything else on the menu yet, but based on my initial experience Id say this place is pretty legit. Ill be back.

Killer coffee, makes Starbucks look like a fast food chain. Baristas even want you to taste the coffee before you take it to ensure satisfaction.

Slow, confusing layout, expensive, pour over only, made with burned beans served in only paper cups, not enough seating. No redeeming qualities.
