This dive in the wall was once a KFC and that skeleton remains is clear to note as you look for this fine Hong Kong style restaurant. On Redwood Rd in Castro Valley near downtown, this Hong Kong BBQ diner is amazing for its authentic flavor and great prices. The place is full of local Asians from Hayward and Castro valley - that flag is always a positive sign that the food is great and pleases the local small Asian community in the Castro Valley area. I had the BBQ Pork over rice and the Five Spice Chicken over rice - both done very basic and presented simple.. the flavor explodes with that authentic edge. The menu is complete with all the basics.. but come to this Asain spot for the real flavor of old Hong Kong BBQ that you can only find better in Oaklands China town. The prices are great and the portions as plenty - The service is very friendly.. before you sit down at your table you are handed a bowl of soup with the menu. Friendly folks and that amazing feeling from the hanging ducks and sound of the huge chopping knife in the back.. slicing up BBQ Duck and Chickens Its not the best looking place -- but the food continues to bring me back time and time again. Surprising find in this neighborhood. On a Sunday early afternoon, this place was packed. This place is pretty good and reasonably priced. Although one of their noodles plates was too salty (we sent it back and the waitress apologized, didnt give us any dirty looks and had the chef make us a new plate). We also ordered the shrimp and the eggs chow fun which was tasty and had ample shrimp. The oyster sauce gai-lan was plentiful and their chicken, tofu and salty fish clay pot was delicious. Their menu and food are typical of a Chinese type BBQ restaurant. Their ducks and BBQ items look appetizing; something for next time

If youre familiar with the dishes in their menu, then order whatever, Ive yet to have anything not enjoyable from here. If youre less familiar with authentic Chinese food, then order the general zao chicken. Their version is quite different than what you normally see, and one of the best dishes Ive ever eaten.

The 580 East was too much traffic, I exited from Crow Canyon Road, found this Hong Kong style restaurant. Very tasty, fresh, low salt, huge quanty, and low price. I loved the fried fish and season vegetable dishes. Waitresses are attractive too. I definitely come back again. Recommend to all.

We really love this place. If you like REAL chinese this is the place in CV. The BBQ pork, any of the chicken dishes, soups and chow main hit the spot. Great value, friendly staff, good prices 5 stars 6 if it was possible.

Its a good place to eat and its cheap. The bathroom is gross, and the inside does look really old. The food is pretty good, but its a hit or miss. Some days the soup has flavor, some days its very bland.

The house special wonton noodle soup is awesome if your looking for a quick healthy and savory bite to eat! Be careful of some of their sauce dishes though they can be a little salty.

Less American style. More traditional dishes and not as many broccoli beefs. A celiac friend was visiting and they did not put soy sauce in any of her dishes.

Knocking this down one star only because prices have gone up so sharply. Been coming for years and their prices arent competitive anymore. Food still good.

Small place with good food. Very serious about closing time, when they say they close at 9 pm, that means everyone out at 9 pm, including the staff.

A good restaurant for authentic chinese food. Prices are fair and the service is not always up to par but the food is excellent.

Really mediocre food. The best thing was the BBQ duck which was not too fatty and tastes awesome. The rest were not so good.

Its clean, busy, and the staff was courteous. But my wonton soup needed a little more flavor; lots of meat and vegetables.
