Even within Mitsuwa market, Santouka had a bit of a stranglehold on the Ramen game in the area. Perhaps we forgot about JINYA, Kohryu, Mentatsu and Yamada. Well I actually do from time to time. Despite the downfalls Santouka has its iron clad guaranteed a good consistent bowl of ramen. Not nearly the menu of its competitors, but a staple for many. I just realized how dense all these places are to each other. Dare I say Ramen mecca. Back to the new kid on the block. Ramen Zetton. A young upstart looking to bully the old guard with a bolder soup base, a hint of garlic and a different kind of spice. I hate to compare to others here because I was pleasantly surprised by the heavy soy/salt ramen and it caught me off guard, in a good way. It reminded me of eating ramen from food carts in Japan. That style soup isnt something I miss out here, but definitely brings me back. I dont even want to call it authentic because there are many varieties both there and here and none better or worse or more real or not. Its dark and looks rich, almost reminds me of a beer and yes is salty so those on low sodium diets this will ruin that in about half a bowl. My second time here being more versed to the spice content I went big and added spicy miso and pepper and it did the trick. I found the heat to be more jalapeno ish and chili or flaked pepper oils. I found the egg a little overcooked. This place is tiny and easily passed by, but well decorated. Im giving it a strong 4 stars with a lot of potential because despite the similarities it does enough things well and unique that to those that are bored by the rest in this oversaturated market I think will come here and really like it. Typical Japanese restaurant hours and can be difficult to get here for the busy person, worth the extra effort.

More like a 2.5. My buddy and I came on a Friday night, luckily we beat the prime time rush. I ordered the butter corn ramen with an egg. The best part of that meal was the egg. I dont know how they perfected the egg, but it was the saving grace. I received a slab of butter in my soup, but I only used a little bit. Noodles were of a good texture, not too soft or hard. My biggest gripe is the saltiness of the soup! This was the first time where I didnt finish my bowl of ramen! I usually at least finish all my noodles, but I couldnt this time. It was THAT salty! Service was fantastic. No one hurried me or my friend. Seating is NOT plentiful. In fact, all the chairs/tables are squished so close together that I heard everyones conversation around me. The 1 unisex restroom was clean. Parking is plenty. I cant say that Ill be back, but I really did enjoy the egg!

I got the curry ramen with soboro rice, sweet pan fried ground pork. The first thing I noticed was that my ramen came out with a slice of butter on top. I knew I wont enjoy it as much so I scooped it out before the butter melted into the broth. The curry broth wasnt overly strong and it had a nice balance to its flavor. I also noticed the melted cheese inside the broth. I thought that was okay. I liked the type of ramen noodle used in Zetton, both elastic and right amount of chewiness. The present surprise came from the taste of soboro rice which reminded of yoshinoyas beef flavor. It was sweet and savory and I enjoyed it very much. Its a tiny restaurant with limited parking so its worth coming in little before or after the rush hour.

The dining room is pretty small and can get very busy fast. With such a small room I would expect the service to be amazing. Unfortunately, we never recieved our hot tea that we ordered and it ended up on our bill anyway. We had to ask for drinks and when we did she brought half filled water glasses and semi apologized about not bringing the tea. The toppings in our separate orders were mixed up and we couldnt truly figure out which broth was chicken and which was pork. We werent blown away by the flavor of the broth, but the noodles and chacu were the best parts of our meal.

Good ramen soup without the +30min wait like some other places. Their pork broth has a smoky flavor that makes them stand out from all the miso-tonkotsu ramen joints in the OC. Their chasu pork is a nice thick cut and melts in your mouth. They also have vegetable or chicken based broth which also sets them apart. They have spicy miso paste free of charge while most will charge up to $1.50 for a spoon size. Space is limited so expect a 10-15min wait if you go peak hours. Come for lunch combo deals and happy hours.

A bit hard to find at first, but well worth the search! Tiny little ramen house with a variety of different types. Super tasty and authentic! Plus, they even cater to vegetarians with an awesome kombu & shiitake broth, rather than taking the easy way out and using a generic miso broth. Place is pretty clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. Awesome find!

Soups irate. I grew up in Japan so the bar is a bit high for me. this place will do because i think its better than the other ones around there :x I usually order to go on a cold winter like night (65 degrees in Costa Mesa) but when i dine in the staff are pretty amazing friendly and always smiling I usually order the Saskatoon Black with extra garlic yum!

Great ramen. Prices are lower than most shops but they serve amazing chicken topping. A little too small. Can only serve about 25 people at once. Here on a Monday around opening time and there was a line. Didnt wait too long but didnt expect it to be packed. Still great deals and good food. Make sure to try the ginger lemonade.

Came here on a Saturday and since most ramen joints closes early, this is one of the few that was still open. Small little ramen place kinda cramped actually, food was some what ok. Not sure If I just ordered the wrong item, but Ill probably try it another time . It seems like a lot of local frequent this place out .

We ordered Ramen #1 and #2 which the soup base in my opinion, was only a little more than water + salt(for #1) and water + soy sauce(#2). Pork rice and curry rice for our side dish was very salty, I couldnt finish the curry bowl. The restaurant only has a few tables, and the place is not very clean.

Filling shoyu hearty broth that isnt too salty or oily. Nice size cuts of meat and appropriately chewy noodles. On par with Shin Send Gumi for me. The Sesame Miso is a nice surprise thats a little on the sweet side. Also tried the chasu quesadilla which was a fun indulgence! Spicy but delicious.
