I am still in shock at the horrible way I was treated by the owner of this establishment. I had been working there for a few hours, and had bought a coffee and croissant. First he asked me in a rude voice to move because they needed to shift some supplies (I had chosen a table in the very back), and I did so without a word. He then continuously asked me if I wanted anything else (literally every 5 minutes) and then proceeded to tell me that I needed to spend $5 an hour if I wanted to stay there, or that maybe I should go to the Starbucks across the street instead. The place was not packed (there were other open seats and tables), and I didnt see him harass anyone else. I cant help but wonder if it was because I was the only woman of color there? Im curious to know if others had similar experiences.

This might be the best coffee in the entirety of Southern California. No joke. Ive been to a lot of specialty coffee shops, and the location, the staff, the price, and the coffee, especially the coffees got all of them beat. Their award winning coffee got depth of flavor and aromas unlike any Ive ever had. And to be honest, I dont know why anyone would go across the street for the Starbucks, because at the same price point, you have coffee that blows Starbucks out of the water. You can choose to sit in and drink coffee while admiring the cute bird rock neighborhood from their open patio window seat, or take out and go a block down, towards the ocean to enjoy coffee while enjoying the ocean view.

Somewhat pricey and full of yuppies but hands down the best coffee north of The 8, possibly the best in the entire city. Seating can be limited and outlets are non-existent, but again, the coffee. Didnt get "excellent" across the board because the food offered is far too overpriced and not all that fantastic- but again, my god, the coffee. The cost per cup (~1.85 USD if you bring your own) is also very reasonable when you consider the lengths they go through to ethically obtain coffee in a way that treats the growers in a humane way. "Socially responsible" coffee indeed, and to good end! The baristas are the best Ive ever met/interacted with, and can make some damn fine espresso art.

Dude-brah, this coffee shop by the ocean is bodacious. In the heart of the quieter surf town of Bird Rock is this awesome coffee joint. The espresso is made with a high level of attention to detail and the cold brew is perfect for a hot day out on the beach. The pastry selection isn’t huge, but it is fairly extensive as well. On nice days, which is nearly every day here, the big doors are opened up for fresh air and sun and there are even window sill benches to sit on. Beans are roasted on site as well in the back, explaining the tasty fresh note to the coffee. The vibe here is much more relaxed than the more fast paced La Jolla.

I love it here. People are nice and coffee is great. Nothing bad about this place at all. I came here seeking a wake-me-up and was pleased with the outcome. The service was very friendly and they took the time to help me figure out what tea flavor I wanted for my tea latte (they have a many options). I ended up getting a peony tea latte which gave a flowery taste to the latte, which I liked very much. I also ordered the trophy wife (macadamia nut latte) which was very rich in taste as well. I liked everything I got. Anytime youre looking for good coffee and and a friendly atmosphere, this is the place for you.

**NICE AMBIANCE AND GREAT CAPPUCCINO** ABOUT ====== Award-winning coffee shop for organic, fair-trade java in stone-and-wood digs with big windows. PARKING ======= Street and residential. AMBIANCE ========= All that natural lighting and woodsy decor. Its a small coffee shop, but wonderfully functional with the limited space. LOVE. COFFEE ======= CAPPUCCINO Fragrant, smooth, and unique high-quality bean taste. Not the strongest coffee, but still very good. RATING: 4.5/5 OVERALL ======== Dog friendly, super friendly neighborhood local vibes. Ideal coffee spot in La Jolla. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I travel often for work and pleasure and make it one of my goals to search our artisans that take their craft seriously. I stumbled upon Bird Rock Coffee roaster by chance while visiting my sisters in La Jolla. What a treat, I was blessed with beautiful weather and great coffee. I am a latte drinker and on first sip I could tell that the coffee was exceptionally smooth and well roasted. I like my coffee drinks a bit strong so extra shots were a necessity. All in all a great experience, my daughter still happily talks about the hot chocolate. Kid and adult friendly

Chuck knows what hes doing -- not only does he offer a great variety of fair-trade and ethically-produced coffees, he has a great selection of freshly-made pastries, incredible teas, and staff that are warm, welcoming and attentive. Birdrock Coffee Roasters frequently has lesser-known varietals of coffee, providing us customers a taste of coffees which are unavailable at other coffee shops (especially the "big-name" corporate coffee shops). And excellent hot chocolate for the kids (or kids-at-heart!). This place is well worth the drive!

Im impressed with the level of knowledge the people have about their coffee beans here! The taste of this coffee is quite different from Starbucks. The prices are on par with Starbucks but I feel that the coffee here is special. There is a good amount of variety of their beans here. I had a medium roast...which actually has more a floral aroma to it. Yum! I like the fact that each bag of beans states that the growers are treated ethically. Kudos! Its a short walk to the beach and has outdoor seating.

Nice blends, some of them award winning and well worth trying, so take some beans home and experiment. House espresso is a tad high on acidity but otherwise solid. The choice with the filter brews is between medium and dark roast, where the dark roast is lower in caffeine and less sour, so have that in mind when ordering. Atmosphere is pretty chill with people minding their own business, making it a good place for a meeting or for work away from the office.

Inusual buen café en América. Parada obligada para amantes del café. Tiene una pequeña terraza al sol. No tiene desayunos aparte de bollería que no es nada especial a mi ver. Si estás hambriento busca otro sitio.

I have been obsessed with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters for quite some time now! Staff is super friendly, coffee and tea are top notch (micro roaster of the year), and the ambience is unique and interesting - large garage door windows open up to La Jolla Blvd, creating a beautiful open air space. The only minor complaint - I love plush seating and some of the seating is hard wood or metal. But I have a boney bottom, and Im picky about that.

SD Bird Rock Coffee Roasters sets the coffee standards here in San Diego! Love the atmosphere and place. The Bird Rock Community is great! a lot of nice locals shops and plenty of restaurants to try. I personally havent been to any restaurants but I make the drive to La Jolla just for the Coffee! One of my favorite signature coffee is the Cortado and Mocha! My friends recommends "Trophy Wife" macadamia nut latte! Enjoy!
