Ramen Yamadaya OC is located in a pretty busy shopping center in Costa Mesa. There’s even other locations all throughout Cali. Southern California has been so hot lately, but we all decided to check this place out. There was a few people waiting ahead of us so it took a while to be seated but it was worth the wait. As we waited, we checked out the menu. I was debating on ordering ramen or the bento box. Of course the popular choice would be the ramen. I ordered the KARA-AGE CHICKEN and rice “bento” plate which comes with fried chicken, rice, and a cabbage salad. I really liked the “cole slaw” which was just cabbage and this awesome Japanese salad dressing. The fried chicken was good but it was lacking flavor. I sprinkled some spice to it which made it a bit better. Fiance ordered the TONKOTSU SPICY. I was surprised at the amount of spice in the soup. Just look at that dollop of spicy paste and oil. I noticed the noddle is quite similar to Shin-Sen-Gumi as it’s straight. But he did prefer Shin-Sen-Gumi noodle. He also ordered a side of the CHASHU PORK. Yum, these chashu pork just melts in your mouth and there was enough to share with everyone. The fiancé and I tried the watermelon drink which was super refreshing. It was their new drink and I just had to have it. Unfortunately it costs extra for re-fills but I think one is enough since it’s somewhat sweet.

Instagram : @koganei037 Reason for coming: Trying a new ramen place per friends recommendation. Food: Takoyaki were good, it was firm, juicy and a good size octopuses that were cooked just right. Tonkotsu Spicy Lv1 was not spicy at all, maybe should have tried Lv2. The broth was just ok. Overall this dish wasnt impressive, just ok. Yamadaya Tonkotsu was the house ramen, broth needed more flavoring, pork slices were good and the big fat pork belly was good. It would have been a really good ramen, but we all know that ramen starts with the broth. Once again the broth was lacking, therefore ramen was just ok. Service: Not attentive but as long you get their attention they will fill your request asap. Ambience: Its a cozy place, if you get to sit in the center big tables, they have a mini lantern that works as a candle holder. Can use it as Instagram background of food shots. Verdict: This is just an ok ramen place, there are better places to go to.

Ramen!!!! The broth is so good I can drink/eat it all. Its slow cooked with pork bone so you get all that fatty goodness. The ramen and pork belly is really good too. Ive only gotten the Kotteri broth both times Ive gone with extra garlic. Get the large bowl only if you are hungry, I could barely finish it. Its open until 9:30 pmish? so if another spot is closed you should come here. Its in a strip mall so there is usually plenty of parking too :D Would love to see more meat toppings(?). They only have pork, pork belly, and pork chop. Verdict....great spot for some very good ramen. I will agree with Lauren B and say I still like Santouka a tad better. They have better ramen and that special pork is amazing.

It definitely improved from few years back when Yamadaya first opened up. I was first curious about their porky broth since I watched their ad somewhere. My initial experience was their broth was way too salty and overpowering. I came back twice since then and both times, their broth was more manageable. Their tonkotsu broth still boasts deep porky taste. Its good for people who enjoys Daikokuya broth but I lean more towards shin-sen-gumi type of lighter broth. Today I tried their shoyu, soy sauce based, broth and I enjoyed it. I request to have their whole garlic crashed and that definitely enhanced the flavor. I could tell their chicken kara-age were not fresh out of fryer, but likely out of microwave to reheat.

Convenient little location, eat garlicky, salty goodness then wash it down with sweet Tastea a few doors down. Highlight: Great tasting Tonkotsu Ramen, make sure you ask for the garlic press if your date doesnt mind that garlic aura. If he/she does well at least you’ll have a great tasting Ramen to make it memorable. Service: This is where it is a hit or miss. Ive had days where I asked for the garlic press 3 times and it never showed. Ive gone thirsty from my cup not being refilled. Other times Ive been pampered, making garlic press and beverage refills rain on me.

Love this place. Great choice for Ramen dishes in the area. No need to go large, the standard bowl is plenty. The broth is really flavorful and slow cooked. One can tell the establishment takes pride in what they do from the service to the food to the cleanliness. The service has always been really good to me. Ive had the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Tonkotsu Kotteri, and both were excellent. They have a veggie based ramen dish that I may try next time. Cant go wrong here.

Yum, probably one of the better ramen spots in the OC! The price is decent, good portion and you can add more noodles for $1 if you love carbs like me :), great flavor, good service...not much to complain about! Favorite thing-- you get to mince fresh garlic into your ramen with their garlic mince..r? haha I would love it more if someone did it for me because I do LOVEEE my garlic! Also, another plus is you can walk over to Confettis next door for some dessert!

First of all, there was a bug in my water, and when I told the waitress about it, she didnt even apologize. It was gross. Secondly, I ordered garlic topping but it didnt come with my ramen. Lastly and most importantly, though the soup of their ramen looked creamy, the flavor was really weak. I was overall disappointed with the service and the food. There are so many better ramen places in OC than Ramen Yamada, I dont think I will ever go back.

Good food. Always packed here, it seems (or maybe the dark walls just make it seem more crowded than it is). Loses one negligible star from me only because their spiciest broth really isnt spicy at all, at least, by my standards (Ive had ghost pepper sauces without flinching). If you want really good ramen and truly spicy soup, try the ramen place (I forget the name) inside the Tokyo Central grocery store at the corner of Harbor & Adams.

Great place. The servers are extremely friendly and provide excellent service. They are very attentive. The food here is delicious. Tonkotsu Ramen with a combination karaage and small salad. Great dessert selections and drink selections. This place is very laid back and cosy. Waits arent very long and lots of combinations you can make with your Ramen. I come here for the great service and stay for the tasty food.

The service received was beyond expectation. The food quality was excellent. I had the tonkotsu kotteri ramen and the broth was very very rich, like its been simmering for days. The salad was crisp and fresh. The karage was so tender. The fried rice had this light smokey flavor that had my whole party trying to figure out how to recreate it at home! Overall a great experience!

One of the best ramen spots Ive been to, hands down. Not only was I satisfied by the amazing food and portions, but the price was just right to make you feel like it was worth it. The service was excellent and the food was almost brought to our table immediately. It felt like those traditional ramen spots you would fine in the shopping districts in Tokyo;)
