Penchant for spontaneously breaking out in song and dance. After a fun day at the MBA, we decided the adults get to indulge as well. We arrived right at 5 without a reservation and already the place was half full and working on one server. Immediately thought we are not going to have a good experience. But, we were quickly seated by the hostess after she moved around some tables and staff descended on the table to set it up. We were seated in minutes of saying "Hi". Someone also came by and asked if we wanted anything to drink and start with... it did not appear that they were running on less staff. We ordered the spaghetti bolognese for the girls to split, a Czech beer for me, glass of wine, and calamari for the table. Our regular server came online and we also ordered the special lamb chops, Istanbul kabob and the lamb shank. Lamb shank - the meat was sliding off the bone. Juicy and tender. Would have loved more sauce to lick off the plate. Yes, it was delicious. The potato gratin was a nice balance of cheese and potato. The special lamb chop was grilled wonderfully. A tasty crust and I could have gnawed on the bones for days. The kids devoured their spaghetti. You know it is good when their faces are in the bowl shoveling noodles into the mouth. Half on their face and in their mouth. I want to be a kid again. We finished with their flourless chocolate cake. This really should be called the blackhole chocolate cake. It was so darkly chocolate and delicious. The kids asked for more and if we were not responsible adults; everyone would have gotten their own. Overall a wonderful meal. Great place to bring the kids after a day of fish shopping at MBA... kept wanting sushi but this place is the definite treat. Oh, between dinner and dessert, the lute came off the wall; a chef of white apron guy came out and sang with dancing all around. Be careful the place spontaneously combusts into song and dance.

Vamos voltar!!!

+ Delicious Mediterranean fare, + super friendly staff, + cozy atmosphere, - long waiting time, super packed After reading all reviews about Dametra Café I couldn’t wait to try the place. I am European and craving for real good Mediterranean food in Northern California. As expected the place was packed and we had to wait for 40 minutes for a table. The best advice is to put down your name first and then do some window-shopping along Ocean Ave. The inside is very cozy and has some typical Mediterranean paintings and décor on the walls. Moreover the owners’ hospitality was great. The staff is incredible friendly and welcoming and I really felt like being in Greece this evening. After being seated we went for the homemade tzaziki and pita, the Greek gyros and Istanbul kebab. The tzaziki was the best I had so far outside Europe, the kebab and gyros were yummy and authentic. Another point is that compared to all other restaurants in Carmel, the Dametra Café is still amongst the lower priced venues. Credit cards accepted! Average entrée: $16.

Some friends recommended this place to us. My wife took me here for dinner on my birthday. The food was amazing and the service was great! Towards the end of the meal, my wife ordered a dessert and she requested the waitress to bring a lit candle on it. What we got instead was the co-owner (Bashar) and his crew with traditional middle-eastern instruments emerging out of the kitchen singing and dancing. Within the next minute they had both of us and the rest of the restaurant on our feet dancing to the rhythm of their melodious tunes. What followed was 10 minutes of music and dance. It was a as if the entire restaurant full of strangers had joined on to celebrate my birthday! What a night to remember. Thanks guys and we will visit you the next time we are in or passing by Carmel. PS: This cracked me up! There was one table that didnt join us in all of this fanfare; the elderly lady at the table was in disbelief. She mentioned once or twice that we were all in cahoots with each other and it was all pre-planned :-).

A truly delightful experience my wife and I had on our honeymoon. We were visiting from Sacramento. It was busy so call to reserve. Its an intimate place for fine cuisine. At the end of the 8 oclock hour, we had been finishing the last of a tasty seafood dish, and the chef had finished all of the orders and all the capacity of about 45 people came to finish their dinners and were enjoying their wine. The grandfather of a man playing a lute had thanked us for coming and wanted to sing us a song. The man worked there but wasnt our server. He asked my wife and I how everything was in a uniquely sincere way. The grandfatherly chef had begun to proudly sing; I remember the Italian words "besame mucho". The culture of the entire meaning of Authentic with a capital A came alive in all of the unsuspecting Sunday night dinner hour guests. We loved the food, exceptional wine selection, and the experience is worth calling ahead. A+

The service was absolutely trash.. Waited about ten minutes until a hostess came to seat us; we were treated as if we didnt exist. I have NO clue where people find the courage to say that this food was good. The pizza is terrible; you may as well get a frozen one from the grocery store. Came on some cold attempt of a crust with a few vegetables and a dash of cheese. The Greek salad was an ABSOLUTE joke.. A few pieces of tomato and cucumber, smothered with dressing on a bed of cheap lettuce, for $13. The waitress didnt refill our drinks one time nor did she come back to our table until we were finished asking if we wanted dessert. Im sure many of you will disregard this review as you are probably too ignorant or just flat out dont care. You may as well take your money to the grocery store and cook a meal (which I can asure will be better than this place)

After a fun day of shopping, visiting the Mission, and walking along the beach, my girlfriend and I headed back to town to Dametra Cafe for an early dinner. We love Greek/Mediterranean food! We were greeted before we even walked in the door. The host shook our hands, introduced himself and welcomed us in. We sat down to a delicious meal and experienced the best service weve had in a long time. We recommend the Dametra Pasta! The restaurant is small, but it made us feel like we were at a friends home eating a home cooked meal. The staff made sure we enjoyed our dining experience. In fact, the host that initially greeted us at the entrance, came to check on us as we were eating. We were surprised and pleased that he had remembered our names. We love this restaurant, and will drive the hour and half to Carmel again to eat at this place. It was that good!
