One of the problems with online reviews like this is that the owners and their friends often put up rave reviews and its hard to tell the fake reviews from the real ones. You can trust me on this one, though. None of the positive reviews youll read about this restaurant are true. The food was truly, spectacularly awful. Flavorless, overcooked, and underpresented. For heavens sake, there was no cardamom in the kheer! Just cream and rice! The food is magnificently overpriced (rice with your meal is extra) -- we ended up paying over $40 for two modest dinners and some plain rice for our toddler. The service was about as bad as it gets. Long wait and surly staff. Get this: when the waitress brought our food, she put the food containers on the table (placing the wrong food by the wrong people) and then . . . she handed me three plates with three napkins and three sets of silverware FOR ME TO SET THE TABLE! And she ran off! "What am I supposed to do with all these plates?" I chuckled to my wife. Listen, folks, I have been all over the world, including some pretty desolate and poor places, and Ive eaten at a million dicy restaurants. Taste Of india ranks up there with the very worst. All the negative reviews here sum up exactly our experience (the reviewer with diarrhea? Yep. Same here. Two hours after eating here, sick as a dog and had diarrhea for the next three days. Dirty bathrooms? Yep, they make the worst gas station bathrooms look like surgical operating theaters.). So if youre driving down the I-5 and stopping off at Buttonwillow, please, please, drive past this little slice of restaurant hell and keep going a few hundred yards to Dennys. And if you dont like Dennys or the truck stop restaurant, buy a couple bags of cashews and a Moon Pie at the Shell station. Anything but Bad Taste of India.

It was a little too overpriced...food was okay, staff was courteous. Again for THE PRICE: for plates, or even drinks (I ordered both salt and mango lassi on my visit because Ive always been curious about the salt flavor; even though the server told me $2.95 for lassi glass after the salt -my mere to go cup of mango lassi was actually $3.95, so theyre not careful at all) you would expect WAY MORE/BETTER THAN that... We saw an Indian couple didnt pay for their meal - rather a heftier meal for 2 even - and was just let that way and that was kind of eyebrow-raising. Due to this I suddenly became guarded unfairly through to finishing my meal, which was not fair and unprofessional (I got suddenly checked on which turned an otherwise relaxed dining experience to an uncomfortable one). And alas, they got over $35 from me. hmm...that definitely didnt add up...well it is JUST EXPENSIVE! Or rather "overpriced" and "over-rated" would be accurate descriptors. They can and should use a lot more improvement if they really want to rebuild their reputation.

Dont be fooled by the modest exterior! Great food inside! I would normally give a 4, but I believe people are underrating this place. Some of the best Indian Ive had outside of London. On food alone, this is very nearly a 5-star place. I was especially excited to discover that unlike practically every other Indian restaurant Ive been to, they didnt see the white boy coming and take the spice out of the food. They gave me "medium spicy" curry, which was hotter than most restaurants "we normally dont make it that hot at all, sir, but we can give you some extra pepper flakes on the side" spicy. It struck me as very authentic. The waiter didnt have fabulous English, and the interior wasnt exactly stunning, but I dont care--I went for the food, and got phenomenal Indian curry. Ill make a point of returning every time I pass through that little town.

Terrible!! This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to! We ordered a medim spicy malai kofta and got a terribly spicy one, on complaining, they took it away and came back with a new one which had frozen kofta! On complaining again, the lady behaved in an extremely rude fashion and blamed us instead since we asked it to be served quickly. She even said that you seem to be eating out for the first time and do not know the difference between medium and spicy and are complaining a lot. I didnt want to come down to her level and simply paid up and left. They still charged me full price and the food is not worth it at all In conclusion, they treat thier customers terribly and the food is horrible. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

My wife and I had the Biryani vege wrap which was great. I enjoyed it so much I wish I had ordered a 2nd one for myself even though the 1st one filled me up completely. I dont know about all the negative comments here ( could be other restaurant competitors) because I did not use the restroom nor see the kitchen but a did see an East Indian family chowing down here like there was no tomorrow. Coming from The city where you have quality choices this place was like an oasis in the desert even though the decor is a little cheeky. We stopped here again on the way back home from Monterey but it was closed. We settled for Carls Jr. because it was the only choice on Thanksgiving evening and what a disappointment.

Ive been driving by this place for years as a truck driver and decided while I was on vacation to give it a try. The food was excellent, having gotten a lamb curry dish and some garlic naan. The medium level of spice was right near my limit, which is what Im used to from Indian and other SE Asian fare. As a lover of spicy food, I find it nice that there are places where even I dare not try their highest heat. Staff was friendly and able to answer all of my questions without having to go ask the cook or anything. Though not my thing, I saw they had a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. Its a nice oasis of quality food for this stretch of I-5 that is mostly populated with fast food joints.

Four vegetarians/vegans stopped for lunch. First of all the water was disgusting and the glass had food particles on the side. *On all four glasses* None of us were drinking our water. Our server noticed and offered us bottled water, then took away our glasses. Later we would find out we were charged $1.49 for each bottle of water. On top of that the food was not good enough to be $11-$12. Maybe this is the norm in the area but its the worst Indian restaurant Ive ever been to personally, and Im obsessed with Indian food. Never going to a restaurant without reading the reviews first. Oh and the food doesnt come with rice. Bummer.

I agree it looks kind of sketchy and rundown, and I agree the food wasnt all that amazing. Still, the whole drive down the 5 from LA to the bay area, its the only food I saw advertising from the freeway that wasnt a megachain, so you have to give them props for that. And Im going to completely ignore anything I may have heard about their sanitation just now, in exactly the same way that I ignore anything I may have heard about the sanitation of, say, Burger King (is it really any better?), and just say, when I stopped there, the wrap wasnt terrible. Amazing? No. But it beats Burger King.
